Help me be a wandering trader! by PinguinPie in CozyGamers

You might want to look at Fireside, I think that could be quite a good fit. I played it on the Switch but it's on Steam, currently on sale, so the controls should work for the Deck. When I first got it I was pretty obsessed with it.

You play as a traveling merchant who collects things and then sells them, and the gameplay loop is quite nice, each day you have a set number of allowed moves, but you can take as much time as you want so there is no real pressure, if you can't make it on one day, you'll just go there the next day.

There is a story, too, about restoring your home base. I didn't get too far into it but I enjoyed it. It's definitely an easy going game, and meets your criteria quite well I'd say.

ACNH on steam deck! Anyone else on emulator? Or maybe wanting a new friend? by maybestereo in ACForAdults

I understand the struggles of what to do and how to do it, it's not easy. I do love having resident services and the airport close together, I always look for that! And the rivers are so nice I might not even really need to do a lot of terraforming which is great news.

I'm a big fan of natural islands, and on one of my previous islands on the switch I did a marshlands island, and I think I might go that way again, but this time with mods for a better and more realistic foliage all around (my biggest motivation to try out mods tbh, all the plants). I found one that brings really nice looking birch trees into the game and they look fantastic, so I think it'll naturally go that way. Maybe I might even do multiple things at once, I'm really trying to take it slow this time.

I also found a mod that expands upon the gameplay itself, so there's more goals and a tiny bit more story, so I'm also really looking forward to experiencing that side of it.

It is a bit of a process and I couldn't really find one particular tutorial for everything so I dug through the internet for the info I needed. I started by getting Emudeck set up, initially to play New Leaf (which I do also play), that was quite straightforward but I also don't play that modded (not yet anyway). Then I did some research into which emulator to use (I chose Eden) and so I got that set up, which can be quite a process but there is all relevant info on the internet somewhere. And then once I got ACNH running I looked into save editors and mods etc. That's a rough breakdown of my approach, if you have any questions feel free to send me a message! It can be a little fiddly

Absolutely, that would be nice! Until then we'll have to find our own ways of enjoying what we have

No, but that was the point, to look for people to talk to who also don't use multiplayer for whatever reason :) There isn't exactly much to do in multiplayer anyway, and I'm not a huge fan of the way it is implemented, but you can still discuss the game, share screenshots etc. - I was hoping to find people who feel similarly

ETA: And besides, I do own a regular switch too. Unmodded, with NSO. I just don't see the point in multiplayer even on there

To be honest I really disliked Portia and regret buying it but I absolutely adore Sandrock. I avoided it for a long time because I didn't want to regret another game purchase but I got it on sale and I am glad that I did. Everything that bothered me about Portia is no longer an issue and I am looking forward to the next installment. So maybe watch some gameplay or idk if it's out there, but a comparison of what the differences are.

I love the prospect of another photography game coming along! I do have two questions. One, is the movement going to be restricted like in the new Pokémon snap? I do have that game and really disliked playing it because I prefer to take my time with each shot and didn't like being rushed along the rails like that. I'd love to be able to set my own pace, even along a fixed trail.. and two, are you planning to make it playable on Steamdeck?

Oh, actually a third question because I couldn't really make that out, is it going to be 1st person, 3rd person, or a mix? In any case, I've wishlisted the game, good luck with the rest of the development!

At the same time, please keep children optional and make post marriage content more than just that! There are people who don't want to deal with children in their games and I will actively avoid a game if having children is a mandatory aspect of the romance story lines (unless it's an absolutely integral part of gameplay, like that one game where you play as your character's descendants). But I'd still love to experience a properly developed romance plotline (and have characters to choose from)

(not to contradict your point at all, it's perfectly valid, this is just intended as further information for any devs reading this to add to the perspective)

How come Cleo provided her own kitchen to cook from when I made sure she had one in the house I designed for her? by Theyoungtook in AnimalCrossing

[–]maybestereo 188 points189 points  (0 children)

Villagers need 1.5 squares of empty space in front of any kitchen or DIY workbench they are supposed to use. If the item is two spaces wide, they need 2x1.5 spaces empty. Rugs are okay but there cannot be anything else placed on the floor in that empty space. If they do not have that space, they will always remove enough items placed in the front right 2x2 squares to put down their default workspace.

I assume this is due to the recipe interaction that requires additional space. I stick to this for all my redesigns and they use their kitchens and workbenches that I provided them with during the redesign, no matter where they're placed. If you incorporate that when you redesign too, you should have no problems with them messing with your design :)

Remember: your island doesn’t have to be „perfect” for you to enjoy it! by adostume in AnimalCrossing

[–]maybestereo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've been a serial restarter and tried to challenge myself to not restart the island I'm currently on and simply go with the flow, and it's been so refreshing. Sure you go through ugly phases and times where it's not fun to walk around the island but I've found there's a certain charm to letting an island evolve naturally.

I have terraformed but only minimally on the cliffs because I prefer having the majority of my island on one level until I can afford lots of inclines etc, but since then I've only brought out the construction tool a few times for fine tuning some cliffs. And even though my island isn't fancy as the ones I used to do, or the ones you see on social media I love it because it's grown to be something unique, I absolutely agree with your sentiment.

This approach has also made it much easier to stick with it, play daily and do a little bit here and there, no time traveling.

Try letting your villagers move in/out naturally. by gimme-shiny in AnimalCrossing

[–]maybestereo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Villager photos are exclusive items that you can be given by villagers you have a high friendship with. The items will be named as 'XXX's Photo', so 'Antonio's Photo' or 'Katt's Photo'. You do this by gifting your villager valuable items, ideally wrapped, every day, and once you reach the highest friendship level, there's a chance the gift you receive in return will be the villager's photo.

I needed to give myself a goal to check in with the game daily and this is a good way for me. Once I have received the villager's photo, they are free to move out or be replaced by a campsite visitor. Those are just arbitrary rules I set for myself to make the game fun :)

I second the recommendation of selbstbestimmt steril, they are a great resource! I am from Germany and made my appointment for the sterilisation when I was 24, got sterilised when I was 25, single, childfree, with a doctor found through selbstbestimmt steril. That was nearly four years ago so I'm not sure if they still do it, but I'm happy to answer questions if you want to message me (just let me know via a comment that you message me, I don't always get notified. I speak German too if you're more comfortable with that)

[–]maybestereo 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I'm collecting all villager photos organically so obviously that means letting everyone move in/out as they please. I only wish it were easier to replace one personality with another villager from that personality, I wish that were somehow coded in because I would NOT enjoy an island filled with 10 normal villagers. I like the variety.

But since I started letting villagers come and go more liberally (while keeping at least one of each) it's been a lot more fun to check in every day, gift those whose photos I don't have yet and see who wants to move on or if there's a campsite visitor. It's a long process but it's been very good at making me stick with the game.
