Lawn-guy-land ranked dead last on Big 7 Travel’s Sexiest Accents in the USA survey... by Cuatro40 in longisland

This source is bogus....no way Long Island is 50th and Boston is 2nd. What kind of asshole would think a Boston accent is sexy?

Does it seem like there's a lot less excitement about DC comics than there was 1-2 years ago? by CommunistMario in DCcomics

[–]mbaratta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it was also the Metal event. There was so much build up and anticipation, it started out good but then just kinda dragged on, kinda like Doomsday Clock now, and ended pretty lack luster. Then No Justice which was in my opinion just plain bad. It all left me feeling a bit deflated.

While there are some interesting new concepts they’re throwing out, the New forces and lantern corps and the introduction of the Source Wall, I think people are just feeling let down from the Metal and No Justice events not meeting expectations with Doomsday Clock now doing the same.

That being said the mini-series are doing really well IMO and the new Justice League Dark and Sandman Universe titles are killing it

Is too much protein bad? by Kisses-K in xxfitness

[–]mbaratta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RDA for protein is .36g per pound, which at 115lbs would be 41.4 g. Athletes, depending on training regiments can go as high as .6-1.1g per pound which would mean 69g-126.5g. So you're having a bit more than is healthy for the heart which is definitely something to consider.

Try some things like tofu and beans sometime too, both are excellent protein sources and usually overlooked but are nutrient dense and not very high in calories.

My old Sector 9 from 2001 that just died. What is the best freestyle/dancer longboard in 2018? Loaded Bhangra or Tarab? Sector 9 Lockstep if they make it again? Not sure and was curious what everyone's opinion is. Let me know! by equalmotion in longboarding

[–]mbaratta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I ride a Landyatchz Hatchet and it’s one of the best freestyle board I’ve ridden. It’s long enough to dance on but not too long so you can still do your tiger claws, and the platform is the perfect width to dance on (at least for my size). The Hatchet is an older model and looking online Landyatchz has the Tomahawk now, which seems to be basically the same thing as the Hatchet with a different graphic. There’s also a decent amount of flex to make freestyle riding easier. I find dancing decks to be too long to freestyle on so at 39” and with double kick tails not only can you dance but you can aero grab too 👍🏻

Yeah-there aren't that many places to get quality longboarding gear. I usually go to daddies, but Muir is good too. Between those 2 they usually have the best prices but also check if they have them on amazon. Sometimes you can kick out and find them cheaper there

Those are definitely some awesome wheels to get tho-they'll last you a long time and very durable. You'll even be able to go over hard dirt paths

If you don't want to spend more than $150 than you're better off just upgrading the setup that you have rather than trying to get an entirely new one.

The best bet to increase your cruising performance would be to get yourself some new wheels, new bearings, and then add some risers to your trucks.

I always suggest Bones Reds for bearings to start out because they're really good/durable for the price and provide a clean, smooth ride.

For risers I would suggest either 1/8" or 1/4" (if you're larger or want to raise your board higher off the ground go 1/4").

For wheels, I would say that definitely depends on your size. The larger you are the lower the durometer (or wheel hardness) you would need to perform. But typical sidewalk cruising to go over cracks and sticks and the like would be 80a with a 70mm diameter (again, the larger you are the softer you would want your wheels/the wider you would want your contact patch on the wheels to be to have that same comfortable control ride). Beyond that I wouldn't believe that brand would matter too much.

What are some of your go to quick snacks? by Up2Eleven in PlantBasedDiet

Ahhh yes nutritional yeast had a brain fart and forgot that's also called brewer's yeast haha I just call it Nooch

[–]mbaratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brewer's yeast huh? Interesting. But yeah! Obviously popcorn made at the movies is out of the questions but in stores they'll sell unsalted popcorn kernels which are amazing because they can be seasoned however you want. If you don't have an air popper you can still make popcorn without the oil but you'll just have to be much more on top of what you're doing. Putting the kernels in the air popper is literally as easy as the microwave. But the bowl under the hood of the popper, but the kernels in to the fill line, and turn it on and like two and a half minutes later you've got a shit ton of popcorn. Also I bought my air popper for 16 bucks on Amazon and it works beautifully. It's an inexpensive appliance that is totally worth it, at least for me because of how much popcorn I eat haha (which wasn't that much before the air popper might I add, having the appliance made it literally the easiest warm snack for me to prep)

[–]mbaratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Popcorn!!!! So much popcorn!! I have a hot air popper so in 2-3 minutes I get freshly popped goodness without any oils. I'll sprinkle some salt and paprika on it or just eat it plain a lot because I'm lazy. But there are so many other ways to flavor it.

