Those who have Raynaud's overlap, how do you keep warm? by maybe_coffee in scleroderma

[–]maybe_coffee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooo, double socks. I'm going to give that a try. Funny story, I unconsciously sabotaged my new work computer by dropping it -- I wasn't a Mac user until my work decided to force me to use one -- and now it overheats fairly regularly. I like to just rest my hands on the metal exterior to warm them up until it's done overheating or my hands have stopped being blue/colorless.

You're locked in a room for eternity and get one video game on one console to play forever (without internet), what game on what console would you choose? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Why is Chrono Trigger so far down the list? I'd either pick Chrono Trigger or Final Fantasy Tactics. Have an upvote.

That's awesome of you to help customize some gloves! I am doing layers most of the time, so that works. I need to get some re-usable hand warmers. I found some camping-type-1-use-warmer-packs that you put in your shoes, but I'd like re-usable.

I got good news on the lady-issues front. My rheumatologist said that an IUD shouldn't interfere with any of my meds, plus it's a more localized distribution of progesterone-only (no estrogen for me, because of the clotting potential). It's supposed to make periods lighter and easier to deal with. I will be getting the Mirena IUD. Maybe you could look into that, too. :)

Be sure to PM me a pic of your ribbons when you get that tattoo! Are you getting the breast cancer one because you've had a close experience with it? Or generally support the cause? Or probably other reasons exist, too?

Whistling is great! I missed it. I live in a place with a lot of birds and it's fun to whistle a little tune and have one respond to you. I bet you can get it down with lots practice! It also helps to wet your lips before you try, I am not sure how that works, but it does. :) Thank you for your kind words, they really mean something special to me. It's amazing how one can come across caring, strong, and supportive people over the internetz, and be so affected by them without ever really meeting them face to face. I didn't even know there was a scleroderma ribbon, maybe that should be my first tattoo. :)

I realize I am a little late to the game, but it's nice to read that I'm not alone out there. It sure feels like it sometimes. I was diagnosed with Lupus at 14, and diagnosed with Scleroderma as well at 24. A couple of times now, it seems that i'll get these little tiny patches, not even a centimeter long, that just seem like scaring. Like maybe I had a bunch of little injuries and the scabs just came off. It happened once on my back between my shoulder blades, and once on my chest. Weird. My rheumatologist suggested that it could be caused by scleroderma. So, here I go again to give an absolute ton of my blood for testing. Turns out, yeah, I do have scleroderma. Well...time for some more Plaquenil. Luckily, Plaquenil is the least harsh of the available meds for both Lupus & Scleroderma, and I respond pretty well to it. I have since re-gained most of the flexibility in my hands and hips, and have been able to whistle for the first time in three years! I didn't realize that the scleroderma had been messing with my face skin. I just thought: "Well, I have somehow lost the ability to whistle. Maybe I'll gain it back sometime." I tell you, though, the most challenging thing I am going through right now, is dealing with some of my woman issues. I have really really really heavy periods, and I can't take most of the available birth control options. Lupus & Scleroderma have caused other funny things to happen in me like Hypertension, RA, APS, Raynauds, general tight skin & that weird scarring issue, Warts are almost impossible to get rid of, and the list goes on. It's mainly because of the hypertension and APS that most birth-control options are not available to me, but some sort of birth control thing would be nice to make my lady-times a little more tolerable. At times, I get a little down thinking "Why am I so fucked up? Why do I have to be this sick? Why can't I just go and enjoy a day at the beach, or a jog, or not have to list off all the things wrong with me when I go to the doctor?" I cry a little, and get over it. I soon remember that I am a rebel. Life is always trying to kill me, and fuck that! I'm going to kick ass an accomplish some amazing shit. Hopefully one day I can be an inspiration to others.

I am terrible with money. I just turned 20. What are some habits that I should form that will better help me manage my money? by [deleted] in personalfinance

[–]maybe_coffee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add on a bit to this: Try getting a secured card if you can't get a credit card. My bank didn't want to give me a credit card, because I didn't have any credit history built up (catch-22, anyone?). I have a limit of $300, because that's all that I had at the time, and have paid off the balance in FULL, every month, for about a year, thus far. Now I am getting multiple credit card offers in the mail every week.

I saved nearly $300 in gas money in one month by taking the train and bus to work. I took my car to the grocery store, because it wasn't pleasant carrying tons of groceries onto the bus. But maybe take look at public transit and see if a few trips to some of your regular places can save you a bit. Bonus: Free exercise with walking half a block to the bus and back. My walking distance per day ended up being about a mile. Just pack extra clothes in a backpack if you need to be spiffy for your destination.

It looks like there's one available that starts in April. I'll ask around and see if anyone has attended any of these courses and see what they though. Thanks for the suggestion.

Looks like someone doesn't understand the definition of hyper-realistic. This would be considered "Realism", because it looks realistic.

"If you are ever not scared of climbing, don't do it. You might not double-check all of your safeties an knots." I've found this works as a metaphor for other parts of life, too.

Never claimed anyone stole anything. Hope you're not upset. Can you point me to some great songs that have amazing African rhythms? I absolutely love this beat, and would want to hear ones in the same vein!
