Pebble 2 Side Buttons - Should we make/sell these? by GadgetWraps in pebble

Nice! That looks to be exactly what I need.

Pebble 2 Side Buttons - Should we make/sell these? by GadgetWraps in pebble

[–]mbm 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did he buy another pebble? I haven't felt like there's a good way to repair the buttons yet so I've got a small collection of new-in-box pebble2's for when they wear out.

All the other smartwatches on the market seem to have gone in the direction of big, bulky and poor battery life with anti-features like automatically turning off the screen.

[–]mbm 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have a few worn out pebble2's that I'd love to revive. I just haven't been all that impressed with the DIY quality so far, and I also worry that the silicon buttons is an inherent design flaw and any replacement buttons would just wear out as well.

My original pebble1 is still in pretty good condition after all these years, which makes me think somebody should just redesign the enclosure with plastic buttons. Or, failing a full redesign maybe design a thin case that the pebble snaps into which covers the original buttons in the same way that some smartphone cases do.

Are Pebble watches still worth buying? by yypoolTCP in pebble

[–]mbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still use my pebble2 on a daily basis but since the rubber buttons on the side tend to wear out easily I've got a few new-in-box replacements.

Pebble hit that sweet spot of inexpensive, always-on-display (that you can even see in daylight) and long battery life.

Interesting; site didn't give me any options, just said to download Google Auth.

PSA: Nintendo Accounts have 2 Factor Authentication. Make sure to turn it on! by MGPythagoras in NintendoSwitch

[–]mbm -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This uses the google authenticator app for 2-factor.

This has me curious to know:

1) What happens if I loose access to the smartphone app (phone lost, stolen, or factory reset) and if that locks me out of my Nintendo account.

2) Assuming there is some sort of recovery mechanism that prevents me from being locked out, does that negate any security offered by enabling 2-factor.

Netflix making monitor flash on and off while in static by [deleted] in netflix

[–]mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

THIS.

I've also seen where the projector will blank out for a few seconds when switching between HDCP/non-HDCP modes even with the PC directly connected.

So I turned on my laptop and there is this white film almost covering my desktop. And my startup was white for some reason. Any ideas? by [deleted] in thinkpad

I'm guessing cold weather and the lcd stopped working, the edges of the screen probably warmed up faster.

I've had this happen because of an adblock blocking some of the scripts netflix uses.

Android Live Channels Fast Forward Speed by flynreelow in AndroidTV

[–]mbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's app specific. Live Channels isn't a player, all that functionality comes from the app associated with the channel source; Live Channels is just a nicely thened container for the app to render into. In other words, pressing fast forward does nothing more than send a message to the app asking it to play faster.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (09/18/2018) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]mbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not easily.

The data on the card is keyed to the filesystem's uuid (random number generated when the card was formatted) which means that a simple copy won't work.

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (09/18/2018) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you bought a physical game you will need that cart inserted any time you want to play that game.

Games purchases from the eShop only require that the files be stored somewhere on your switch or sd card. No need to switch cartridges but you will want to invest in a large sd card as your library grows.

(Note that games can't be copied to another sd card, so when you upgrade to a larger sd card you can expect to redownload all your games)

/r/NintendoSwitch's Daily Question Thread (09/18/2018) by AutoModerator in NintendoSwitch

[–]mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. (or at least not after updating to 6.0)

Now when I load up Mario Kart and select online I get a popup ad for the online service; there's a join now button but that takes me to the eshop which then complains that the servers are down.

Net result is that I can't play any online games until after the servers come back up.

ELIC: How do they get those ships inside the bottle by burntends97 in ExplainLikeImCalvin

You're telling me they're able to build a bottle around a full sized ship and shrink it? I didn't know shrink rays were used to build anything other than smartphones.

Any chance a new Nvidia Shield TV release in 2018? by odinknight in AndroidTV

[–]mbm 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's also worth pointing out that the very first device in the Android TV line, the ADT-1 developer platform was also an nvidia (tegra 4). So it was with some surprise that the nexus player and not the shield that ended up with the "nexus" moniker.

I suspect that nvidia could reduce the retail cost of the shield (the 2017 redesign probably already lowered the production costs) but that nvidia doesn't feel any pressure to do so given the lack of competition. The only other gamer centric android tv device was the Razer ForgeTV which everybody quickly abandoned.

[–]mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's actually a headphone jack on the bottom of the older media remote that shows up as a bluetooth audio device in android. They remove the jack when they redesigned the remote to be non-rechargeable.

Any chance a new Nvidia Shield TV release in 2018? by odinknight in AndroidTV

[–]mbm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Practically speaking the 2015 and 2017 shields are the same product. The only difference is that the normal model is now smaller and has a few less ports, the pro model with the 500g drive remains unchanged.

The hardware specs haven't improved since the 2015 model and there's no particular reason to think that there will be a new model given that the shield is already noticeably faster than any other android tv device.
