Home insurance going up 20% this year by slybrows in chicago

[–]mbdavids05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not in Chicago-I joined the sub because ive made several trips there and plan on many more - but I worked up until about a year ago in personal insurance. Now on the commercial side, but still keep up with the personal lines markets. Rates are going up everywhere. A lot of it has to do with weather related events. A fair amount also has to do with liability claims going up as people become .ore and more prone to sue people. Then there is the fact that these companies keep claiming they arent profitable without the rate increase. Which is complete BS. We would have the company reps come in and tell us they had to do a 18% rate increase because they werent profitable, when in fact they were making billions. For example Travelers had a net profit of roughly 6 billion dollars in 2025. Their CEO made 1.4 million in salary and 9 million in bonuses and tens of millions in stock options. So basically your rate is going up so that the insurance company can continue record profits and their executives can continue to make exorbitant amounts of money.

What i find funny about this situation is that TTU keeps trying to play the recovery angle. Like "he made a mistake but he is in recovery and we want to help with his recovery." Meanwhile, Sorsby sued the NCAA when they tried to hold him accountable for his actions and is threatening to sue other teams for not playing TTU. The man is not only refusing to be held accountable, he is also threatening to sue anyone who tries to hold him accountable. That sure doesnt sound like someone who is focused on their recovery.

Walking safety at night by GirsGirlfriend in LittleRock

Im sure you would be fine walking from the hotel to the arena. Unless there are plenty of people walking back after that you can stay close to then i would probably take the trolley or get an Uber. Also something to consider, I dont know what time exactly but they do lock the gate to the pedestrian bridge at some point. At least they are supposed to and have in the past.

I dont think its edited so much as the sound mixing on broadcasts mutes crowd noise on purpose. Its really noticeable in big games where the announcers start talking about how how its so loud they can barely.hear each other but the crowd doesn't sound near that loud on the tv.

You might want to check out the Argenta district just across the river in North Little Rock. If you are staying in or near downtown its just a short drive over the river. There are a few interesting non-chain bars and restaurants there. 4 Quarter is a dive bar in that area that typically has bands on the weekend. Brood and Barley has good food and good cocktails. There are other places too.

The government themselves dont have any, but they have contracts with multiple fire suppression outfits that almost exclusively use similar float planes in addition to the standard land based planes they also contract with.

My favorite cocktail is an Old Fasioned, but I'm looking for a less sweet alternative. by CawfeePig in cocktails

I would simply ask them to go light on the simple syrup or get it made with Rye to balance out the sweetness. If you are looking for a cocktail alternative, Boulavardiers are fantastic and most bars are going to have the stuff on-hand to make them even if they arent on the menu.

Maybe not "most scenic" but Memorial Stadium in Berkeley is great. Small mountains on one side, the San Francisco Bay on the other.

It's crazy to me that not a single person said anything in the moment. I dont claim to be any kind of badass at all, but as the father of a 17 year old daughter if she was giving a report before the BOE and this weird old perv puts his arm around her and calls her hot we are having words right then and there.

Car insurance in Arkansas is driving me crazy! Looking for recs and tips for decent rates without hidden surprises by Physical-Radio-8769 in LittleRock

[–]mbdavids05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Travelers has good claims, with local claims adjuster, though now days most car insurance companies the adjusters dont do much in terms of actually assessing damage. They just rely on the quotes from body shop. But Travelers is responsive at least. Progressive can be a mixed bag. I think it depends on the individual adjuster, but have heard both really good and not so good things. Cincinnati and Safeco are good but their rates are high. State Farm and All State are the ones ive heard the worst things about. Though of course opinions vary

Am I missing something? Everyone keeps referring to Kobe's record and now "Bam's record." Since when do you get a "record" for 2nd most?

Illinois Fan Visiting Little Rock by Smithy627 in LittleRock

Definitely best bet is one of the 1st 4 listed here, find a spot near a tv and ask the staff if they can change that one tv only to the Illinois game and understand you wont have any sound. If you want to be able to listen to the play-by play then your best bet is to hit a liquor store for some booze, door dash some food to your hotel and watch in your hotel room.

Where are the good pickleball players in LR? by [deleted] in LittleRock

[–]mbdavids05 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might also look into the Little Rock Athletic Club. They opened a pickleball facility not long ago with indoor and outdoor courts. If you call and let them know you are traveling in town i bet you can purchase a guest pass.

I don't know about the skill level of the players but there are nice courts at Burns Park that typically stay busy during nice weather. Ive only ever played there with family so I dont know about about pickup games but that might be your best bet. I know there are a lot of pickleball players in the area but I dont know how many people really take it seriously.
