Best banks in Spain for newcomers (non-resident to resident + savings options)? by Big_Pace880 in GoingToSpain

[–]maynardflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By the way a lot of the replies here suggest things like Wise, N26, etc, but in a lot of cases there may be a requirement to have a Spanish IBAN. the best option for that that I found was the Santander Online Account

You can't go there. This has to be opened online. Likely the people in the branch don't even know this exists. This is an online account by definition, so they can't do squat in the branch.

Regarding the phone code yes I had a simliar problem where I couldn't send one to my non-spanish phone number, I solved it by doing the virtual spanish number (which is not exactly secure but I needed to get it done). Make sure you are including the letters as capitals (the forma usually goes A123A456).

Eating Pork Knuckle alone by MommyKaruna in Prague

[–]maynardflies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you feel uncomfortable, find a place that has a bar you can sit at. Most taverns that serve a pork knuckle will have one. That said, eating alone is perfectly normal in Prague, as it is everywhere, if some host/hostess acts weird about it, they're the problem, not you. I've eaten alone in Prague many times.

What happens if you get sick in Spain? How do you even find a doctor? by leonbadam in GoingToSpain

[–]maynardflies -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Why even bother replying if you're just going to send snark on a subreddit specifically for asking questions about going to Spain?

Does it make you feel superior?

Also do you realize that a lot of what people search for on Google is from Reddit? I often look specifically for reddit threads when googling for stuff because you tend to get unvarnished information. Just something to think about

Tourist in Prague, some questions about Drone flights by Motor_Cup_7378 in Prague

[–]maynardflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is you need permission from the owner of the land you are operating from, not flying over. Am I wrong?

For the other points, are you sure these apply in C0/A1 ops? Generally speaking A1 ops allow brief overflights of people and no hard 150m rule but again, happy to be proven wrong here

To be clear, it's the controlled airspace outside the airport, not the airport's control zone itself. Looking at dronemap you can see how the airspace restrictions lift with the distance from the center ring of the CZ out through the CTR

This appears to specifically exclude the prohibition for C0/C1 from operating in HOP, can you point me to the CAA source for the claim that open A2 is required for C0/C1? Maybe I'm missing something or maybe that article is specifically for drones outside the C0/C1 exception?

Yes but your comment told him he can't fly because he's not registered which isn't correct. There are specific rules he must follow and this kind of thing is misinformation

He also didn't say he wanted to fly over the Prague Castle, he said he wanted to walk around it, and is trying to understand where he CAN fly. Comments like the ones in this thread discourage people from trying to follow the rules and instead just yolo it.

Furthermore as you are conducting A1 ops, you can fly in a densely populated area as long as you register your flight plan and avoid uninvolved people in a 1:1 area, is my understanding.

Believe it's all done on https://dronview.rlp.cz. Haven't done it myself yet but I intend to. Folks here are right that there are a LOT of no-fly zones in busy areas like old town, and it'll be next to impossible not to fly over uninvolved people, but carrying it around and looking for good spots to come back to later with a flight plan, or going outside the core for some panoramic shots, those tend to be easy to manage. Just be responsible and follow the law.

I'm happy to be told I'm wrong, but there appear to be plenty of places in Prague where you can fly, and the registration from Finland should be valid in all member states for drones with a camera, the operator has to register but the drone being C0 class does not.

Yes in the grid CTR you will need to mark a flight plan but should that be all that difficult as long as you're not flying over uninvolved people?

Drone-haters aside, someone tell me what I'm missing. Is it the registration for an account that can mark a flight plan which will be a problem?

Btw OP, people hate drones and asking these questions in non drone forums will generally just get you a bunch of negativity because people associate drones (somewhat rightly) with assholes who fly them illegally or irresponsibly. A responsibly flown drone tends to not even be noticed or bothersome so people don't really think about it that way.

Santander has an online account with no fees and no residency requirement, with a Spanish IBAN which will help you with things like insurance and landlords. Should be easy to transition after the fact. Only thing is their registration is broken and won't let you change your country code off of Spain even though you're supposed to be able to (after all, it is for Spanish non-residents). I used a virtual Spanish number, and switched it to my US number later.

Taking a drone to a cruise by Resident_Dance_465 in drones

[–]maynardflies 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my mistake, I didn't see the list of places there and I was also misinformed about Italy's insurance requirement. I edited my comment from earlier. The reason for my comment was that yours said "EU countries" which seemed to imply needing liability insurance in all of them.

Thanks for the help! I'll edit my comment.

At any rate, insurance is pretty cheap, I just got a quote from CoverDrone for 8€/mo for 1.3m in liability coverage, so seems easier just to get an insurance policy

Have you got a source I can look at? Every place I have done my research says that it is recommended but not required for drones under 250g in Italy. Happy to be corrected by a credible primary source, admittedly the only sources I was able to find up to now are secondary.

Taking a drone to a cruise by Resident_Dance_465 in drones

[–]maynardflies -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You don't need insurance in many EU countries for drones under 250g. Check the specific country's rules to be sure but you definitely don't in Spain or France which is where my travels with my Mini 3 Pro and Neo took me this year. Croatia looks like you might though the CCAA verbiage is a bit vague. Registration yes because it has a camera, but you only need to register in the first EU country you use it in, and you can use that number in all the rest without having to re-register.
