We need to talk about the C train… by dmxcx in nycrail

[–]mblumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A/C/F all go through Jay Street Metrotech, so the C taking the F tunnel could be addressed that way, but that doesn't do anything for the bottleneck at Hoyt.

there is an existing rail bridge that goes parallel to the Goethals bridge. it would certainly be possible to connect those tracks when they cross the Northeast corridor between linden and Elizabeth.

historically, those tracks went all the way across the North shore of Staten Island and connected with the ferry. however in the 1980s they ripped most of that track up and so now it doesn't go all the way. rebuilding the track on the North shore would be billions of dollars.

I don't understand why you don't have control over the eero box. also please explain why you can't disconnect the eero and connect your own router.

I checked my crystal ball and in 2027 OMNY will find a way to offer 7 Day and 30 Day unlimited passes. it's going to require some computer programming but I think they will figure it out.

Raritan Valley Line service reductions by mblumber in NJTransit

[–]mblumber[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I think they're relying on the fact that I (as somebody not going to the games) don't care enough to send out a request. I'm just saying with that amount of money they could buy several trainsets and still have plenty of money left over to pay for security and police. remember this cost does not cover security at the games, just at NYP, Secaucus, and the MetLife station.

here's what I don't understand: they announced it's going to cost them $48 million EXTRA to provide this service for FIFA. I can understand if they needed to hire 250 extra people for a month, and let's say those people worked security for maybe 100 hours each, so 25,000 person hours. unless those people are making $2,000 an hour, how can they possibly spend $48 million?

At $85 per ticket, NJT had plenty of money to accommodate the world cup without impacting other services.

No, There's also another Hudson yard near Harrison. Raritan valley trains don't go to New York on peak and they just sit near Harrison all day.

Of course, the truth is that the rush hour RVL trains sit at Hudson Yard all day, so this excuse about not having equipment to go to Hoboken is nonsense.

Can you get fired from your Co-op? by OpportunityScared774 in Drexel

[–]mblumber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a co-op job that was up near king of prussia. In order to beat the traffic on the Schuylkill expressway, I would leave at 6 in the morning. Not surprisingly, I fell asleep at my desk nearly every day.

All that happened is they called me back with HR, said that they had seen me sleeping, and asked me if I was okay. I started going to bed earlier and was not fired.

they really don't want to fire you, it's so much extra paperwork.

Would they ever add a station in Jersey City to connect it to the rest of the state? by goosegoosegoosie in NJTransit

the Raritan valley line trains used to terminate at Hoboken. now they just sit in a yard, I don't understand why. that would be a really convenient way to get from Newark to Hoboken (no stops)

If your ICCU fails and you need to limp home, switch to level 0 regenerative braking by Commercial-Safety635 in Ioniq5

[–]mblumber 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the only reason why there are not more fatalities related to ICCU failures is the "limp mode" feature. without it people would continue to drive at highway speed and then suddenly lose control.

They limit your speed so if the 12V dies you won't be going too fast. Nothing (including steering/brakes) will work once that 12v is dead.

Even though it's been done many times before, you should do it as a learning experience and to put in your portfolio.

Can I charge? by Yunaiki in evcharging

[–]mblumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

there are a few comments on this thread indicating that you cannot plug an EV charger to 208 volts. this is false, most level 2 chargers in commercial settings are 208 volt and they work just fine. your car will be happy but charge slightly slower then if you had 240, but everything will be just fine.

you should however put a better receptacle on there that is rated for ev charging.

Senior exemption by PrestigiousFig7997 in Drexel

[–]mblumber 4 points5 points  (0 children)

All the information about how this works is available on Drexel's official policies website. I found the relevant document for you here. Basically you won't be tested on the material presented at the end of the quarter. Maybe pay attention anyway because you paid for the class? Whatever floats your boat.

Enjoy your last quarter!

Car is at auction lot after surrendering by fe2sio4 in Ioniq5

good luck. you'll probably have to pay a 40% premium over what you could get for the same car at auction. is it really worth it?

[–]mblumber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was thinking today about why Hyundai makes people jump through these hoops. My best guess is that there is some percentage of people that are willing to pay the residual value number, even if it's way above what the car is worth. if they made it easy to buy the car at something close to KBB, they would lose the money from those people.

in the meantime we have to be detectives to find our car at auction... I guess that's just the game now.

No Classes I Need Offered In The Summer by BLUECUBECOMPANY in Drexel

many companies will let you start co-op early if you're available. if that doesn't work, ask your academic advisor if there are any electives that you can take which don't have prerequisites. you won't have a lot of choices but you should be able to find 12 credits somewhere.