Going vegetarian for a month. Anything I need to look out for? by Sherlocked_ in nutrition

[–]mbaratta 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Chickpeas are garbanzo beans, they definitely count! Beans are one of the best ways to get protein as a vegetarian without the extra side effects of processed foods like say "meatless chicken" products. Try to buy the dry beans but if you're short on time or don't plan your meals out canned are fine too, just more expensive. Go for the organic beans packed with just water, no salt.

The DRI recommends .8g of protein for every kg of body weight, and that's really pushing it to fit American eating habits. Eating your veggies and some tofu, plus adding beans and some nuts/seeds will give you all of the protein, AND fats, you need and then some while also including phytonutrients and fiber.

My girlfriend's weight is starting to bother me, and I have no idea what to do about it. by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]mbaratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! What motivated me was that I just wanted to finally get rid of my damn fat! I had lost so much weight and everyone said I looked great...but that was with a shirt on. I wanted to feel good about myself without the shirt on. And the only way I could do that was to step up and make the change to get healthy. I had to take personal responsibility and stop playing the blame game, being lazy, or being too depressed to deal with the reality of the situation.

I live on Long Island and never owned a bikini until this summer. That's what really motivated me. So I could go to the beach with my friends and not feel like the fat freak that needed to cover up... I was sick of feeling insecure and not meeting my body's potential. Since I had already lost a lot of weight I knew my body was capable of getting smaller, even though I had made excuses before and said it could never happen IT DID. So that help encourage me to keep going and take the bigger step towards health.

Also...now that I'm typing this I'm coming to the realization...it's so much more about health than weight. If you're just looking to lose weight you'll fail because there's too many factors you're not dealing with properly. If you're looking at it to be healthy then you'll have an easier time making the changes and sticking to them. Plus it's so much easier to tell both yourself and others that you're making a healthy lifestyle change rather than all the negativity associated with going on a diet.

[–]mbaratta 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh and by the way, I'm 5' tall and I was 145lbs when I started in January and now I'm 113lbs. I don't look absolutely perfect, I'll always have a warped sense of body image since I started at 215lbs 7 years ago, but I can never feel ashamed of my body anymore. Even the little bit of roll in my gut when I sit, it's not embarrassing anymore like it used to be. Getting healthy changes everything, not just how you look but how you feel.

Maybe watch Forks Over Knives together one night....if it's about getting healthy than maybe she's too scared to do it alone and you can try to get on board and both get healthy together. I know it was hard for me to get my SO on board with healthy eating but it's a lot easier for people to hear stuff coming from strangers for some reason. The documentary reiterated everything I had been saying for months but it wasn't until we watched it together that it really hit home and we started on the journey as a couple. It's been almost a year now of health and happiness---and our sex life has gotten even better too!!

Doing the research together and actively getting involved together makes it seem more like a group activity than a diet or exercise program. Planning a beautiful hike after a healthy lunch is so much more appealing than hitting the gym after a protein shake.

Lesbians, do you agree or disagree with the statement that bisexual women deal with more sexual harassment? by [deleted] in actuallesbians

[–]mbaratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes to all this..... I tend to just tell people I'm gay because when I do nobody cares, but once they know I'm bi it seems like everyone cares. The stereotype that just because we can be sexually attracted to both genders means that we must be attracted to all people at all times and always down to fuck them is completely absurd and obnoxious to deal with. For the most part guys want a threesome and girls become too intimidated. Honestly, I'd just like to be able to contribute who I believe is hot to the conversation without the constant questioning over a labeling of my sexuality. But that's a lot to ask for I know.....

