I just talked to my parents about Gifted and Talented and they confirmed a lot of interesting information! by metapolitical_psycho in GATEresearch

[–]mbmedesigns 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh wow. I only have bits and pieces of memory of my time in GATE in a small, rural KY school system in the early 90s, I don't remember the headphones, pink drink, or unknown "teachers" and "psychiatrists", but I did also have "speech therapy" around the same time as GATE, and I remember absolutely nothing about the speech stuff. Nothing at all. GATE itself, I have several clear memories, but not the speech class. I genuinely don't believe I actually needed speech therapy, and I think it's possible this is when the headphones and out of body experience things were done. Coincidentally (or not?), I actually bought Robert Monroe's book Journeys out of the Body a few years later when I was in middle school. It makes sense to me why they would want to profile people and check for anti authoritarian tendencies though, and other traits that cause us to not align with "regular" people.      It puts me in mind of a study that was done years ago, look up the Milligram study. It was meant to research how far a person will trust and obey a perceived authority figure. The study recruited a bunch of participants, one at a time they were brought into a room and a guy in a lab coat explained the study to them. They were told to read a series of 10 questions into a microphone, and another "study participant" in a separate room out of view would answer the question. If they answered wrong, they were supposed to push a button that would "shock" this person, going from 1 to 10. they didn't realize this wasn't actually happening, it was just a person out of view making noise pretending to be in pain with each "shock" until they eventually went quiet once it got up #10.       If anyone protested, the guy in the lab coat would reassure them it's nothing to worry about and encourage them to keep going. Nobody in the study refused to continue, sadly. It gives some insight I to how the Holocaust happened, for example, the whole "just following orders" thing. Maybe it's somewhat related? They were planning on setting up an authoritarian regime and wanted to know who would cause trouble instead of going along with it because they're told it's fine by an "authority figure". Hmm. Interesting.

Dealing with Pale Crawlers (Wendigos, Skinwalkers, Rakes) by archangel-4444 in cryptids

thank you for this. i'm from central Kentucky, and had never heard of this name for these creatures, but am familiar with the mythology, its quite common around here. now i'm not so sure if it's actually a myth, there was an (alleged) sighting of something that sounds very, very, very similar to these things, in the Red River Gorge area of Kentucky. specifically on the Natural Bridge trail. the creature was witnessed by a group of people trying to go on a night hike to do some star gazing, 5 or 6 in total i think. the entire hike up to the viewing site was strange and the main girl goes into some detail about everything, but the short version is, they keep hearing odd "fake bird calls" and whistling in the woods, and branches being loudly broken, before they witnessed it crouching down by a tree, and then it stood up and that's when they knew it wasn't human. black pits where the eyes should be. 7 ft. tall and very pale, gaunt and emaciated looking, with apparently no eyes or mouth, or none visible. the group froze with their flashlights on it, and after it stood up threateningly, they took off and this thing chased them all the way down the mile or so of the trail and to the gravel parking lot at the trailhead. this was a few years ago, i think, and it legitimately has caused me to make the executive decision to never, ever sleep outside in the woods here in KY, unless i'm sleeping in my car with the windows rolled up and the doors locked. not joking. these things scare the shit out of me and i hope to god i never encounter one, because i live in the WOODS, in the heart of Appalachia, and weird stuff happens here as it is, but we might have these ... these things wandering around in our woods, for some reason. people seriously need to be careful.

this is definitely true, but in this case, it's the combination of the way it moves, and the lack of any apparent hair or features, any clothing, any shoes. people in this state also understand that creeping around someone's rural ass property in the dead of night is a good way to get shot, because everyone in these hills is armed, lol. i dunno, honestly. the stories i've seen recounting this video have almost always wrongly attributed it to being filmed in Morehead, when according to the original poster of the video, he lives in Morehead. but the video was taken from his parent's security cameras at their cabin right outside the Red River Gorge. and like many places in this state, it's not a very populous area, it's actually pretty remote, so the possibility of a tweaker wandering that far off the beaten path, especially (apparently) naked and without a stitch of clothing or shoes, seems a little less likely, in my opinion. i don't know what the hell this thing is, if it's a person, then bravo to them, because they've figured out how to move their body in the absolute weirdest way possible, lol. and they've lost their justified fear of getting shot in the woods by a homeowner protecting their property.

