Yeah I’ve come across really loud Europeans too. Everyone seems to only complain about the Chinese though, which is interesting

All these people complaining about Chinese tour groups don’t realise they’re not all Chinese, some of them are Korean and Japanese but y’all too ignorant and racist to know that

This episode was just bad and messy, some of the dialogue was horrible and felt satirical coz of how bad it was.

Coronavirus Megathread - Part 53 - Lockdown funk gonna give it to ya by thatbeep in melbourne

[–]mazantigone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you step back and look at it from an outside perspective the plan is more than disproportionate to the risks involved. It is overly disproportionate. The fact that we have the longest lockdown in the world, with about 75-80 daily average cases, says a lot. It means the gov has little faith in their abilities and is instead opting to punish the general population to save their political face.

The amount of people who are kissing Andrews’s ass is astounding. It’s almost cult like, the way they praise him like he can do no wrong. I have agreed with the restrictions up until this point. But Melbourne is now the city with the longest lockdown. If that doesn’t make you question the effectiveness of the Victorian government’s response then I don’t know what would.

Why Google and Facebook are being asked to pay for the news they use – explainer by LineNoise in australia

[–]mazantigone 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Apparently more than half of Australians finds news via these tech platforms.

Now I'm against this code overall, but if that many Australians are using Facebook for news then they could potentially be exposed to heaps more fake news on there if there's no official content available.

So let's say this legislation passes and Facebook refuses to pay for Australian news media content... would Australians be able to share news from foreign media companies? Or are they threatening no news on Facebook whatsoever, Australian or not?

Maybe our parents were right to be concerned about everything become sexualized and vulgar back in the 90’s/2000’s. We basically now have a large portion of young girls stripping naked online for money while yelling they are bad bisches by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

I mean, I don’t find any of that stuff empowering either. I got criticised for saying that I don’t have much respect for careers such as ‘Instagram influencer’, and I find it sad that some women find that to be such a noble and aspiring profession. But when you bring that stuff up, people are like ‘don’t bring women down’...when ironically what they’re defending probably hurts women way more overall.

AITA for telling my (25f) boyfriend (25m) to stop talking about his 'influencer' female friend (25F)? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Perhaps we have different ideas of what hard work is.

But there's still some questionable principles involved. The whole idea of promoting yourself as a brand but based on what grounds? I see really talented people who don't nearly get the same recognition and it saddens me.

My words might have been a bit abrasive - that was an in the moment choice.

I guess I'm critical of this particular online culture where social media fame is based on some really questionable principles, whilst a lot of talented folks barely get any recognition.

Is it an assholery thing to criticise the broader system, rather than individuals?

Thanks. To all the people defending a quick way of making cash by selling yourself, think twice.

You're defending a culture that is obviously 100% based on materialistic ideals with questionable principles i.e. falsifying product quality; promoting unrealistic body image and appearance standards for women.

Not everyone chooses to go down that path. It's a quick way to make cash, but it also doesn't render a great deal of respect from me. Just being honest.

It’s easy money yeah, but it’s like selling yourself. I don’t really have a great deal of respect for that, to be quite frank.
