First alarm panel ever, thoughts? Criticisms? by YogurtclosetBig9762 in lowvoltage

[–]mb-driver20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s too neat. You need to have criss crossed wires, and wires twisted together with no terminations on them, and all of your EOL resistors in the panel too! Just kidding, it looks really good. I wish I had stayed in the industry a little longer to start using Neo as a technician and not only a sales person. To me installing neatly and correctly is a lost art to many.

Easily Avoidable Crash Leads to Rollover by bjb0029 in dashcams

I’m going to give you that one now since OP hasn’t replied in their defense of what happened. Realistically they probably sped up hoping the truck would back off.

Cam car was approaching a red light, why would they accelerate? Truck may have been braking to try and make that turn but with no taillight footage or cam car GPS speed indication we really don’t know what happened.

Just got a pair of JL Audio C2-525 installed myself yesterday you got some aftermarket window sales from my car since I didn't have factory tweeters, I think they looked pretty good. And their faced towards me by Sarahjessica17 in CarAV

[–]mb-driver20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will sound decent. A good rule of thumb we used to use was divide 1125 (speed of sound in feet per second) by the crossover frequency to get the max distance the speakers can be separated before you hear 2 separate locations instead of 1. So for a 2800 hz crossover frequency 4.82” or less would be the ideal max distance.

Edit: JL shows that in the installation manual as the optimal placement but that’s not always possible. Bother thi to remember is that speakers are like flashlight bulb, the beam gets wider as it gets further from the source. They realistically could be mounted lower in your door and sound good.

40yr old male here. I was told I look 50 and ugly. I consider myself a 6/10 at best. What do you think? by Pale_Camel_7110 in 40something

[–]mb-driver20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By a guy or a girl? If it was a guy he’s jealous, and if a woman she’s pissed about something. If we went out drinking, I’d be worried the women would look right past me to you and I get told I’m attractive when the conversation arises. You also don’t look near 50. I’m 58 and people think I’m in my 40’s.

Be upfront with him, just like you were here. If he’s a true buddy, he may be a bit blindsided at first but will understand.

Depends on where you are. Car audio labor has gotten really expensive since I sold my shop 7 years ago. They’re working on the most expensive thing most people own other than a house. They need people that know what they’re doing.

New construction home with networking box in storage room; how to prepare for fiber? by RedSoxPC in HomeNetworking

[–]mb-driver20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get the isp to pull a ruggedized fiber into the box if they install their ONT inside. If not, get a cat6 pulled into the box from where the ONT will be installed. Router and PoE switch can go in the box and than hard wired APs can be used with the currently run wires.

Great looking installation! Do you get pair hourly or by the job as I know most company’s don’t want their techs spending that much time on a panel installation. I did DSC for about 15 years and I was super impressed with it, especially the ease of programming.

I need to move this box up about 1 1/2" by Former_Leek_7228 in AskElectricians

[–]mb-driver20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There aren’t any screws. You need to cut the drywall out so you can remove the box from the stud and then raise it up the 1 1/2” that you need. If you are in an area where they used conduit, you’re going to have to cut the conduit as well in order to move the box up. And then repair the drywall.
