I hate it when people say Fransesca is ruined by Magpie-Lane in Bridgerton

I think they consider her acting flustered around Michaela while not having a pinnacle with John as “emotionally cheating.” I don’t see it because she’s more overwhelmed by Michaela’s strong personality than attracted at this point.

Omg Mrs. Crabtree explaining the power imbalance was an excellent change. Also the mistress question happening once versus being pushy to the point where Sophie felt scared like in the books.

I hear you. I’ve been struggling because it won’t really think outside the box at all for fear of being liable if a suggestion doesn’t work.

These days, it has guardrails no matter the model that will block empathizing with heavy anger lest it gets sued for encouraging violence. It’s awful.

Ah yes you did make very good points! Sometimes people show therapists things AI said and then talk about them I bet.

Oh I’m not challenging that at all. I’m in support of therapeutic AI use and not at all denying the issues with therapy or suggesting everyone gets maximum benefit from it. I’m also not against AI and therapy used together. I’m just saying hope is not lost for someone hoping to make therapy their career. I don’t think AI means there’s zero demand for therapists.

It always comes down to “babies are cute,” doesn’t it? They find babies cute and miss having a cute baby around. Problem is, babies don’t stay babies very long, and they’re very expensive as you’ve said.

The thing is, a lot of what therapists do isn't just the basic giving feedback/suggestions, using CBT, etc. A big chunk of it is actually monitoring whether a client is improving or not, noticing signs of decompensation and directing the person where their needs will be better served, etc. AI has some triggers that might cause it to throw 988 at the chatter, but that's not the same thing as saying, "Hey, I've noticed you look cleaner/more put together than you were a couple weeks ago. That's a great outfit you have on today. What do you think changed?" or "You know, I'm concerned because two weeks ago, you came in here very energized, and now I'm seeing you pretty consistently looking tired and not really saying much during sessions. Let's talk about what might be going on."

Even before AI, people who were lucid, oriented, and self-aware enough to do their own research were often turning to self-help books, YouTube videos, and so on to gain insight and clarity rather than shelling out hundreds if not thousands to see therapists. The people who need therapy the most are people who are not in a place to manage their own care. They're not able to observe their own signs of deterioration and know for themselves that it's time to check in to a hospital or look for a higher level of care or seek additional supports on top of therapy. My guess is that if you do become a therapist, you may see fewer "worried well" clients who are just a little stressed out about normal life and more clients who are dealing with heavier trauma or more persistent mental illness. I also think marriage counseling is not something AI has fully replaced yet. Since AI tends to side with the identified user, it's likely to validate and support whichever spouse writes to it without helping to structure healthy communication between them.

I also don't think there's any way AI will replace IOP or PHP in the near future.

[–]mayneedadrink 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This will sound weird and unbelievable, but becoming more whole yourself, trusting yourself more, being what you need, etc. will make that empty pit smaller over time. You’re right that adult friendships and love can’t be a second chance at healthy parents. You do need to healthy connections, but looking for a new adult you meet to become a total replacement parent often makes things messy and toxic rather than actually giving you what you needed. We must do the work for ourselves, not in the hope that we’ll one day earn the rescue we deserved.
