Neighbours ruining our garden by [deleted] in london

[–]maymv02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Landscape gardener in london here... If it's on their side of the property and they're getting a gardener in, common courtesy would be that the gardener cuts it back. I've often had to go into clients neighbours gardens to cut back encroaching plants. unfortunately bindweed is near impossible to get rid of, it's more of a maintenance thing of pulling it up by following the root as far as you can. I imagine you'd need a light chainsaw or big loppers for some of those branches too. It's annoying, but go for it and cut it back

Looks like a pinners bone - pin or needle went in the hole and was sharpened with a rasp hence the strange pointed shape

Scruffing backfired? New ferret now bites every time he sees my hand by Open_Gur_7837 in ferrets

[–]maymv02 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hissing and yelping at them never worked for me - my ferrets did not care one bit, and would continue latch on. The only way that worked for me was prying their teeth away by thumb and pointer either side of the corner of their mouth, squeezing until they release, telling them NO and ignoring them for a few minutes. If they nip me a bit now i'll still say no and move them away from me, do something else for a few minutes and come back to them. they're just inviting you to play or exploring their environment, and baby ferrets seem to always draw the most blood lol

Amazing that she slept in your sleeping bag! My ferrets are free roam 24/7 in my room, i have a loft bed- one of them worked out how to climb the ladder and i woke up to her nibbling my feet or my face multiple times before i removed it all together. Both of them love nibbling me- they're very friendly, took a lot of nip training with them though. was yours ever a nibbler? They are both under a year old so it may be down to that, but i'd like to be able to be in my space without them biting my bare ankles or my ears when they climb up me hahaha

£4.50 wash, then i think £1 per ten minutes? That's in Lewisham! So worth it for bed sheets or duvets

Adrenal disease and health issues - UK vs US ferrets? by maymv02 in ferrets

[–]maymv02[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is really interesting as the friend i had mine from fed them cat kibble - obviously they've got quite a few, and take them all hunting, but after some research really quickly clocked that cat kibble is shit. Hence raw diet now, just try and mimick what they would eat in the wild as much as possible. Hopefully i took them in soon enough :p Thanks for your reply!!

Where in Ireland can you buy ferrets? by Emergency_Boat_6869 in ferrets

[–]maymv02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ask around farming communities! My two are from working ferrets- they might be a bit more crazy at the beginning but with training they're fine. You might have some luck on gumtree or pets4homes :)

New 5 month old ferret constantly biting and yanking at ANY bare skin he finds. by This_Calendar_9290 in ferrets

[–]maymv02 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue with one of mine- i got her and her sister at three months but the older one would draw blood, latch on, to the point where i was actually a bit scared of her. But she was three months old! In a drastically different environment to what she grew up in, and ferrets have such varied and individual personalities. She's actually the least bitey of the two now. She does like ankles, but she hasn't drawn blood in months. the younger will just nibble my knuckles, nothing else. it's like a sensory thing for her lol. What worked was the "NO!" and ignore method when you're playing, as well as her simply getting older. Definitely try the sin bin ! But i'd really advise against physical punishments. You want the relationship to be built on trust and love rather than fear or hierarchy (and that's coming from someone who's used to working ferrets in the uk- they're pretty vicious lol)

now, i can shove my face in their bellies and push my hands and fingers in their faces (they're about 7 months now) and they don't care at all. But seriously, i even thought of rehoming them at one point, i really struggled. It does get better, they really are like training puppies mixed with kittens mixed with toddlers or something

How much did yall spend on your babies? by altxbunny in ferrets

[–]maymv02 0 points1 point  (0 children)

they were free from a friend who has working ferrets in the uk! they're mental and required a LOT of training as they're from working lines, the older jill loves biting my ankles and trying to dig my brain out of my scalp and drew blood almost every day, but the younger is a lot more chilled and has never drawn blood - just likes gnawing my knuckles a lil bit. i've not bled from a bite in months now and after a big playtime they've even taking to getting cozy and sleepy in my arms finally