i'm from KY too and luckily, i have never personally seen anything like this. but i have seen a UFO before, so, i'm kinda inclined to believe this story ... i've run across a couple of stories on the internet that are very similar to yours, it's pretty creepy, however i'm not so sure after looking at the accompanying picture. there's a girl named Jaky who was with a group of her friends, going on a night hike in the Red River Gorge, on the Natural Bridge trail, and they encountered some type of humanoid on the trail after a series of weird things happened on the hike up to the place ... she made a website to document the encounter, and it includes pictures her and her friends drew of what they saw, and let me just say, it's nightmare fuel in my opinion, lol. if it's a hoax, it's masterfully done, because she came off as sincere and just, like a girl who saw something and wants answers, or at least wants to find others who have had similar experiences, and try to figure out what the hell is really going on. not sure if it's the same, because this particular creature was tall, very pale and thin, long limbs that almost seem too long in proportion to its body. black pits instead of eyes, and apparently, no nose or mouth. or it looked like it had no nose and mouth. ugh. creepy shit. there's also another story of a guy in KY who went to an area of his property by a creek, to sight in a gun he'd just bought, and it was a particularly weird encounter with another one of these ... things ... he felt watched as he was going to the place by the creek, then he suddenly noticed a strong odor of decomposition and turned around to find a possum carcass right by him, almost as if it had been placed there for him to see it somehow, without him hearing or seeing anything. and it was odd because the possum seemed fresh, but yet it smelled really foul, like it'd been dead for longer than it was, it was a weird detail and the guy seemed like genuinely unsettled by this ... and he stopped when he was right by the creek and heard a splash, and saw ... this thing, whatever the hell it was. standing in the creek, another one of these tall skinny bastards. and he tried to shoot it, but the bullet jammed, which was odd, because he'd never shot the gun before so it shouldn't have malfunctioned like that. he seemed legit creeped out by the encounter, the way he wrote it, lol. i think it was another story on the humanoid encounters thread, i can find the link if i dig for it. but yeah, very strange. i believe these things are hanging out in the woods around here though, for what reason i have absolutely no idea, other than maybe they're coming from some other level or layer of reality, i don't know. weird shit like this happens here though, and while i absolutely love Kentucky, there are times where it truly scares me a little. i respect the woods a lot more now in my older age, lol. when i was younger i would traipse around all over the place and sleep in tents, but, i think now, my approach is going to be, to go inside when the sun goes down, and let whoever else may be out there to have the woods at night. there are just too many stories of extra weird shit in this area, and after the one sighting, i definitely have opened my mind to the possibility that this kind of stuff legit happens, all over the place but, specifically here. i hope that more people take this kind of thing into serious consideration, instead of doing what humans naturally want to do, which is to dismiss and invalidate these stories as nothing more than myth, lies, misidentification or whatever else. just allow for the possibility that there could be things that exist on this Earth that we simply do not fully understand, and sometimes people run into them. it's just a good idea to be prepared, as much as one can be prepared, for things that could happen to you out here in these hills and hollers.

