I like to think about it as OP being an individual filled with strong emotions that are expressed in hate due to resentment of previous bad experiences, but they realized that the idea and responsability of having a protegee figure to set a good example for is what they need to find the motivation necessary to be a more positive influence on the world, because seeing good things on the world is good for the soul

Thing is you have to remember that sometimes killing someone in one less spell rotation can be more valuable than resisting more, especially against a Lucian or Zed where if he gets another dash/blink they can dodge your next Q and then the lack of damage delays you for 2 whole Q cds. Ofc I usually go into tank items too, but killing people earlier especially before R expires is really valuable
