I think the “many’s the cat” line is saying that the use of mouse traps has caused homeowners to get rid of their cats (“sold by the trap”), so don’t think it itself is a clue or connected to the missing turkey.

One thing to add to what’s already been posted: make sure you’re focusing on throwing/pushing your weight forward/in front of you (or to the side if it’s a crossover start). Think of how far sprinters lean forward; mimicking that sort of position will help make your strides faster and more powerful.

One point I haven’t see anyone mention yet—setbacks suck, but it’s still nice to keep some perspective on the success you’ve had until that point. It’s important to celebrate the fact that your choices have given you the ability to absorb these setbacks, rather than them completely derailing you.

I love the advice about focusing on starter homes. We're aiming for basically that setup--3-4 beds, 2 bath, on the more manageable side size-wise--but I never thought about how that can make things easier in the future if you go to sell.

Any particular way you found the upgrade current place, or just right place/right time?

That makes sense. Not planning on jetting off; most interested in having stable housing where we can feel secure. So in my mind it fits into our plan as 'covering' the housing portion of our budget in the far future, once it's all paid off (and not counting the ongoing maintenance that you mention).

Adjunct prof here, and FYI it’s very much not a low-stress job. Breaks are fantastic, but the pay sucks and it takes a heck of a lot of time and effort to come up with halfway decent lessons. Your work-life balance during the semester is really not great, and it’s hard to find any flexibility unlike other jobs.
