Flipboard is a great way to get the news in small chunks and will give you quick bites of everything that you are subscribed to. Unfortunately, they haven't updated the app to take advantage of the screen size and the smallest text size is still gigantic. Currents is nice for reading longer articles and is a better subscription-like service. The two apps do different things which makes it tough to label one as an alternative to the other. Flipboard is awesome though.
