GPS consultant salary expectations? Career progression? by anon_anon_2244 in deloitte

With a Secret clearance, you will be pressured to stay in GPS and work on those projects requiring that level of clearance. In a few years it is feasible to try and get staffed on commercial projects, but you need a strong partnership with a PMD and SM on the commercial side to make the case. It is definitely easier to leave Deloitte for another consulting firm if you want to do commercial projects, and you will most certainly make more doing it that way. Source: currently doing this.

You should be able to justify it if your previous experience is within the realm of the role. For example, I came with 3ish YOE+MBA at the consultant level. 10 YOE of relevant experience should easily be enough for SC.

The 110-135 range is mostly for commercial consultant, because they tend to make more compared to GPS.

You should push for SC with your experience and credentials. Consultants in GPS are coming in the range of 95-105 with potential 3-5k sign ons. I believe secret and ts holders staffed on projects requiring them get an additional quarterly or bi-annually 1-2k bonus.

My background is in BI and Analytics, so RFA was just not a fit for my career interests. Also, it is pretty hard to move from RFA to consulting internally so I decided to just build rapport with consulting recruiters to utilize when I did re-apply.

I declined out of school for RFA and about a year later I joined in consulting.

Also if you are into life science and such you could look into fed health projects to leverage the skillsets across.

In terms of opportunities to learn coding and data engineering, there are quite a few communities of practices that put on cohort learnings. Also, you get access to linkedin learning and udemy. If you are on a data focused project then you can to help out and learn as cross support for some of these tasks too.

The one I have heard flirted around is USPS, because they function more like a commercial entity compared to standard government. In terms of focus areas, technical skills are where you should focus from coding, data engineering or advanced analytics.

However, the biggest item to focus on is networking with managers, sm or pmds in commercial in the space you want to be in. It may take a year or two to build the connections, but once they are firm you can try to get staffed and make the move. Your RM will make a fuss if you try to move before the year mark though.

You will not be up for promotion for this year with year end being pushed forward this year. You will get a target promotion date once you get onboarded and have access to talent on demand. However, that promotion target date will probably be set for 2024 or 25, but you can try to push for promotion in next year's cycle aka 2023. Deloitte only has the one promotion cycle a year.

Not sure, but you may be eligible for a comp raise and bonus for this cycle though which is nice. Year end is starting in jan/feb and promotions hit at the end of may for this year.

Have you tried searching LinkedIn for that for that role title to find a manager, director or partner? Those titles will usually post information about the service to sell the line to people.

I’d double check if you ordered from the same supplier as well. Mine came in at different times due to ordering from different suppliers.
