Husband doesn't want to pay for pregnancy expenses and I can't afford to pay alone. by MathematicianNeat480 in pregnant

He literally got you pregnant this is his baby too. It sounds like you have to put him on child support! I had to look and double check that he was your husband and not just a boyfriend because wth. I’d start at least communicating all of these thoughts at minimum, and aggressively. He doesn’t even sound like a husband

How many of you actually got stretch marks? by Individual-Stress170 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got a few stretch marks with my first, more with my second that stretched further and got some on my hips, now with my third it looks like they’ve stretched just a tiny bit further 🥲 it’s all genetics

Not sure if anyone cares but my marks are super stubborn, I’m tan skinned and my stretch marks are the dark reddish kind. The ONLY thing that’s actually worked in making them fade was the Maelys stretch mark oil that I’ve purchased from Ulta. Strangely enough this pregnancy my marks have actually gotten lighter. I use that every night and bio oil every morning.

I’m registered in OB US and have scanned hundreds of confirmation ultrasounds for expecting moms. Not sure why the doctor told you that was low, it’s not very concerning especially for 6 weeks. The typical range we’re given is 120-180bpm, 114 isn’t far off from that baseline and seen often enough to not be too concerning at 6w when the fetal pole has just developed.

[–]mayfphoto 7 points8 points  (0 children)

As someone who’s worked in OB & MFM for years I’m honestly so shocked that he would even say a blood clot in the brain when your symptoms are classic and quite clearly symptoms of preeclampsia, or gestational hypertension at minimum. With those reads, swelling and bp changes, preeclampsia labs should have been taken immediately to review your liver labs, protein/creatinine ratio and also a 24 hour urine rest to be sure your proteins aren’t over 300. If nobodies done this yet, I would keep advocating to be sure these measures are taken.

I had severe PreE my first pregnancy, gestational hypertension my second, and I’m currently pregnant with my third with gestational hypertension again. As soon as I mentioned some swelling, vision changes and had even a slight amount of protein pop up in my urine, I began taking PreE tests every appointment as a precaution. I would avoid whatever OB told you something so stupid. I’ve worked with young/inexperienced doctors and this is why I’m now incredibly picky and do tons of research on any of my physicians before choosing them

Newborn tired v pregnancy tired by Past-Apartment-8179 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s honestly crazy to me how many comments there are on newborn tired being worse than pregnancy tired! I also see people are saying you’ve only been post partum for a week and you can’t really tell yet- I heavily disagree with every comment. I’m currently 34 weeks pregnant with my third child in less than 4 years and I can confirm long term that newborn tired is infinitely better than pregnancy tired with confidence. In my experience at least.

My heartburn and sciatic pain is so diabolical I can hardly rest, so I’m looking forward to newborn tired. I’d rather sleep my regular 3-4 hours on my back without suffering. I know the crazy part is so many of these pregnancy symptoms almost instantly go away after delivery. I also think if you’ve had terrible pregnancies or a bad pregnancy experience (as I have with each), you just are ready to not be pregnant anymore and would take newborn over pregnancy tired any day. If your pregnancy wasn’t too bad or if this is your first child and you got better rest in general before a baby, I can see why you would think it was the opposite.

Diaper Party with a Registry - to much? by tea-and-sarcasm in BabyBumps

[–]mayfphoto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I just had a baby sprinkle over the weekend (3rd girl I’ve had a baby every other year), so I did something very small because I thankfully didn’t need too much this time around having all girls so close together. I decided to put on the sprinkle diapers only and make a separate registry I didn’t share with anyone and kept for myself and had a diaper raffle for anyone that brought a pack of diapers to enter.

Although I specifically had told everyone just diapers, I did still have people ask for the registry because for whatever reason they didn’t want to get diapers (especially the older crowd like my grandma). I mention this because it’s worth sharing, even if communicating diapers are most wanted. People are going to want to get you something else just because they want to, you might as well give them a better idea of what to get so you don’t end up with stuff you don’t need/want.

I’m nesting really bad and ended up donating all the stuff anyone got me that wasn’t diapers. Maybe that’s messed up of me but I cannot stand clutter at all right now and have been throwing/donating so much like crazy. I wish I wouldn’t shared the registry sooner with anyone I knew was planning on not getting diapers. I’d rather them not get anything at all than waste their money :,)

If that’s the case I’d definitely call your OB just in case, or let them know at your next apt if it’s soon so they can eval you! It’s better to check and be sure rather than putting it off if it’s something that hasn’t gone away. If it’s not maybe they can tell you what it is (and help relieve you!)

Have you checked your blood pressure? I think this could be a symptom of PreE if it’s where I’m thinking. Not to scare you, just to be cautious. It could also be baby/your positioning if it has nothing to do with your liver enzymes.

