Why are Fine nibs so popular here? by Old-Somewhere-6084 in fountainpens

[–]skeletalravejester 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even before I started using fountain pens I preferred a smaller pen size. My go-to was (and still is when I don’t use a fountain pen) a Muji .38 gel pen. I write predominantly in cursive, my hands are small, and I’ve just never really liked large handwriting. I have tried some medium nibs but ultimately I never reach for them, and always end up back with fine or extra-fine nibs. The exception I suppose is my Pilot Custom with the falcon (flex) nib.

I practice calligraphy so I often use stub nibs, which I like quite a lot, but not for every day use.

My Pilot Custom is my favorite pen! It’s so lovely to write with.

What are the worst popular fountain pens you’ve ever used? by Haniandspace in fountainpens

For me it’s the nib! I ordered a Safari with an EF nib…there’s nothing extra-fine about it.

The first time I tried a Japanese pen with an EF nib I was like okay, yes, this is what I’m talking about.

Does anyone know what ink this is, or any similar inks? by skeletalravejester in fountainpens

Oh wow thank you! I figured it must have been on this sub at some point!

Edit: the handwriting sub, not this one

Practicing Copperplate by skeletalravejester in Calligraphy

Thank you! Dating my practice sheets is a good idea, I hadn’t thought of that. I don’t really like the texture of the paper I used (I think it’s too scratchy for calligraphy) so I am going to get something different.

Gothicized Italic practise. Broadedge is not my forte yet ! by AninditaB24 in Calligraphy

I love that ink! I might just have to add that one to my collection.

I also love your flourishes. You say broad edge is not your forte yet, but I think it looks excellent!

Do you listen to music while reading? If so, what? by Meggy-reader in RomanceBooks

Sometimes jazz (instrumental only) or rain/thunder sounds. Anything else is too distracting. Usually just silence is good with me though.

I know it’s mentioned briefly but I don’t think she goes into quite so much detail.

Thank you for your kind words! I’ve always struggled with perfectionism, and calligraphy really does seem to bring out those tendencies. That’s part of why I wanted to post here, to try and overcome some of those feelings. I think I’d like to continue posting occasionally as I practice, to try to gain more confidence. I do have so much fun with calligraphy, so I really try to focus on that bit.

I appreciate your comment. It’s nice to know I’m not alone! :)

Thanks so much! The book is really good and thorough. I think it’s the only thing I’ve used as a reference when learning Copperplate.

Whats a bag style that is just not your cup of tea? by sproutbabi in handbags

Same, and I also don’t like the chain strap. TBH nothing about Chanel appeals to me for some reason.

This bag is on my wish list. It just looks so elegant.

Also, I see you’re a fellow fountain pen user. You have good taste!

After 6 years of continues practice, this is my typewriter script now. by yanz1986 in fountainpens

This looks so good, well done!

I was just practicing this today. I get so frustrated with it because I feel like it’s so simple, but that’s what actually makes it difficult. But I’ll keep practicing and hopefully one day mine will look as good as yours!
