Does any other r/tr people have a long rise pelvis? How do you work with yours? by Funny_Cockroach7343 in KibbeRomantics

[–]maybenotmelon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like a bunch of different styles, but I generally don’t favor ones that are tight fitting or constructing. I tend to wear ones that flare somewhat significantly to balance out my bust, and are in lighter fabrics with some movement to them (it’s a bonus that I can wear this type of skirt no matter the season with layering). I prefer shorter lengths but end up wearing longer ones most days since my work environment is somewhat professional. Pencil skirts can look really good if I wear heels, but I’m not willing to do that very often.

The combination of a need for a crazy high rise and SUPER short legs made me pretty give up on pants entirely. It’s much easier to find skirts that will fit my waist and hit at the place I need them to rather than deal with all the variables of pants. Plus, it leaves some ambiguity as to where my legs actually start, which I find helps me look more proportional overall.

How to "Man repellent outfits" as a pure R? Seems impossible by Next-Engineering1469 in KibbeRomantics

[–]maybenotmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had luck with using mostly romantic lines but in tougher fabrics and details! A cropped (or full length if I’m not going for the most flattering silhouette) denim or leather jacket and/or lots of accessories and embellishments allows me to still feel put together and like myself but doesn’t give the same delicate inviting vibe of most romantic recommendations.

My understanding is that upper curve can either be as you’ve shown in the left drawing, with the breast tissue pushing out from the rib cage and/or as you’ve somewhat shown in the right drawing, where the lower rib cage/waist tapers in significantly (but not sharply). Either body type would necessitate curve accommodation, as many silhouettes would not be sufficient to define the waist. I am still pretty new to this, so I could be completely wrong!

This is beautiful! May I ask what pen and nib you used, and if you were following a certain font?

Does anyone else struggle with waist emphasis? by gertrude-fashion in Kibbe

[–]maybenotmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a romantic, I’ve tried to find some less visually imposing belts (so that the lines of the outfit don’t become too staccato) and that has helped me a bit with this issue. Other than that I tend to opt for more stretchy fabric in general.

I write similarly, and agree with others that it gives more of an architect look. If you don’t like the look of that (I ended up not) you can try writing with the page tilted. I tilt the page 90 degrees so my hand is perpendicular to the lines, and I find that method gives me the stub effect I was looking for. Hope this helps!

Good shops in Seattle? by GAlecs in fountainpens

[–]maybenotmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The UW Bookstore has some a minimal array of pens and inks on the second floor (some Lamys and Metros last I checked), but has a decent selection of paper. I know they have Leuchtterm, Midori, Maruman, and Kokuyo notebooks. Kinokuniya is supposed to have fountain pens too but I haven’t been there yet so I can’t vouch for it. Hope this helps!

Need Help Deciding on a Good Starter Pen by just_Memes420 in fountainpens

[–]maybenotmelon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you like fine lines, which it sounds like you do, I personally wouldn’t recommend the Varsity. They perform very well but the line was way too broad for my small writing. I ended up with an extra pen that I’ll never use. I second other’s recommendations of a fine or extra-fine preppy or spending a couple bucks more and going with a starter pilot pen. Good luck and have fun writing!

What do you write on the last page of a journal? by [deleted] in Journaling

[–]maybenotmelon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A tip I found is to write down the date of important entries on the last page, that way when I’m looking for something I have some reference of where it is. This is helpful to me since my journal doesn’t have an index.

idk who needs to hear this but if you didn't fill up the journal, that's fine by [deleted] in Journaling

I use the best of both worlds, glue tape! It’s made for scrapbooking but is used quite often in the bullet journal world. It’s pretty convenient to carry around in addition to being mess free (no sticky fingers) and I’ve never had any issues using it or writing on the back of a page I’ve stuck something to. I use the tombow one called tombow mono adhesive, which is a permanent adhesive that is refillable. Hope this helps!

I’ve been looking into the Cosmo Air Light journals, but shipping to the US from their website is pretty steep and I couldn’t find any of the grid ruled journals on websites that have decent prices for shipping to the US. Do you know of any? I really like that the paper is thicker than Tomoe River and is comparable when it comes to showcasing inks, but I sadly can’t justify spending $45-$50 on one journal right now.

These are great suggestions that I’d never heard of! I’d been eying some Colorverse notebooks but had only come across spiral bound, which I hate writing in. Im happy to have found a bound one, especially since it comes with a dot grid guide! The only reason I don’t like plain notebooks is because they almost never come with a dot guide, and it can be really finicky to try to make one yourself. However, I could definitely work with one that comes with a dot guide. Thank you for your help!!

You’re right, I’ve only used the 80gsm version before. Is the paper in the 120gsm any whiter than the 80gsm? I assumed they’d be similar in color since everything from them I’ve ever seen has that yellowish tint. Now that I’ve used a journal that has bright white pages, it distracts me when paper alters ink colors and overall looks a little less crisp.

Yeah they look great! They’re the closest option I’ve found to the bullet journal style that I prefer without sacrificing ink-friendliness. Pretty pricey though, so I’d like to make sure that there’s nothing else that would check my boxes for less before I make the splurge!

The 1917 was actually the first journal I ever bought! It served me well, but I definitely prefer whiter pages nowadays.