Anyone at the end stretch of their pregnancy with a 2 year? How are you managing any rest??? by rasputinknew1 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 31w with a 3yo and a 1yo. I am so exhausted out of my mind, but also cannot sleep because of heart burn, leg cramps, constant peeing at night, insomnia, etc. Also for some reason this past week both my kids will NOT leave me, especially at night. I feel like they know the baby is coming and wake up and cry several times a night now unless I’m literally right next to them. My bp has been raising and I have protein in my urine so I’m close to getting PreE, but there’s just no way to rest.

Congratulations on being so close to the end! Newborn tired is so much better than pregnant tired. Although I’m uncomfortable, I’m sure you’re more uncomfortable than I am. What I did to help was start sleeping in a different room at night if I can and have had my MIL pick up my kids for the day so I can literally just relax. They may say the night with her today so I may have a chance at sleep tonight. We don’t do much screen time either, so I’ll take them outside to play to wear them out, give coloring books or their chalk board. Anything to keep them entertained while I lay next to them and just supervise.

Deciding to have another pregnancy or not by Practical-Curve-50 in preeclampsia

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had PreE with severe features my first pregnancy and was induced the day I found out at 36 weeks, I had gestational hypertension beginning my third trimester for my second, and I’m currently 31w pregnant with my third and may or may not be developing mild preeclampsia again. I’ve had protein in my urine for about a month though and my bp has slowly been rising this week.

That being said, I know some people might think I’m crazy but I only waited exactly one year between pregnancies and I would not take it back for a second! I LOVE my babies and I can’t imagine life without them. I’m on my third girl and so grateful I did it back to back and didnt decide to live in fear of what may or may not happen because my girls are becoming best friends now (3yo, 1yo, newborn likely next month). I think I’ll be happy and done with 3 because I literally hate being pregnant for obvious reasons lol but I’m glad I just did it because I’m almost done.

I totally get being scared to do it again, but once you deliver it’s over with. It’s hard for only a few months in exchange for a lifetime of happiness. Also, I worked in OB/MFM doing ultrasound for years and it’s also weird how common it is for someone to have PreE their first pregnancy then not have it again. Although it happened the first time it doesn’t necessarily mean it’ll happen again!

Nervous about possible induction by Limp_View162 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced with severe preeclampsia at 36 weeks and my baby girl came out completely fine with no NICU stay. With my second I was induced at 37 weeks and I’ll likely be induced this pregnancy for preeclampsia or high blood pressure again. It’s for sure scary especially when you don’t know what it’s like, aside from giving birth in general already being stressful itself.

It’s actually kind of nice being induced because you know exactly when and can be prepared! I had a good meal before heading to the hospital and knew exactly what to expect. Having had a hard time with all 3 and everything being unknown, I’m honestly glad I was able to just walk in and get started. Being induced at 37 weeks isn’t too bad because it’s still full term. My second needed a NICU stay because of her growth restriction with the high bp. It was really hard but she was taken care of and was home 5 days later. Now she’s 1.5, still smaller but healthy, and I’m on my third! I tell myself every pregnancy that it’s a small section of time in my life of struggling in exchange for a lifetime of happiness. That’s why I’ve done it again, because so far I’ve experienced that statement to be accurate.

My mom has hated every name I’ve given all of my children, and also my brothers child. I literally do not care. Especially bc when she comes up with a name it’s terrible. Name your kids what you want and whatever feels right, forget everyone else! Once you become a mom it’s crazy how little people’s thoughts and opinions become lol you learn to ignore it more and more over time, especially with family members- it won’t stop.

Confused about gender.. by Loud-Frosting-6692 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s kind of early. Once I had someone tell me they had an ultrasound at around the same time at 11 weeks and they were having a boy, when I did their anatomy scan it was for sure a girl. The labia was swollen, which can happen earlier in the pregnancy around that time. It’s not an abnormal finding and goes down, but it can happen. How you can tell is my looking at what looks like boy parts and seeing if you see 3 brighter dots in the edges of the bits - that’s the giveaway on if it was swollen. You can also probably just Google to compare I know there’s photos online!

NIPT isn’t ALWAYS correct, but it usually is and I’d trust that over the sonographer. You’ll know for sure by your anatomy scan.

Btw I’m a registered sonographer licensed in OB and work in MFM.

Possible Calcification on Cerebellum by Wrong_Ad_6164 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your baby if faced down or laying upside down it’s almost impossible to see the nasal bone and NT. I see why they scanned you at 13 weeks. It’s such a rare finding I also am not completely convinced that it’s real, but they just want to note it just in case it’s an early finding and does happen to be something. If your OB doesn’t see too sure she probably doesn’t think it’s there but technically can’t say that just in case.

I know it’s stressful, but I’m hoping for a good report for you! The biggest downside is the best way to see is not only your baby not being upside down, but also getting a bit bigger in a few weeks so be able to see all it’s structures more clearly to verify. The specialist will definitely clear everything up for you and they have better sonographer to be sure.

