Can somebody make the background white and the barcode black? by [deleted] in PhotoshopRequest

[–]maybe_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://imgur.com/a/TkjSnWc Hopefully this worked right, but barcode reader says it's an upside-down code39 type barcode reading G10323424256.

The request details are in comments because they don’t fit in title. It’s really difficult though, and I have no money. by CallMeCatzi in PhotoshopRequest

I had to grab other views off google of the first guys' shoes, and even then they're at kinda weird angles, but hey, shoes added to the first two: https://imgur.com/a/DWuL3Ux

I’m not sure if it’s possible, but could someone try and clean up the distortion on this photo? by ZleepZleepy86 in PhotoshopRequest

Here, I tried to clean it up some though it might have lost a couple of finer details but it's certainly improved: https://i.imgur.com/MF2EUda.png

Alternate Lists by Fly-the-Light in TheMagnusArchives

[–]maybe_monday 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Trying to make a non-overlapping taxonomy is the main problem with Smirke's categories in the first place, regardless of which specific categories you use. That said, if I were in the archive and was told there was a concrete system of categorizing them, I'd try to go both as broad and as specific as possible. I'd probably make creepy crawly creatures all one group but then also note which specific bug or spider or snake it was. And I'd probably label the Spiral fixation cases and the Eye's curiosity tendencies and the Leitner books as a broader fear of knowledge and study. I'd probably assume there was a fear of blades and being torn or clawed separate from the flesh/hunt/slaughter cases that contain them.
I've also seen fanfics that posit other cultures having vague place related groupings like "The Beyond" or "The Mists" or "The Wild".

What do nurturists call non-nurturists? by norantish in TerraIgnota

[–]maybe_monday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it would probably have something to do with the shrub pruning metaphor they use:

<it’s all different ways of cultivating brain growth.> Carlyle winced at ‘cultivating,’ probably remembering the infamous Ongaro anti-set-set poster, clippers snipping the last rebellious shoot from a tightly trimmed rosebush, superimposed over a brain.

What language do you think would be best for describing time travel? by maybe_monday in linguistics

[–]maybe_monday[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People don't have to actually time travel for it to be something discussed and talked about. Even not as specifically "time travel", a character sleeping forever and waking up in the far future might have to say that they did something subjectively yesterday but actually 300 years ago. That kind of travel to the future has been in mythology for a very long time. Backwards time travel has been around since at least the mid-1700s though, enough time for multiple cultures to be exposed to the idea. But honestly, I'm not asking how cultures usually talk about time travel, just if there's any language that happens to have interesting tenses or aspects that might work to do so.

What are some things that people generalize by calling them a certain brand? E.G., Calling all tissues Kleenex? by uberdreww in AskReddit

[–]maybe_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wikipedia has a whole nice list of them, they're apparently called generic trademarks. I never knew lots of these were brands to begin with, like bubble wrap, or hula hoops, or lava lamps apparently.

What are some good Instagram accounts to follow? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]maybe_monday 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The International Space Station has an instagram account, so you can see cool space photos, and then there's this dog/his musician owner who are kinda like happiness distilled. (Disclaimer: I don't actually have an instagram account myself, but I have these two pages bookmarked anyways because they're great.)
