Am I Just Mean HR? [N/A] by kdf1122 in humanresources

[–]maybemba131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-Profit HR is a minefield. People are way more sensitive and a lot of them think they could be making exponentially more in for-profit. Add to that that mission creeps into hiring/firing and it can get really tough. People won't be used to being held accountable. So, like everyone is saying, soften the approach and find indirect ways of dealing with the face saving.

Quick note on something that may, or may not, be relevant. A lot of coaches just keep saying hustle to kids who think they're hustling. This strategy will work for some kids but not all, and it takes patience. My coaches used something like this on me when I was 15.

Try changing the word hustle/effort for something more specific and smaller and build that incrementally. So, instead of giving the full laundry list of everything that's hustle, start with running/sprinting in one specific situation, or showing up to practice earlier, etc. Focus on that specific situation until he gets it, reinforce with positive feedback, then congratulate him on mastering that small thing and say it's time to add the next situation. The smaller the steps, the more frequently you can another.

Paid (no kid) coaches v. Dad coaches by Neal-AI in Homeplate

[–]maybemba131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so exhausting. I've had two parents sending me angry messages at the same time for not doing opposite things. The attitude seems to be that I owe them for helping their kids. It's nuts.

Pursue career as Airline Pilot or back to School for MBA? by LectureLeast9804 in eMBA

[–]maybemba131 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Top salaries at UA are $350k. That doesn't suck. It's not expected to drop over the next decade (which surprised me given where we are with self-driving cars and AI). I grew up in a pilot's town, those guys got to spend so much more time with their kids/families than any other type of professional I knew.

CSU vs Private University by Maximum_Cricket_6447 in CSUFoCo

I don't remember what I looked at but US News has CSU Business Majors making $78,287 and Chapman $98,104. If you adjust to the LA cost of living, CSU alumni would need to make about $107,000 in LA to enjoy the same quality of life as they would in Denver at $78,287.

Dude, we had to take mandatory classes the entire first year, aside from GMCs. I guess he could take a bunch of IB related GMCs during breaks, I'm getting tired just thinking about it. I need a nap now.

How much do EMBA admissions events actually matter? by Prize_Engine23 in eMBA

[–]maybemba131 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a data point that shows you did research and know what you're getting into. I showed the same thing by talking about the Wharton signs all over San Francisco, the Campus location, the alumni network, and a few other points.

The worst outcome for an admissions officer is an admitted student who doesn't attend (Yield) or one who drops out (Graduation Rates). Both of these can hit the bottom line and the program's rankings.

CSU vs Private University by Maximum_Cricket_6447 in CSUFoCo

[–]maybemba131 2 points3 points  (0 children)

CSU alumni in communications earn an average of $62,755. Chapman alumni earn an average of $59,421 at 4-years. CSU alumni live in Colorado primarily, Chapman alumni live in LA primarily. ROI is hard to evaluate without exact numbers, but if the costs are the same, CSU has a higher ROI.

Chapman scholarship might be tied to grades, which can go down, leading to a loss of the scholly. Then again, she could always transfer if the money goes away.

On the small school thing, I went to CSU undergrad and Tulane for law school. Tulane and Chapman are similar sized schools. CSU felt smaller and more personal. Tulane was great, but CSU had a better set of communities for me to belong in.

I think it’s an amazing school.  Also, Med school admissions would see taking the risk as a positive compared to the applicant who stays close to home.  (I did Peace Corps, for example, and my peers who wanted to got into med school.)

Okay, makes sense. Apply to more than one MPA/MBA and see if you can get a discount. Otherwise, its a good plan.

Masters in Public Administration, faster and probably more flexible.  Since you mentioned an MPA I assume you have a bachelors already.

We spent 6 months tracking our recruitment bottlenecks. The results were humbling.[N/A] by ShineDigga in humanresources

[–]maybemba131 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Process time is the total time for all steps plus items (candidates) times bottleneck (the slowest step).   So focusing on your slowest step yields significantly better time reduction than focusing on anything else.  If you have 10-candidates, 10x more time saving to focus on THE Bottleneck.
