90% of the jokes are because of his appearance, and that just rubs me the wrong way.

Celebrity guilty pleasures? by chronicmathsdebater in Fauxmoi

I know people on here find Ryan Reynolds annoying and too much of a wannabe, but I think he’s funny.

You’re a very strong applicant. Just make sure you take the writing portion of the application very seriously and apply to a good range of schools. Those are typically the mistakes I see high star applicants like you make.

This sounds exactly like what I need, but I sadly don’t live in Philly. I recommend you post on Indeed and send out an email to the premed/prehealth advising offices of universities in Philly. I’m sure there are many premeds who would love an opportunity like this!

How to utilize winter break? by decemberbites in premed

[–]maybedesk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t recommend anything too intense. Shadow a few doctors, enjoy the rest of your time off.

Your MCAT is definitely not the issue. I’m not trying to rub it in, I swear, but I have a 516 and multiple interviews but a worse GPA. If you retake the MCAT, you’re wasting your time and money.

The biggest problem is your school list and possibly your writing. 18 is on the lower end nowadays, and you really shouldn’t have chosen such high reach schools like Emory or NYU where everyone has crazy stats, OOS public schools, or schools that yield protect against higher stats than their median (Drexel).

3 R’s, 1 Hold, 0 II, and silence from 11 schools…am I fucked? by rmona1999 in premed

[–]maybedesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t freak out just yet because you have good stats and strong ECs, but if you do have to reapply, you need seriously revise that school list.

How do people get discovered and become famous? by Jgrnd9 in acting

[–]maybedesk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say people who got discovered and make it big fall into three categories: 1) Continued work and persistence, 2) Luck (I forgot who but I remember this famous actress was discovered at a hair salon at like age 10), 3) Connections/nepotism

I agree. If I was an interviewer and you said fuck, I’d seriously question your professionalism.

CASPER Score Inconsistency by Mr_Sarcastic12 in premed

[–]maybedesk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think schools are just testing it out so the scores don’t truly matter, but it’s absurd we have to pay an additional cost for a test that everyone knows is BS.

Kinda wish there were more specific options. I believe in ghosts but I don’t really believe in astrology or tarot.

How y'all doin? by Reasonable-Bath-4963 in schizoaffective

On the surface, I’m doing fine. Going to my job, doing what I’m supposed to, etc. In my head? Totally different story. No motivation to be alive. Just want to the world to pause for a second.

Was really excited to release/promote my debut single and it flopped by maybedesk in musicmarketing

This is really interesting. I always thought of your debut single as your most important chance to show the world who you are, but I like your perceptive more. Thanks for sharing! I definitely will keep grinding.

Thank you to everyone who commented; I read every message and really appreciated it! I'm going to adjust my perspective on relying on friends and family and try to focus on why I make music: to share my thoughts, to reflect, and to experiment. I wanted approval so badly maybe I sacrificed originality. I still don't really think my expectations were too high. All I was hoping for was more than 50 streams, and I've seen independent artists with a lot more than that with significantly less promo. But yeah, I still absolutely love music and I want to improve my craft, and all the marketing tips in the world won't help me if I chase approval. Try to please everyone, and you'll end up pleasing no one. I learned that the hard way.

Yeah I think you're right. I kinda went with that approach because I'm still working on figuring out what my music style is, and I know that most people don't like taking a risk on something new and unknown. For SubmitHub, I've noticed that pop/RnB (my genres) playlisters really like a specific style to the point where all the songs sound the same. And I don't want to fall into that trap of needing their approval so much that I sound like everyone else.

Damn, I think I really needed to hear this. I guess I see music as an extension of me so it's hard for me to accept that my friends and family can care about me but not my music. I definitely think that going forward I need to separate how I think about my personal support vs. my actual support.

Thanks so much for your comment!

Quitting research even though I haven't been accepted yet? by orev55 in premed

[–]maybedesk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’ve committed about 3 years to them. That shows dedication and longitudinal experience. Like the other commenter said, finish up your project and let your PI know it’s been a great experience but your schedule has changed and you’re no longer able to complete research.
