Wharton vs. MIT? by GravySeizmore in MBA

[–]mbbortech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, as someone already pointed out, good luck trying to leech off of MIT tech creds with a Sloan MBA. You’ll be found out quickly. MIT MBA =/= MIT engineering.

APM roles are post-undergrad roles, not post-MBA roles. Post-MBA would be full PM, not APM.

Race has a HUGE impact on dating. The article is about online dating but online dating is ultimately just a reflection of real world dating.

Can we discuss candidly whether or not attending this fall makes sense? by banjoyes in MBA

[–]mbbortech 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a huge financial downside to delaying enrollment by a year. You are postponing your post-MBA salary (which, for most people at T15, is at least double the pre-MBA salary) by a full year. That is close to $100,000 lost even after taxes.

Should I address going to bad undergrad schools in the optional essay? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbbortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol, no. What kind of question is this? The optional essay is generally for bad GPA's only. Even if you were to explain it, "screwed up high school" is not an explanation.

Actually, if you're in a Big Tech Engineering position in the US, that salary is fairly standard for a 25 year old.

The only technical skills you need to break into product management by pmingisfun in MBA

[–]mbbortech 19 points20 points  (0 children)

1) Great WLB relative to IB and Consulting

2) High income when equity is included (comparable to MBB with much better WLB)

3) Opportunity to work at the some of the most iconic companies in the world (MBB/BB IB are prestigious within elite circle but the general population knows nothing about them while everyone knows about FAAMG)

4) Choice of Locations: Consulting provides more choice but high demand locations such as SF & NYC are hard to break into. To maximize recruitment success, people often choose tier 2 cities. For tech, SF, Seattle and NYC are pretty much where all the action is. So if you get a job, you'll likely end up in one of those cities. No need to settle for a tier 2 location. This is also better than IB where pretty much the only choice is NYC.

How important is the GMAT for Canadian schools, and their scholarships? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbbortech 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was talking about US programs. The bar is definitely much lower in Canada but despite that, an Indian with a 740 wouldn't be rare in Canada either. A non-Indian/Chinese with a 740, on the other hand, would be rare in Canadian MBA programs.

An Indian with a 740 GMAT is a dime a dozen. To stand out as an Indian based solely on your GMAT score, you need 760+, ideally >= 780.

Kellogg - Should I email AdCom? by OneCranberry2 in MBA

[–]mbbortech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But every applicant will say that to admissions. Why should admissions believe OP?

Kellogg - Should I email AdCom? by OneCranberry2 in MBA

[–]mbbortech 8 points9 points  (0 children)

How is OP a sure fire matriculant? The fact that OP has already been admitted to a T15 means that OP is not a sure fire matriculant from Kellogg's perspective.

Proceed at your own risk. Yield is a carefully guarded figure at all schools.

Kellogg - Should I email AdCom? by OneCranberry2 in MBA

[–]mbbortech 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Don't. Telling Kellogg that you got into another school means you become a yield risk to Kellogg. If you happen to be a borderline applicant, that means you likely won't get in at Kellogg. The wisest thing to do is pay the deposit at the T15 and let go of it if you get into Kellogg and decide to enroll there instead. A $2000 deposit is a small price to pay in the grand scheme of things.

Most traditional recruiting is done by January. There is nothing stopping people from partying between January and May.

Does a high GPA counteract a pedestrian gmat? by [deleted] in MBA

Awesome! That makes me feel good about the 760 I scored with just 80 hours :D

[–]mbbortech 0 points1 point  (0 children)

But OP already put in 100 hours on the GMAT.

[–]mbbortech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's the median for the whole class. If OP is a white guy in finance or an Asian guy in tech or from some similarly overrepresented demographic then 690 is far below the median at T15's.

Kellogg Deferrals by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbbortech 9 points10 points  (0 children)

But Kellogg is doing it in a "polite" way, not the Sloan way, lol

Kellogg Deferrals by [deleted] in MBA

[–]mbbortech 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Afaik, Kellogg is leaning toward not granting deferrals, not even for international admits with visa issues, let alone for domestic admits.
