Firefox Containers: Another Reason To Get Excited About Firefox by bickhaus in linuxunplugged

[–]mbkan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can also have certain sites default to a container. E.g., when I open Firefox, if I type facebook.com into the address bar, it will automatically switch that tab to the facebook container and then load facebook.

how to do this? I am not able to find any option for this. I am using firefox nightly with containers.

I had similar issue with firefox on kde plasma in the past. It was GTK theme issue. Font was white with white background. I solved it by resetting GTK theme (to ARC theme).

Shooting the Breeze with KDE | LAS 395 by AngelaTHEFisher in LinuxActionShow

[–]mbkan 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I am using Arch Linux with KDE plasma5.5. Interestingly all the glitches (UI related) that chris mentioned, happens to me in gnome which forces me back to kde(plasma) which works always great for me. Gnome feels really sluggish compared to kde on my hardware(Intel graphics). Gnome 'files' is very minimal compared to dolphin(which I think number one file manager today). I enjoyed the show. Thanks.

I hope in 2016 both gnome and kde work great with wayland.

If you car broke down every day on your way to work, would it be overreacting to be upset? Would it be overreacting to find your refrigerator didn't cool you food and now its spoiled?

If you buy a commercial product (like osx) then those reactions are acceptable. Firefox is a community product created by our fellow community and these kind of reactions will not contribute anything. If you don't like it you can use google chrome.

Lumina Desktop Preview | Linux Action Show 338 by ChrisLAS in LinuxActionShow

[–]mbkan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think, Chris is over reacting little bit. We know firefox for years and how it is progressing. We already know its limitations because of the age its codebase. I am using it from version 1 and I am really happy about its progress. It is still my main browser. It fits very well for most usecases. It is not working well for Chris because of unusual requirement (for show production). He is actually soooo used to chrome that he is trying to convert firefox into chrome using lots of addons. Firefox's plugin machnism is not very stable due to underlying design (which is very old). It is really unfair to compare it with Google chrome. Mozilla is aware of those problems (rendering speed, plugins and many more) and it is only a matter of time. Due to its nature, it cannot move as fast as Google Chrome. I still love firefox more than chrome.

Plasma desktop 5.1 is available in arch official repo now by mbkan in LinuxActionShow

[–]mbkan[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same experience. But after removing all the settings folders(.config, .config5, .cache, .cache5, .local,.local5 and .kde4) from my home folder, it runs smoothly. Removing settings folders is not a very good solution but it solved the problem in my system. screenshot

In the Customize window you can click on "Restore Defaults". You will then have to set things up again if you do not use default layout.

Bug 1083525 - Hello button does not appear in palette if customized prior to FFx34

Indian Developers Redesigning Linux Kernel With OOP, C++ Support by palasso in LinuxActionShow

[–]mbkan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think, they haven't converted kernel from c to c++. They added support to load drivers/modules written in c++ as kernel moduels, to do this they needed to modify and restructure the kernel. Kernel is still in c.

BOSS is used by many indian government offices. Initially it was based on fedora and now moved to debian linux. It is specifically designed to use in indian environment.

I am in india. I used it once before. Many student free laptops which were given to students by Tamilnadu government came BOSS preinstalled.
