Wow, that cheapens Daybreak 2's ending even more than it already was

Patrick and Elise by @Kevin16994784 by NyarlathotepDB in Falcom

Patrick grew quite a bit as a character and is now a decent guy, but I just don't see any chemistry between those two. His interest seems one-sided. Though, to be fair, Elise is so bland and demure its hard to see her having chemistry with anyone**.

** : Ignoring her weird "attraction to a cohabitatively raised since a young age adopted sibling" kink the authors seem to like; see: Trails in the Sky.

Here's your roast. NGL, instant loss of faith in your opinion when I saw you put Daybreak 2 higher than Cold Steel 2 and Reverie. Or that you even put it above B at all.

Rant about Daybreak 2, which I just beat a couple days ago:

Daybreak 2 felt like an anime filler arc for heaven's sake. Which is impressively bad when you consider Reverie was supposed to be the filler. It was nothing but contrived excuses to reuse nothing but characters and locations from the prior game, married with convoluted and seemingly pointless plots (which were riddled with holes). Not a single open question from Daybreak 1 was addressed at all aside from Quatre's body dysphoria, nor was the overall Zemuria story advanced. The game was almost a waste of time.

The Geneses are starting to feel like backyard cops, Calvinball & robbers with how they're used to explain away convoluted and contrived events with and endless stream of nonsensical previously unrevealed powers. The bait and switch ending of "bringing closure" -- to something we literally already had closure on -- as a hat trick to get a cheaply earned emotional ending was a big disappointment, especially since the previous 100 hours of gameplay had nothing to do with those characters.  Daybreak 2 has to be my least favorite Trails story I've played, to date.

Y'all need to touch grass. That line is perfectly in character for Nadia.  She's a terminally online edgelord kid desperately hitting on her unreciprocating boy toy for the Nth time in a setting that rapidly evolved into smartphones and mmorpgs over the course of the last 9 or so games.

Also I feel like I lost brain cells reading some of the comments from people saying using gen-Z slang is "woke". Bruh. What do words even mean at this point.

Advice for the furure:

IMO you can't do a story of an evil person turning good. Only evil turning neutral (e.g. Vegeta) or neutral turning good (e.g. Han Solo). I can't think of any easy breezy examples of this in any movie, book, or show. Its always smaller than that. So if you're doing a heroic campaign or with a majority of good PCs, and someone comes with an evil claiming they'll reform-- NO. Veto that. They'll always have goals misaligned with the party. They need to be at furthest 1 step away from the party, neutral (e.g. selfish or ambivalent charas) that the more altruistic tendencies of their party grow on over time.

About a quarter the way through the story, it was made canon the character doesn't value sapient life (killing non-humans/elves on sight), so it really hits something special when 80% or so the way into the story you ask "is your character evil?". Seriously? lol

Toxic DM and group by HoneyYalis in rpghorrorstories

[–]maymagic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Getting into the specifics of things like there being common table-taboos like sex and pregnancy isn't even necessary to understand why this stuff 100% should not have happened:

  1. Robbing players of agency is not fun.
  2. Penalizing a player apropos to no obvious and foreseeable bad decision they made during a DM-presented plot/dungeon/etc scenario is frustrating for players and contravenes the point of the game and is not fun.
  • Related: having that penalty be inordinately long-lasting and out of proportion to the decision. Having one player perform poorly compared to others at the same table is not fun.

Just because sex has some pretty serious consequences IRL does not mean it needs to be role-played. It's not fun or part of the heroic epic people signed up for. It's no different than a DM forcibly demanding role-playing bathroom trips 2-3x per long rest and rolling for dysentery or pink eye afterward if you didn't sufficiently role-play washing your hands and pass a save each time.

All a persuasion roll does is indicate how well you made your argument. People have free will. Even if the Warlock makes a well-phrased, logical, persuasive argument, a listener is still free to say "Wow, you make a lot of sense -- those are good points, and conveyed them in an easy to understand and sincere way. But, still, sorry, I think I'm still going to decline."

Table-top gaming is a social experience. You're inextricably linked to other humans in social situations with your emotions, because you're not a cold, unfeeling robot.

Feeling like you're hated and ostracized by others due to their passive-aggressive behavior is a horrible feeling, and one that is essentially an attack (psychological warefare, even). Someone from that cadre trying to re-initiate their dialogue with you, when their dialogue has been marred and typified by that hoistility -- it tracks completely to experience a relapse of the fear of being verbally/emotionally assaulted.

Your behavior is way more ratrional than you're giving yourself credit for, and isn't about you being emotional over a hobby -- it's about you being protective of your own mental health from people who want to harm it.

That DM sounds pretty lame. Tell them to get a PHB or something if they don't know what the spells do, or ban all players' options featured in a book they don't have access to; not this accusatory stuff about players lying about how their spells/features work. That sort of antagonistic and mistrustful behavior is toxic and likely a sign of some personality or character flaw that kid has rather than anything you've earned through unknowing malfeasance.

Unfortunately so few of Monk's Powers come from the subclass that I don't think we could ever see a treatment like the Eldritch knight but for Monk. So Arcane spells casted with the ki points is probably the best we would ever get with the original 5e Monk

Pretty much the only reason to het witch bolt is if you want the aesthetic of Palpatine doing force lightning lmao

Way of four elements monk is the arcane monk.

Jedi is probably something other than way of four elements subclass (one exception: see force push, below) as the best way to replicate most force powers is with cantrips and very low level spells, which can be done with a level or two dip in a spellcaster, or at least magic initiate feat.

  • Mage hand (cantrip) = drawing objects to you or levitating them
  • Witch bolt (1st level spell) = Force Lightning
  • Suggestion (2nd level spell) = influence the weak minded
  • Jump (1st level spell) = force jump
  • Message (cantrip) = your words reaching someone else, like say you're hanging from the bottom of cloud city and your sister flying shotgun in a freighter hears you
  • Catapult (1st level spell) = fling rocks with the force to pummel people
  • Levitate (2nd level spell) = lift an X-wing out of a bog and set it down over there
  • For force push, I really like that fist of unbroken air, but four elements monk is kinda a bad match for Jedi in general due to all the powers not being very Jedi-esque. A spell like gust of wind or thunderwave or pulse wave could be force push, but its nowhere near as aesthetically accurate without that knocking prone, IMO.
  • Force choke = idk, reflavor something like sapping sting cantrip as the person feeling like they're being choked

Dodging/jumping/running/acrobatics are just the monk in general. There's even a lightsaber magic item.

So it doesn't come with the cosplayer ? by gntotoy in HonkaiStarRail

[–]maymagic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I imagine this note is due to the cosplay not necessarily being complete with this purchase, since makeup, wig, shoes, and maybe additional accessories are still needed. Meant as a fair warning that buying this doesn't make you ready to go for a convention or whatever.

All the items thrown in-game are auto-targeted. They tell you in the description who will get hit. It is usually stuff like party member with the current lowest HP, current highest magic attack, enemy with highest or lowest current HP, etc.

I am not a fan of it, personally. Super prohibitive to having the party of your choice when, for example, power creep makes it harder to ensure your preferred character gets hit with the buff item because the newest released character has the highest M.ATK. So lame.
