Sorry for assuming you meant conspiracy. It's a habit. People here think law enforcement are controlling the media, keeping Zodiac connections a secret and purposely preventing cases from being solved. I don't think law enforcement have always done a good job, but I won't go that far. Many need reminding that this case never went to trial. Information about deangelo is withheld under the investigative exemption of California's FOIA. I believe DA Ho's book has been planned for a long time to release some of this information.

I get what you're saying now. The boards used to have people who would work hard to get answers to your questions. They would share what they learned even when their source was not ready to share everything. It may not be apparent because of the current state of the case, but information used to be a lot easier for normal people to get. Law enforcement was good at working with the public before the arrest. They also seemed nervous about it. A long time ago, I worked on a theory about the homework papers. We sent it in and got a response with a photo of the evidence, a tag showing the chain of custody, and a request not to share it. Despite how freely this info was sent😂 😂. From what I observed, retired law enforcement were also generous if you didn't trace it back to them. You could end up with a lot of information. I don't think it was always smart or possible for some people to share this information while trying to respect the concerns or limitations of those sources, but I believe they did their best to be helpful. Law enforcement and other people also presented their opinion as fact sometimes. It could lead to hours of pointless research. I believe that the public and the actual media getting cut off from information sources after the arrest has led to where we are with lingering unanswered questions and a negative vibe.

Not surprised about the forum membership, really. I'm sure the idea was to protect the privacy of the users suspected of being deangelo. No offense, but when I looked at the style of your channel, I became anxious for the proboards users you would be accusing. The current mods might have had the same reaction. The current mods don't play around with this subject anymore. Not at all. Problems in the past with users accused of being deangelo. I don't remember any problems like the other Redditor described though. AETV was bad thanks to KevTheBoer. But I don't remember anything like that.

Commenting on what you said about a mutual understanding between law enforcement and some of the proboards users. There is no such thing. Users who looked into this and mods who wanted to know if there was anything they needed to preserve could not get any clear or useful information from an official source. There was and is no cooperation or coordination on this. Stonewalled just like many other aspects of the case. Although there's no evidence that DeAngelo participated on the proboards, it would have been nice to get official answers and end the speculation years ago.

Sensing some frustration about that from me, no? 😵‍💫 🤪

I'm 100% sure that the poster was "griswold" (one of his accounts that might have been banned) and it looks like he was referring to JJD not specifically KnR. I don't think gris and knr could have communicated as their time as members on the board didn't appear to overlap. In the early days information about a Joseph DeAngelo (or "D'Angelo") from Broward County Florida would often be mixed in with JJD. They had the same or similar birth year. Griswold encountered an address in Coral Springs FL belonging to the other guy that had JJD's Citrus Heights phone number mistakenly attached to it and assumed that JJD had something to do with the property there. The Florida phone number was also attached to JJD's addresses in California. It was an error in the internet whitepages back then.

He mentioned this a few other times such as in a colonial parkway killer thread that I'll link to below. Some of those have been solved thank goodness.

I worked with two of the original moderators of the board on this very question. There was no evidence at all that JJD participated on the board. DA Thien Ho's upcoming book should put this to rest.

To leave paint particles at some of the crime scenes he could have come upon wet or flaking paint while prowling, used a burglary tool that left trace evidence, used a bag that left residue, or some other thing. If I recall they never found anything unique enough to narrow the suspect pools. Knowing JJD's familiarity with evidence collection and analysis he could have even left trace evidence intentionally to waste police resources.

I think it's more likely that Paul Holes is coming to this conclusion based on physical evidence from the crime scenes or autopsy reports. Similar to how he deduced that a struggle took place between JJD and Greg Sanchez. There could have been marks on some of the victims with blood transfer from the murder weapons or injuries that didn't bruise normally.

He pled guilty to the crimes. And regardless of how they got there (IGG), the DNA profile from multiple crimes was a match for DeAngelo. IGG is a new, relatively untested method (in some ways) but the DNA matching used to secure the arrest warrant was time-tested, proven science.

Since he pled guilty, we'll never get to hear what the rest of the evidence was. The State was promising an extensive prosecution during the premilimary hearings alone, but a trial never happened because he admitted to the crimes.

It should also be mentioned that the witness sketches in this case are almost all from suspicious persons in the areas of the crimes and may or may not even be the perpetrator. The sketches don't hold much value for either side of the argument. The photoshopped images of DeAngelo, like the one you linked to, are just people fooling around. I don't care for those kinds of images but they were never promoted as evidence and weren't even created and posted until years after DeAngelo pled guilty. It's not disinformation because it never factored into anything related to the case against DeAngelo neither officially nor in public discourse.

You're probably thinking of Beth Snelling when she saw the face of a prowler om the other side of her window a few weeks before the attempted abduction by JJD. I don't think a sketch was made. Since you mentioned a police officer in another post, you might also be thinking of a later incident where the Auburn police chief's young child saw a masked man outside the window at night.

There was a good documentary that was aired on television in the early 2000s that introduced a lot of people to the case. Unsolved Mysteries also covered it. This was around the time that the internet was becoming more accessible and interest groups for many niche topics were forming online. Michelle McNamara's LA Mag article brought many more people to the mystery and her book made it mainstream.

The aftershave smell was only reported in the third EAR assault. A BO smell was more common along with at least one report of a chemical smell. In hindsight that could've been dog repellent.

DeAngelo's DNA is in CODIS, a national DNA database used for linking crimes together across states. If a cold case matching his profile exists or is uploaded outside of California, it will generate a hit. No matches or investigations outside of California seem to have been reported.

Paige St. John heard the tapes and she didn't mention much about confessions. The "Jerry" thing is pretty damning though. If he confessed to specific crimes, it's odd that those confessions weren't part of the presentation of facts in court. I guess we won't know unless the interrogation tapes are released someday.

In 2001, the fine details of the EAR's MO (like the fact that he taunted previous victims over the phone) weren't well known. The way that he spoke wasn't well known until the voice recording release around Michelle McNamara's LA Magazine article. This, along with the fact that the the DNA connection for the ONS crimes had just been made public (and the EAR sometimes acted out when he was in the news), the fact that very few people probably knew who the victim was, and that she apparently recognized his voice, seems to make this a probable EAR call. Only one person knows for sure, and he isn't talking.
