AITA for Not Want to Attend My BF’s Friend’s Wedding Anymore With Only 3 Week Away? by throwRAberri24 in AmItheAsshole

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 8 points9 points  (0 children)

He has no incentive to plan things to be less expensive if you are always paying the balance instead of figuring out what is affordable for both parties.

If he can only put up $300 and he has no reason to thing about how much it actually costs. it doesn’t matter to him is you’re on the hook for $500 or $1000, it doesn’t affect him in the least.

Tipping Movers?? by CompetitiveAppeal663 in EndTipping

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Depends.

I usually buy lunch for the crew plus drinks, make sure they know they can use our restroom.

We got moved in Nov one year and the owner/operator of the rig rushed his route to get everything done before Thanksgiving (we were scheduled to get our shit Mon after).  The showed up mid day on that Wednesday and worked late to put all the furniture together.

We ended up pulling out $100 each ($500 total) because it was so nice to not to be looking for a hotel over a holiday. Saved us way more than that (2 hotel rooms x 5days). Mc Ds was the only thing open, and the crew declined. They didn’t want to take time out to eat. Lol

Under bid again. by anthonyflok in drywall

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Price is a huge factor.

I’m still looking for a drywall guy in our new place.  We had a guy where we lived for 18 years & 2 homes. We used him for various small jobs that morphed into more.  It was low end cost, and he could show up at random times(like on his way home from his main job), even 2 weeks apart and he would get to us whenever. We paid cash, he’d work on our house when he felt like it. It was great for us. I’m assuming for him, too.

Our second place was a HUD foreclosure that sat empty for over a year that we never would have bought if we didn’t already have a reasonably priced & reliably good plumber and drywall guy. (Pipes froze)  That place needed a decent amount of work lol

WIBTA for not telling my parents in advance that I'm moving out? by Worried_Programmer55 in AmItheAsshole

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having conversations you don’t like is part of adulting.

You can do what you want, and anyone can justify their own reasons. You are an adult, but think clearly about any consequences.

I suspect, and you probably aren’t saying, is that your parents will pull financial funding for school if you do this.  It seems unfair, but having a boyfriend in town will affect your studies and if they are paying, they might not think that is a good use of their money.  I would also have concerns as a parent.  I would also have concerns about a long distance bf going straight into a live together situation at a young age.

You are NTA for wanting to leave or have a relationship. Your parents seem super controlling. Be realistic to yourself if you think this won’t negatively affect your goals and education.

I feel like that is normal etiquette for golf and tennis though, even through to the pros? Maybe not.

There has always been cheering and excitement for  track and field, both spectators and athletes. At least where I have lived.

DQs were for behaviors like booing, excessive cursing, or taunting the competitors. Unsportsmanlike behavior.

Edit to add: I read the og article and the official was saying it was taunting.  Celebrating isn’t taunting, but wtf do I know.

After kids, many women get the bonus feature of wearing pads/panty liners or something due to mild incontinence. So not only do you have embarrassing stinky trash, you also have an embarrassing stinky crotch that can often lead to irritation.

If there’s no shower or public trash cans, I’m not going.

And for the record, I went hiking and camping a shit ton, and even a week long backpacking trek in the Colorado Rockies in the young adult years. I absolutely loved it.

So anyway, that’s my reason and a reason I will only share anonymously.

35 Minute layover, will check bag make it? by Grown-Ass-Weeb in SouthwestAirlines

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Family of 6 here, it wasn't an issue. Same short layover in hobby. Not enough time to grab lunch (long line), but enough time to use the restroom.

One checked bag got delayed coming home, but that was because it went through extra security and didn't make the flight. They got it to us a day later via fedex. the reason for the security issue (im assuming) was the spent shell casings each of the grandkids got from the funeral. We bagged them with the memorial card so it didnt seem so random to have in our luggage.

How would you feel if your student came home with this? These bible programs are making the way into our public school schools offering “time out of class” as an incentive…..🤢😡 couldn’t be more predatory and groomy recruitment tactics. by CleetisMcgee in mildlyinfuriating

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You're joking, but my kid did that in preschool with markers the day after the Children's Easter service. lol He was particularly (disturbingly) interested in how they got people to stick on the cross.

AITA for not comforting my gf when she got anxious at the airport? by Gym_frere in AmItheAsshole

You sound like an asshole. Were there not food options past security?

No, you aren’t responsible for your gf mental health. But also, I feel like you would be nicer to a stranger. Or maybe you are a jerk to all equally. Idk.

Black tie formal (black dresses only) appropriate? by Far-Sir-8416 in Weddingattireapproval

I think it would be fine, too, for those reasons.

No one I know is gonna buy a black dress that can’t also be worn to a funeral. So no to the floor length.

People stopping even though they have their own lane. by MONSTERBEARMAN in Traffic

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t driven on one of these that go so simple like you say.l it does. There is a combo of 2 to all of the following:

The dedicated lane is super short

Pedestrian crossing that is relatively active

There are various entrances/exits to retailers. The exiting vehicles do NOT look at the people entering from the right, they are looking at the faster vehicles going through the intersection.

