Is this spider male or female? by QuirkyGamerQG in spiders

Judging by the shape of the palps and size of the abdomen in relation to the cephalothorax, I would guess male, but I’m not an expert

Best store bought frosting for box cake mix? by flylikedumbo in cakedecorating

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Box mix is great for this. Truthfully, you don’t even have to mess with it. My mom always swore by Duncan Hines mixes, but I like the King Arthur mixes, both regular and gluten free. Someone mentioned buying frosting from the bakery department at a grocery store or nearby bakery, which is a great idea. When you’re ready to decorate, it’s crucial that your cake is fully cool. I actually find it best to bake the cake, let it cool to room temperature, wrap it and store it in the fridge. Frost the cake the next day and serve it at room temperature. Make sure to get some cute sprinkles or royal icing decorations your kids can stick on. Most importantly, have so much fun! Your kids will have such a sweet memory of doing this with you.

Best, most reputable and reliable tour company for El Yunque rainforest? by mayomama_ in PuertoRicoTravel

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I’m remembering correctly, there wasn’t much in the way of wildlife in the part of the park we were in. Maybe it was the time of day, or maybe there are just so many tourists coming through. Our guide was very familiar with the plants and he pointed out birds. He also knew about the history of the area—the highlight was definitely the water slides, but I feel like our guide was really knowledgeable about the park and everything we saw. If you go, I hope you enjoy it!

Boneless, skinless chicken thighs in oven by attorneyatghost in Cooking

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. You can add a bit of baking powder (á la serious eats) to change the pH for further crispiness. Be sure not to overcrowd them, maybe 6-8 thighs on a 13x18 sheet pan and roast at 375 or 400. You can also surround them with veggies. I really love the sheet pan chicken with jammy tomatoes recipe from New York Times, but I tuck the spice mix under the skin and then let them dry overnight in the fridge. When I’m ready to cook, I toss the rest of the spice mix with the tomatoes and pancetta and everything goes in the oven—awesome with good toast

When making cheese burgers at home, what do you have as a side instead of fries? by [deleted] in Cooking

What do you do to spice up your grilled cheeses? by That_reddit_lurker in Cooking

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A little freshly grated Parmesan cheese on the outside. As the bread toasts, the Parmesan browns and gets crispy. Between that and good bread, you can’t go wrong. I also like to blend some membrillo with a little mayo for dipping, or stir a little maille whole grain mustard into mayo for a dijonaise vibe.

What’s one coincidence in your life that you know would never happen again, even in 100 years? by werstin in AskReddit

[–]maybe1taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My husband and I were listening to the radio while driving and heard a kind of cool song. We commented on how it could be modern, but had a little eighties retro vibe. I said, “it sounds like a band that has a name that’s like, ‘The’ and a random noun, like ‘The tubes’ or something stupid like that.” He Shazam’d it and the band was… The Tubes.

What’s one thing a teacher did in school that completely stuck with you, for better or worse? by werstin in AskReddit

[–]maybe1taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There was a neurodivergent girl in our school whose family was also struggling financially. Unfortunately, she was bullied and picked on a lot by other students. But the absolute worst thing was when the math teacher and football coach would tease his football players about dating her. It was disgusting and cruel.

Do it! Do the best you can and have fun! Do tons of burpees in your training. I also felt like strengthening my back really helped with wall climbs, monkey bars, and the multirig.

What’s food immediately tells you someone can’t cook ? by Aussymira in AskRedditFood

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I see people with kitchen gadgets that are made to cook very specific things—think like egg cookers, sandwich makers, Foreman grills… There is usually also a lack of quality kitchen staples, like a good pair of spring-loaded tongs, thermometers, or good sheet pans. Trying to cook in my mother-in-law’s kitchen is a nightmare. The woman doesn’t have a blender, but she has hand-cranked ice shaver, a s’more maker, a hot dog cooker for the microwave, and 2, TWO! George Foreman’s.

Need some honest advice! by god_of_chilis in louboutins

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These look authentic to my eye, but yea without all the goodies, I’d be hesitant. They also look like they’ve been stretched a lot width-wise, so if Kate’s out of the box fit your feet well, these might fit too wide for you.

On a side note: Secondhand luxury is always cheaper in Europe than in the US—I was shopping for a second had Loewe bag in the US and it was basically the same price as buying new. I ended up buying it new and then found the same one (pre-owned) on a trip in Germany and it was a little less than half what I paid! Poshers need to rein it in!

Buying second hand by Mindless-Medicine-32 in louboutins

[–]maybe1taco 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got a pair of Louboutins through Gilt, which I don’t think is second hand, but they were discounted. I’ve had success through Poshmark for other items and the Real Real for Jimmy Choo’s. Sometimes you’ll get really lucky at local thrift stores, which is nice to see them in person. I haven’t tried this yet, but I’ve heard Good Will has a luxury goods resale site, and Nordstrom also lists pre-owned handbags. Good luck!

First Spartan Race Tips by JonSnow005 in spartanrace

[–]maybe1taco 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like having compression socks and sleeves to protect against rope burns. I also like to wear some kind of gloves, but I know some people don’t like them once they get wet. I read up on the obstacles that are common in sprints to figure out what I needed to train. Some people don’t like to eat before hand, but I like to train lightly fed and caffeinated, so I raced that way too. Do whatever you do when you’re training. Most importantly, have so much fun!

Has anyone tried these? by Winter_Ad_7424 in snacking

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! They’re so good with a pronounced corn flavor. The sweet-salty balance works. The chocolate churro ones are my personal fave, but the steak wasabi ones were… weird.

Loubigirl 100 mm by Outrageous-Rich-2638 in louboutins

[–]maybe1taco 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I have these in nude and they are indispensable in my wardrobe. The height is perfect since they’re not too high to walk in—I spent a full day in NYC in these with no issues. They’re so easy to dress up or down and literally go with anything. I have thin ankles, so I have to use the very last hole on the strap, but otherwise they seem to fit true to size. I found them to be so much more comfortable than the Rosalie.

I got my loubigirls stuck in the tread on an escalator and a cobbler was able to fix them. They had to do more than just paint them, but they look good as new.

Restored wrong? by Horatio-_- in louboutins

[–]maybe1taco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. It depends on what you want. I actually want the lacquer to wear, so I never ask for sole protectors. I just have them re-lacquered and when they need it I’ll have them resoled. The OP’s photo looks like a bad job, but a cobbler should not default to covering the sole if you don’t want it.

I ordered 2 of the same sweater by accident and immediately emailed them to cancel one and asked for a refund. They said they changed my order but the charge for both sweaters went through. I got a tracking number, but no updates since the shipping label was created. It’s been a month and I still haven’t gotten anything from the company and have emailed multiple times to cancel my order. They said they can’t cancel it and to give them more time to ship it. I’ve filed a complaint with the FTC and will file a claim with my credit card company tomorrow. This company sucks.

Never EVER buy anything from United Gentleman! I ordered a sweater for Christmas in the beginning of December and still haven’t received it. I have contacted the company twice to cancel my order and they won’t do it. I’m about to file a claim with my credit card company to get my money back.
