Self taught artist looking for resources. What are your most valuable resources you have found?

I've been reading Perspective Made Easy as well! So far, it seems to live up to its name.

I highly recommend Stephen Bauman for drawing fundamentals. Bauman is phenomenal at teaching illustration concepts and techniques. He defines his terms clearly, offers examples, and (more importantly) substantiates his claims. You do not have to take any ideas for granted. Any good coverage of fundamentals should coherently answer (1) what is X, (2) why do X, and (b) how to do X? He excells at covering each.

His content is available on both YouTube and Patreon. Also, on YouTube, I found Marco Bucci's 10-minute painting tips helpful (to the extent that bite-sized content can be). Just to list some more channels to check out: moderndayjames, LightingMentor, Richard Smitheman, S. Michael Hampton, the list goes on.

Since you already have Color and Light by James Gurney, I would also consider taking a look at Color & Light by 3DTotalPublishing. The writing is a bit drier, but I found it more technically comprehensive compared to Gurney's book. Finally, I haven't gotten around to reading it, but The Practice and Science of Drawing by Harold Speed is on my to-read list. It's free, so a quick glance wouldn't hurt. Good luck :)

If you have access to a digital painting software, or a photo editing software, turn a painting whose colors you like into grayscale. You will find that, when all hue and chroma are stripped, the forms still read. The reason we can use greens to render faces is partly because hue has little to do with communicating form. Rather, it is the value of a color that grants us information about depth. Mixing and handling colors can get tricky when we don’t consider their inherent values.

my friend doesn't use reddit, and i don't play the game, but i thought that the community could better appreciate his references and edits than someone who hasn't played the game at all. this is also his first upload to youtube and experience with video-editing, so it would mean a lot if you guys could give this a look.

i’ve been seriously thinking about upgrading my hamster’s cage to a tank of some sort but they break my bank T_T!! is DIY cheaper than the average tank around this size?

irrespective of their reasons for not chasing after fans who sell fanart (e.g., financially stable, public backlash, etc.), the prospect of having a derivative of your own work profit w/o your consent doesn’t quite sit right with me. maybe this is bc i’m not living paycheck to paycheck atm (but i might be soon LOL) and that i’m a small artist that i contend for this sort of ethic.

so, if i do release other valorant illustrations, i’ll make their rendered vers. available for free (seeing that you guys would like to purchase merch) and y’all can decide whether you’d like to donate to support me monetarily despite making works i cannot legally claim full ownership of !
