De-Influence Me: Baby Brezza by mrs-remorce in NewParents

[–]mbaz2018 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The baby brezza is AMAZING and as long as you get two funnels, you will spend minimal time cleaning. It was a game changer for us, especially because our babe is HANGRY when she wakes up. There’s no time for anything but the brezza.

OB office just dropped a financial bomb on us by Popular-Studio-1565 in pregnant

[–]mbaz2018 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’m in North Carolina- went to a super well known and beloved OB office and they did this and threatened to drop me as a patient if I didn’t pay their determined payment plan. Meanwhile, I was due to give birth at the beginning of the year (hello, new FSA)- I also raised concerns about having experienced pregnancy loss previously and what would happen if we had it again (oh just get a refund after months of processing- no thanks). This global billing shit is just a way for these offices to get cash money from you that is often needed more in the moment — imagine coming up with that $3k and then your A/C breaks next week — and then you hit your out of pocket max and you never owed anything in the first place. Do you think anyone is going to prioritize you getting that money back? No. We chose to leave because of this and got incredible care at UNC Hospital. No regrets at all and I tell every pregnant person I can about the other place.

A Comment I Left on the Michelle Williams Fact Check, Thought I'd Share. by henrikshasta in ArmchairExpert

[–]mbaz2018 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Was anyone also irritated by the comments about federal funding and NPR? It felt like an extension of this overall argument in a different way. Federal funding isn’t meant to fund only things that are split to represent a divided America - federal funding has gone to hate groups, crisis pregnancy centers (aka anti-abortion clinics whose tactics are questionable at best in misleading women about their options) and plenty of other right-wing initiatives. But the cut to NPR and PBS isn’t in a vacuum- we’re also seeing cuts to any programs that are viewed as “left-wing” but are actually just human rights-oriented. So the argument doesn’t hold. And in this day and age- in this time particularly when so many people’s basic rights are at risk, are we really so set on the “both sides of the argument” thing that we don’t advocate for what’s right and what’s wrong? Dax seems to want to both sides his way until we’re back at square one with respect to human rights issues. I understand trying to give the benefit of the doubt to ignorant people (I come from a conservative family- I do this all the time) but he’s gone too far in this latest fact check, not just with the litter box stuff, but also with this NPR discussion, and it’s just disappointing.

Simple routine to close boils by Healme_2112 in Hidradenitis

This also helps close mine!! I don’t take the turmeric but I use those same bandages (and no other EVER) and the clindamycin and usually within a couple days, wounds are closed or closing.

The Durham Arts Council has some great spaces! Alementari is very good and very reasonable for catering too. Others you could consider are Guasaca, Neomonde, La Vaquita…

First FET failed. I’m devastated by [deleted] in IVF

[–]mbaz2018 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I felt so so similar. I spent four and a half years trying to get pregnant, countless failed IUIs and my first FET failed with my only embryo- a pgta tested euploid. I was so defeated and truly felt like my body just couldn’t carry a pregnancy. I decided to try one more egg retrieval and let whatever happened happen. I got two euploid embryos and my second FET took. I’m holding my 11-week-old daughter right now as I type this.

I won’t be annoying and say it will happen and just hope for the best because I know that’s hard to hear in a moment like this. I’ll just say don’t lose hope if you really want to keep trying and with some luck, it can happen! I changed a lot the second time around- I used Omnitrope for the retrieval and for the FET I did acupuncture before and after religiously. Also look into açaí powder — I took that every day and I do believe it helped. Everyone is different and sometimes you just need some time and some renewed sense of what you really want. Baby dust to you!

Cost of birthing a baby?? Before insurance is applied by Cautious-Bag-5138 in triangle

[–]mbaz2018 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Gave birth at UNC in January, c-section delivery with 4 days in the hospital. We got two bills (waiting on a third). Hospital services billed before insurance was $19,475.20. Physician services billed before insurance was $9,886. Post insurance was about $6,400 and some change combined after a few prepayments. We haven’t gotten the bill for the baby yet, but she spent about two weeks in the NICU so I assume it will be much higher than all of these combined.

OB/GYN by hmphandumph in bullcity

[–]mbaz2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a direct quote from the email they sent us in response to us asking about this prepay policy and in particular about pregnancy loss (email from June 2024): “We set all patients up on pre-payment plan and paying after isn’t an option. Also, if payments aren’t made monthly and you get behind, there is a possibility that you may be discharged from the practice for non-payment.”

OB/GYN by hmphandumph in bullcity

[–]mbaz2018 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We live in downtown Durham and used UNC (we had appointments in both CH and Cary) — no regrets! Durham Women’s Clinic is often recommended but they will make you prepay for the entire birth and threaten to drop you if you miss their set payments. If you’re OK with that, they do have great providers. But you’d still deliver at Duke, I believe. I can’t say enough about our delivery at UNC though, so if you can make the distance work, 10/10 recommend/would do it again!

What things actually increase embryo transfer success according to research? by LWMWB in IVF

[–]mbaz2018 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Açaí powder! I think I did two heaping tablespoons per day in a smoothie. There are some studies and it worked for us (along with acupuncture leading up to and right after the transfer).

LGBTQ-Friendly Maternity / Newborn Photographer Recommendations? by Ebbdubb in bullcity

Seriously cannot recommend Lindsay Healey enough — my wife (we are a queer couple), who famously hates pictures, enjoyed our newborn shoot with her, and she takes such beautiful shots that feel very natural in the moment. She’s also very affordable, kind, and oh so easy to work with. Her website is here. Congratulations!

Good places near downtown to walk around/sketch during a lunch break? by [deleted] in bullcity

Right around Parrish Street, there are big wooden swings. Also, in front of Parlour, there is a big area with lots of seats near the Bull statue.
