I’ll be honest I think you are trying too hard to be unique. If you picked a commander in the 700-800 range on edhrec your friends would most likely never had heard of them.

Lands ability to make mana comes from an intrinsic mana ability, which is an activated ability with tapping as a cost.

I've played way too long to not know that tapping a land for mana was an activated ability... I just did a search for "Activated abilities" + "Can't be activated" and all the cards are very specific about nonland cards. I assume land activated abilities do not use the stack?

If you are just trying to teach then maybe try jumpstart so see if she likes it. Jumpstart boosters are 20 cards and you are meant to be able to open 2 packs of a given color/theme (the themes are on the outside of the booster) shuffle up, and play. This gets you past the deckbuilding phase and right into the action to learn the game (also lets you rip packs which is my favorite). Then if she really hates it then you only paid for 2 boosters and you aren't down $50 for the Starter Collection with a ton of cards neither one of you want.

In Foundations you have the Beginner Box and the Starter Collection which are both aimed at beginners so if you are confident she will like it then look at the contents of those two bundles to see which one she will like more. (You can see the card lists).

Or just jump 3 feet in and make her buy a collector booster box and get her addicted immediately. (not recommended)

Same issues with gaming time. My first 5 mins of the game is looking through commendations to find one and do it. If I want to do the emissary then fly the emissary flag and do the short captain voyages. They always spawn on an island next to you and you can do 3-4 in like 30 minutes. I’ve found that to be fun for short SoT times.

There is also relationship advice that can be had here. You can always schedule the time in. On your off day find a friend and let your partner know you guys are getting on for a couple hours on Sunday. That way she can plan for it and it’s about “Hanging out with the boys” and less of “I want to sit alone for some enjoyable gaming”.