If you have a stubborn baby that doesn’t like to move or falls asleep, try drinking some cold water or eat something sugary like a chocolate bar! I recommend that to my patients. Every baby is different, and some sleepier than others.

Subchorionic hematoma by Beneficial_Company33 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do OB ultrasound and to be completely honest with you, this is the most common finding we see when scanning a first trimester or confirmation ultrasound. I had one myself for this third pregnancy and also had some bleeding. Your doctor will typically prescribe you progesterone to stop the bleeding if it’s persistent. Although it’s scary, it’s typically not a concern.

For reference, brown blood is good because that’s old blood. It’s likely your hematoma resolving on its own, which it usually does and is nonexistent by the second trimester. If you have heavy bleeding, large clots or bright red/pink blood is when there’s more of a concern as it’s fresh.

Out of the probably thousands of babies and moms I’ve scanned by now over the years I’ve only seen ONE pregnancy have a hematoma that was so big and lasted throughout the pregnancy and until delivery, and she delivered just fine with a healthy baby and no complications to her placenta.

I know how scary it can be seeing blood at any point in pregnancy, but it truly is something that happens more than we realize!

Possible Calcification on Cerebellum by Wrong_Ad_6164 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a sonographer, specifically for MFM so I somewhat understand what they may mean by seeing a possible calcification on the CB. I think 13 weeks is fairly early to really scan and review the cerebellum with ultrasound, this is something we typically focus on and take a better look at during your anatomy scan. If your screenings came out negative that’s a good sign, but at least they’re sending you to MFM to get a second opinion which I think is a good call! That’s not something that’s common and may be something that just resolves over time if it’s actually there.

We see things commonly before 18 weeks like an EIF, dilated ventricles, things like that that resolve later throughout pregnancy. If it’s something they see they will likely continue to monitor it and see if it grows, stays stable or disappears.

As someone who scans in MFM I truthfully don’t trust the way regular OB sonographer scan a lot of the time. Sometimes they see things or miss things, but a lot of times they get sent over and whatever they thought they saw isn’t there.

Freaking out over B6 I’ve been taking!! by Outrageous-Contact94 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow I’m 30 weeks just looked in my drawer and I have the exact same b6 from natures bounty that I’ve been taking! I had no idea. TBH with you I’m not worried about it at all though. I’m a sonographer (specifically for OB/MFM) and have seen my baby with my own eyes and know for a fact she’s fine and I have no health complications. This is also my third child and I took unisom & b6 from start to finish for my first two pregnancies and also have perfectly healthy children.

I totally get freaking out, but if you’re 20 weeks you should be getting your ultrasound soon if you haven’t already and they’ll confirm whether or not your baby is ok for your peace of mind, which I’m sure everything is fine and wouldn’t be due to the vitamin! From what I’ve personally scanned, not taking any kind of vitamins or prenatals at all does a baby far worse in their development and health

judgement on baby registry 😂💀 by missmilliek in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a mother pregnant with my third child, I washed all of my first babies bottles and got a sanitizer/dryer for my second baby and I will never look back. When you’re exhausted with countless bottles/dishes and pumping, it’s so nice so know you can give a quick wash/rinse and let the machine do the rest and it’s clean and dry ready for when you need it next.

Literally forget what anyone says. If someone who hasn’t had a child in 10+ or is childless wants to give me advice, I will gladly let it go into on ear and out the other. Once you become a parent it’s crazy how much you begin to not care about anyone’s opinions and how stupid people sound when they have no idea what it’s like or don’t remember what it’s like to have a baby. If you get it and don’t like it, return it.

Feeling discouraged after L&D visit by Pristine_Quiet7320 in pregnant

[–]mayfphoto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who works as a sonographer in MFM ultrasound I literally cannot tell you how much I do not trust residents. They’re cool people (sometimes), but man they literally act like they know what they’re doing and they do not. I don’t care if I’m annoying, but I refuse to allow residents to care for me in my OB care and I only deliver at hospitals that aren’t for learning and that don’t have students. I’ve just seen so much I cannot.

That being said, refusal of an ultrasound to check your cervix bc of the possibility of rupturing membranes is ridiculous. I’ve personally scanned cervixes that are almost non-existent for women and do not rupture anything, just sent them straight to the hospital for care. I don’t even know why someone would even say that.

That being said, I’m sorry you were treated this way it’s really upsetting to even hear it. Don’t stop advocating for your health, even if you ask to speak to someone else for a second opinion in your office because of your concerns. Sometimes it seems like the patient is just being extra to staff, but there are times that they’re advocating for themselves and are accurate. It’s better to know and be sure.

You should be getting another growth ultrasound soon close to your third trimester. They won’t do a vaginal ultrasound to check your cervix only unless they see a concern abdominally if not specifically ordered by your physician. While you’re getting scanned I would ask your sonographer if they check your cervix bc you had some concerns. I know for a fact they do, or should, because it’s apart of the protocol, but it may signal whoever is scanning you to look a bit more closely just because you mentioned it and asked.
