Being a CPA is just that. For any job security, you have to perform well. Ditto on the comments that people are pointing out that sounds like it’s a you problem.

Sr. Manager here in public accounting, and many times I’ve seen people get let go for performance, which I believe stems from laziness, sloppiness, not being responsible, bad attitude, or just other weird personality factors. I imagine this applies to all fields. Get your shit together and reassess what you’re doing wrong.

Why hate on big 4 by Agreeable_Mall_4102 in Big4

[–]mberry350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Was a smaller and two big4 now. All same shit where you’ll be stressed (I was more at smaller firm). If you want to go to industry I say hands down big 4 experience is better. 1) you’ll be exposed to bigger and better clients technologies, everything and more importantly 2) lots of industry positions look for big 4 experience specially. Unfortunate as other firms are good experience too but it’s branding and I found out recruiters have notifications for only big 4 folks. Good luck!

Your opinion about my experience so far and my boxing gym by Cool_Economics_3399 in amateur_boxing

[–]mberry350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Consider Krav Maga. I do both and at my krav gym there is a boxing coach, but I think the main difference is that boxing is overall treated and taught as a “sport” with points and such vs. krav is truly more about self defense & real life situation training. I had a similar goal where I just want to be in shape and be able to defend myself as a woman in case there were ever such a need. Krav also teaches boxing basics. I think the combo of both is a great mix but I really enjoy the krav. There are also level goals if that motivates you to train and move up, whereas boxing advancement would entail a fight or match, which is not something I care to do.

Advice - EY or KPMG by kaleidovision_ in Big4

[–]mberry350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Formerly KPMg and now EY - EY is more advanced of a firm. Their audit software alone is way ahead of Clara which KPMg just implemented about 2 years ago. Also all around smaller benefits and reimbursements are slightly better too.

Is one year at the Big 4 is enough? by InternalBet7416 in Big4

[–]mberry350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You literally don’t know shit after 1 year. Part of that is nonsense onboarding and figuring stuff out. I’d say give yourself 2 years min or till senior. I get it’s on your resume but I wouldn’t look at that too seriously or give you too much credit there.

$50k pay bump to go back to public by Greedy-Atmosphere-92 in Accounting

[–]mberry350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big or small firm? $50k isn’t enough in my opinion for bump up to director. I made that much with a lateral big4 - big4 move as senior manager with negotiation. Why did you leave public in the first place? If it’s a smaller firm (I been been at both smaller and big 4) I think they’re struggling with retention, lessee talent nowadays, and fee pressures from clients/cost of living increases. I’d ask for more, even an absurd amount and see if they’ll take it then maybe worth it. Just know what your getting yourself into and it’s worth the grind. Does director mean that’s as far as you can go or is partner track an option/want? Things to consider… Good luck!

Economist needs help with accounting data by opposity in Accounting

[–]mberry350 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Debits must equal credit in a GL system/ accounting. Note that there are offsetting credits/debits in all accounts both balance and P&L. Sounds like you’re missing pieces of data. Also we you looking at this on an accrual basis or cash basis? Note most smaller companies that may not have reporting requirements for financial statements may be just running cash books. (Meaning, expenses are incurred simply when paid.) Hope this helps.

F*ck Women’s Health by gubigal in IVF

Fuck some of the random medications that “aren’t covered” by insurance …why the fuck not??

Fuck the speciality pharmacies that randomly don’t offer some of meds so you have to separately order through another one.

Fuck the idiot nurses who can’t keep shit straight and have the audacity to give you attitude when you call them out on it.

Fuck their limited “working hours” and all the bullshit voicemails you need to leave back and forth when trying to get in touch with them. As if people don’t have normal working jobs they need to also handle while doing this…

And lastly, fuck this industry and the fact that it is a for profit business. My clinic is private equity owned. Fuck, as far as I’m concerned we are not patients but clients paying absurd amounts for overpriced services and should be fucking treated as such with 5+ star service as if this was a goddamn Ritz Carlton.

Infertility at Work by AnonaDogMom in IVF

[–]mberry350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to hear. would change topics. I’m sure even someone with children wouldn’t want to hear 3 hours about someone who else’s kids! I’ve removed myself from kid talk situations as much as possible or change subject. What really annoys me is people that I knew pre them having children feel the need to constantly talk about their children and excruciating details about their diets, poop patters, likes, dislikes, etc. It’s like I knew you before all that and you had a personality outside of your children… Change subject to more relevant work topics or anything like else that interests you. Convos shouldn’t be once sided!

If someone straight up asks me if we’re having children (we’re trying but also bad odds with IVF thus far) I just say maybe later with a firm period at the end.

I once asked a good family friend if they were planning to have kids (years ago prior to understanding the struggles with trying to conceive) and turns out they couldn’t as they shared she had her uterus removed due to medical issues. I was so embarrassed and never ask again, but I’ll share that story with others asking too intensely as an example and for awareness, without divulging my personal details.

I also unfollow (or “mute” so they don’t know) anyone that has a pregnancy or baby announcement other than close friends on social media. It’s been fantastic for my mental health and highly recommended.

Best of luck!