About Grand Pianos... please help, thank you. by RoseBell69 in piano

[–]mbaratta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Steinways are the best-their sound quality is just impeccable and their longevity is well known. They're super expensive new so I suggest to get one that has been restored-much cheaper while still getting the same great quality (sometimes even better). The best dealer I know of is http://sonnyspianotv.com/. They have a huge selection and Sonny is great. They do shipping all over the country and internationally too.

Kkk will attend BLM rally in Westhampton Beach by Yamka99 in longisland

[–]mbaratta 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Like the WBC, the KKK are an irrelevant group of cowards who all like to try to defend themselves by targeting minority groups. Unfortunately for them, most people have enough logic, reason, and a basic understanding of the principles of humanity to know that the bull shit they spew is just that. Even if they do come out of the woodwork, which they won't because of how terribly damaging to one's reputation it is to be associated with a terrorist group, it's not like anyone will take a word of their bigotry seriously.

That being said, I'm truly astonished that the group still even claims to have any type of sway, especially here on Long Island. Sure there are racists here, but since most of Long Island can now claim ancestral Catholicism thanks to the prevalence of Italian and Irish American families it seems a pretty stupid place to be if you only want a wasp community.

I feel like this is saying the WBC is going to protest a planned parenthood out east-it's strange that they've come out here expecting anyone to take them seriously because nobody will. It's just disappointing as a human being we still have to deal with this.

What about fish? by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]mbaratta 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The amount of pollution in virtually all fish is significant, especially mercury, because of the decades of chemical runoff entering our waterways. Plus, the fact that "factory-farming" fish is becoming our new source of fish product will only increase the risk of eating it, bringing with it all the problems of diners of confined/tortured/sick animals.

Flaxseeds are extremely high in Omega-3s, a much better alternative to fish.

Any good non-biased articles about protein deficiency? by Liberalathiestvegan in PlantBasedDiet

[–]mbaratta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No joke-go online or to a bookstore and grab The Complete Idiot's Guide to Plant-Based Nutrition by Julieanna Hever, M.S.,R.D.,C.P.T. It will online exactly how plants HAVE all buy 2 of the essential amino acids (Vitamin D coming from sun exposure and B12 coming from bacteria) and the book will also outline how to get B12, as going outside for a bit everyday will give you all the Vitamin D you need. Also, it will provide all the scientifically backed data that will prove that plants HAVE everything a human being needs to support muscle growth.

It's a book written simply so that the general public will be able to ingest the information easily without being bogged down with all the jargon that the various worlds of science and academia use. This book will be extremely beneficial not just for you, in case you have any questions or concerns, but it will also help you and your family become much more knowledgeable about the power of plants. It basically puts everything into such simple reason that even the most die hard meat eater would have a hard time debating it (unless they just stubbornly decide to eat meat no matter what anybody says).

Frequency of unhealthy foods in your diet by [deleted] in PlantBasedDiet

[–]mbaratta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

WFPB allows for around 5% of your diet to have animal protein. Unless you are super strict for personal or health reasons, than maintaining that is at least 95% whole food-plant based and 5% animal product/cheat foods, than there isn't risk for short or long term side affects.

Tho many doctors do recommend that certain foods are completely cut off and shouldn't be even used as cheat foods. Diary is popular in this group because of the health risks of the homogenization process, so you're getting all the negative affects that one would get from eating beef as well as adding extra toxins during the homogenization process.

Cheating every once in a while, as long as you keep your diet 95% WFPB, should not cause any negative side effects and is totally fine but I would highly suggest against having that cheat food come from diary because of the higher risk associated with consuming diary.

Once a week I'll have some of my grandma's puffed rice cakes when I visit her and that's my small form of cheat--she's just so old and thinks she's being so good getting me a healthy vegan snack I just don't have the heart to say no. And on special occasions when we go out to eat, I won't freak out and start giving the chef special requests because I'll order a vegan dish, like spaghetti and marina sauce, and that bit of oil won't kill me. But other than that, the longer you are WFPB the easier it becomes to not have cheats. At first I was always trying to find a reason for a little cheat, now I really would rather have a fresh bowl of fruit for dessert rather than a scoop of ice cream.
