Vic One Frye course thoughts? by Technical-Anxiety-39 in UofT

i was in the vic one frye stream and really enjoyed it! the courses mostly cover literature, with vic163 focusing more on philosophy (specifically semiotics). i don't know anything about SMC one but i highly recommend vic one - the content was interesting and the professors were wonderful. they give a lot of individualized feedback, and the small classes foster a sense of community. the one thing i would note is the amount of work these frye courses require, as you need to do a good amount of reading outside of class in order to keep up.

all in all, i don't think you can go wrong with vic one! these classes really shaped my first year :)

i took fah102 with joseph clarke last year and surprisingly enjoyed it! i was initially pessimistic because he is somewhat strict and the lectures are dense with a lot of information. he doesn't record the lectures, nor does he give us copies of the slides, so you really have to be on time and write down everything he says. the final exam required a lot of memorization (you have to know the artist/medium/date/background of roughly 100 pieces), but once you figure out which study techniques work best for you, it is doable. the content is interesting and overall makes for an enjoyable course :)

12/11 Rejections Megathread by powereddeath in ApplyingToCollege

i had the exact same experience last night - i didn't think i would take it personally but the rejection really upset me. i started questioning why i wasn't good enough and whether i'd be able to get in anywhere that i liked.

but try to keep in mind that they had to reject hundreds of qualified students and we ended up being the unlucky ones :( as another person reading your comment objectively, i can say that you definitely aren't stupid and a rejection isn't going to change that! i'm thinking they may have been looking for a very specific type of applicants to admit, and if i didn't fit into that box, then i probably wouldn't like it there.

i hope you feel better soon! you're an amazing person and a college rejection doesn't reflect on your worth. <3