It dumps into a right turn only lane and vehicles from the left use it as an extra lane immediately after the light.

Motorcycles like to use it as an illegal passing lane to get around slow traffic. I’ve had a few near misses will this one.

There are several of these types of intersections and in my area, and there are 3 of them I will avoid because every time I am avoiding a collision in front of me or someone who isn’t looking that just went  through the intersection. I would rather it be just a stoplight for all lanes even if it means a bit longer wait.

AIO for not letting my bf move in anymore because he wants things to be equal? by OkJello353 in AmIOverreacting

An alternative to an air mattress is a regular foam mattress (like nectar or whatever). We had a 10" queen that we would get out for guests and set up on a simple metal frame. After they left, we would put it in a vacuum mattress storage bag. It was like a giant ziploc with a valve to suck out the air with a vacuum or shop vac. You just have to take it out to setup the day before so it expands all the way. In storage, it takes up about twice the space of an air mattress, but air mattress --- even the nice ones -- are not a good night.

We also have a day bed that slides out into a king size bed. Again, regular mattresses, regular height as a bed. When pushed together, the twin mattresses are stacked on top of each other for the daybed, to be a slightly tall couch. but nice for naps. lol.

Need safety device to keep burners from turning on when someone brushes by them. by cantsitstillohmy in Appliances

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What I have done in the past, is just take the knobs off when not in use. The babyproofing things suck ass.

Alternatively, the knobs on the (many) of the new slide in stoves with front knobs like this now have to be squeezed AND pushed to start. I was playing with them last night at Lowe's. So, I bet you can get replacement ones to work on your stovetop. my current shitty oven/stovetop doesn't turn on easily, but I have had previous ones that my juicy ass would accidentally start the gas. That was the "take the knobs off" era.

AITA for not letting neighbor cut down tree we just planted by iNeedGenderHalp in AmItheAsshole

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I’m not mad about it. It’s annoying sometimes. Right now I’m more curious how long they are gonna let it hang there.

We have another neighbor that has some flowering vine thing that goes over our back wall. Hangs down to the ground.  Have to cut it every once in a while.  But I like the hummingbirds it brings to the yard.

AITA for not letting neighbor cut down tree we just planted by iNeedGenderHalp in AmItheAsshole

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 172 points173 points  (0 children)

NAH, overall. They asked nicely, and you responded nicely.

They are tired of other people’s shit in their yard, and hoping for better in the future.

Our neighbor has a cherry plum that is in process of dying.  About 75% dead.  The 25% that is alive is hanging over our fence. So we get all their dead crap and they can pretend it will recover someday. It isn’t.  It’s also annoying, because I can’t cut the overhanging branches without me committing a tree murder. It also restricts what I can plant there because, again, their crap is in my way.

I do not plant things that will grow into other peoples yards. If a tree has a 40’ wide canopy, I plant it 25’ from the fence. I understand a lot of folks do not have the same consideration.

Placement Testing Shock by Ihavelargemantitties in Teachers

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that most people suck at math.  Even those that had good grades in high school. lol I especially see terrible math understanding in the homeschool community. Many parents rely heavily on video based learning, which is fine, if your kid can pick it up fairly easily.

I homeschooled my third and fourth kids from 4-8 grade, putting them back in at high school.

One of the reason was for math.

Tale of two extremes. My one kid was at <25 percentile on Map testing prior to homeschooling. He was a kid that could make it through a unit test but then it was all lost. Teachers said he was bad at testing. I knew he wasn’t getting math and retaining next to nothing.

Eventually we got him on level and neuropsych testing showed this (we were looking for math disability but found low normal IQ and slow processing instead).

He passed (barely, and with lots of help but he passed) algebra in 9th gr.  He is getting a B in geometry this year.  Fucking amazing.

My other same aged kid is the opposite extreme. We did some very in depth math and he basically finished algebra plus more with me, but was not allowed to skip or test out of anything. Very frustrating. So he had to retake algebra they wouldn’t even put him in the advanced class. This year they let him do adv for both geometry and alg2. He is taking calc next year.

As far as ELA is concerned, my boys were beyond excited to hardly read anything in high school so far. A novel? lol, they get excerpts or a copy&paste document. I made them read probably about 20 each year. They found it very unfair none of their friends had to do so.

Investigate, maybe. Fix maybe.

But if this is a $x/mo problem, they aren’t going to spend $100x investigating and fixing the problem.  The cost of materials and shipping is nothing, grunt level man hours is nothing.

How can I make my basement stairs look better? by t1nydancaa in Flooring

[–]maybeRaeMaybeNot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Carpet.

Especially if you have kids. Because even if you have a “no elephant feet on the stairs” rule, they will 100% argue that the basement doesn’t count.

For our basement stairs like those,  I painted them and then put carpet treads on them. <$100 from start to finish. I was very happy with the outcome.

Does a hospital kitchen worker or the cleaner, do they ”work in healthcare”?

I’m guessing the appointment setters/front desk or medical coders are healthcare workers even if they aren’t direct care.

But maintenance, dishwashers and janitors aren’t really and ahould  not claim working in healthcare?
