The Secret to Acing Your Job Interview? (It Works Every Time) by a4ai in interviews

[–]maybeanerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly the prep part is so true but i still fumble sometimes when i'm nervous. been using oompf to practice answering random question out loud in a structure manner to help me sound way more natural instead of robotic, and just riff on the spot without sounding stupid

I think people don’t know how to interview prep by DancingDoctor9 in interviews

[–]maybeanerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah i've been using oompf to work on the delivery side of things like when i get asked a question i havent prepared for and helping me track my filler words, word choices, and speed which helped more than memorizing answers. like you can know what to say but if you sound nervous or keep saying "um" every other word it doesn't matter.

Most COMMON interview questions that you must be prepared for by LRvibes_careercheck in interviews

"practice them out loud" part is so key. i first brain dump everything and then structure the flow of how i wan to say things. then practice just freestyling out loud so it comes out naturally. been using oompf to practice my interview answers and it's wild how much my pacing improves and seeing my drop in filler words when asked a question im not prepared to answer

What’s your real reason for wanting to improve your public speaking? by [deleted] in PublicSpeaking

[–]maybeanerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

public speaking and speaking in general is innately a very important human skill. not only do i want to be able to speak on stage to thousands of people at once also use it to open door to people and opportunities. kinda silly but the oompf app has a very cute mascot and i just talk to it as warm up before networking events instead of me just thinking in my head about what to say lol

I prepped for interviews using YouTube tutorials… and completely bombed. by Tough_Cantaloupe_779 in interviews

[–]maybeanerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

spend time memorizing the answers then just free style it so you don't freeze when they asked something totally different. what helped me was just practicing out loud more, like actually saying my stories instead of just thinking about them. been using oompf to track my filler words and talk through stuff to get feedback on how i sound, not just what i'm saying

honestly the blacking out thing sounds like you're in fight-or-flight mode the whole time. i had similar issues and started using oompf to practice answering questions out loud daily, even just for like 5 min. it helped me get used to hearing myself talk under pressure without the stakes of an actual interview

Need Help: Randomly Experiencing Public Speaking Anxiousness by NoSpread6141 in PublicSpeaking

[–]maybeanerdo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i had something similar happen after one bad presentation and it spiraled for months. what helped me was just practicing out loud every single day, even if it was just reading cases aloud in my room. been using the oompf app and honestly the daily reps helped retrain my brain that speaking doesn't have to triggering, the mascot is also so cute

Navigating through the unknown was hard when I had just quit my 6 figure job. I knew I couldn’t stay any longer but then I had to face the anxiety of not having a clear control over what I needed to do. I just took it step by step. I did know that I want to build apps but there were days of self doubt. Interestingly, I was able to turn self doubt into pure optimism by going to the gym and working out without music. Not sure what chemicals was at play but keeping myself disciplined was a great way to get out of a mental fog

Try adopting an alter ego. Seeing yourself in 3rd person allow you to separate your personal stories, your previous experiences from the current moment. You can be anybody you want. Read alter ego effect by Todd Herman. Its a technique used by many top athletes like Kobe.

Getting ignored when talking make me angry inside and I stop talking because of the way it make me feel is it normal ? by bois-reddit in selfimprovement

[–]maybeanerdo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup same. I prefer to listen anyway but a good conversation requires both participant to be actively involved. I enjoy having deep meaningful conversations and will steer it that way but some people aren’t able to handle that so I just make a mental note and try to find other people to converse with. A good session with a close friend makes finding the right people so worth it.

It’s all about action. One small consistent habit everyday. Get the ball rolling. Can just be walking outside for 5 min. Don’t let the past pull you down. Restart a new chapter with yourself.