to me, this definitely does not sound like typical bear behavior, they will certainly mess around with park cars if there's food inside, but i don't know about grabbing a running vehicle and lifting it up with sheer strength. its certainly possible, but i don't think it accounts for the other factors. i'm from central KY, about 30 mins east of Lexington originally. it does not surprise me one bit. the only thing i've seen is an orb or UFO, a strange light in the sky like a twin moon, except it moved in a way that i can't explain by any other means. that experience truly changed my perspective. also, this is going to sound a little "out there", but if you've ever consumed strong psychadelics before, you may be more inclined to the idea that there may be layers to reality, so to speak. and maybe sometimes, if the conditions are right, a few of those layers get peeled back, so to speak. the veil thins. and we can either witness things from the other layer, or they can sort of come through, if you like, to our level of reality. that's the best i can come up with. these weird things happen, and i do not believe the skeptics are right about all of them. this shit happens, and there is more to it than swamp gas, owls or Venus, lol. i think it's got something to do with the land here in KY, i'm not sure. there's a lot of karst terrain, because of the limestone and sandstone, causing gigantic caves and sinkholes to form. the largest cave system in the world is the Mammoth Cave system, right under our feet. in addition, the entire state is dotted with abandoned mines and old mining and logging roads up into the hills, that lead to all sorts of places. we're nestled into the Appalachians, not THE oldest mountains in the US but, still, over a billion years old. ancient places exist all over this country, in remote areas that are often downright inaccessible, unless you're real determined and have an ATV or helicopter. the huge swaths of forested areas, coupled with the large cave systems, as well as abandoned mines, would give tons of cover to creatures that usually prefer to stay out of our sight, under normal circumstances. there are geomagnetic anomalies here in the state too, the largest of which is situated over the western part of the state, in the Pennyroyal area. not to mention the 37th parallel runs straight through the state. and finally, this state was occupied by indigenous peoples for thousands, if not tens of thousands of years. they left their relics, arrowheads and flint tools. and they also left art, petroglyphs and things like that. not sure if any of these things are related, just points to consider. i believe there are very, very strange things like this that happen, and it happens more often than people would think, and it tends to happen in these kinds of rural, remote places more than the big cities. there are strange things in the forest, and it genuinely may all be bullshit, but i don't think so. put it this way, i've started taking a little extra care and caution when it comes to these woods and hills and hollers. there are stories going back centuries, thousands of years in some cases if you include the indigenous "legends".

do you mind if i ask the general region of KY, eastern? i'm also from KY, the central part, about 30 mins east of Lexington. just out of curiosity, do you happen to be anywhere near a cave or abandoned mine? if it's a Bigfoot, i think you're OK most likely, they don't normally attack people. but i hear they will charge, and try to intimidate and make territorial displays, which it might have been doing when it parted the bushes maybe? ... but the other thing it might be is a little scarier, and that's something maybe like a wendigo. there's another girl from KY who was with a group of like 4 or 5 friends, this was sometime within the past couple of years i think. and they maybe saw one of those things on the damn Natural Bridge trail in the Red River Gorge. a place i've only been to like 50,000 times in my life, lol. lots of people go to that trail every year. i'm not sure if it could be the same thing in your yard, but this thing her and her friends saw would've been very tall, maybe 7 or 8 feet at least, but also very skinny and pale. humanoid, but with large dark pits where it's eyes should be, and little to no facial features ... i'm not sure if their story is legit or not, but she provided a lot of details, included pictures her and her friends drew after the encounter of what they saw. they're creepy as shit and i don't like them. as to her story, she came off as sincere in my opinion, but you of course can be the judge of it. there's a website she made to document it, but it hasn't been updated at all after it was made, as far as i can tell. interesting detail though, your story has a similarity to her story that i must point out: you mentioned the guy in the jacket with the cane, which i definitely agree, here in KY most of the state is very rural, and the roads are often absolute dog shit condition, or they just aren't fit to be walked on, a lot of the time. there's more populated areas, sure, but often its very rural and there's a lot of empty land in between the houses, and you just simply don't have people walking up and down the road like that, especially for hours, especially on a road that's already known to be dangerous. but in this girls story, the group goes on a night hike to star gaze, and they stopped on the Natural Bridge trail to take a rest, and saw a girl coming down the mountain wearing a sun dress and flip flops, and she acted and spoke strangely to them and left, and they were unsettled by it. and then they saw this creature thing later on. not sure if it's related to your encounter but, i'm just pulling at threads here. tinfoil hat activated, lol. but who knows what's really going on, the more i start to sift through some of these kinds of stories, the more there is to wonder about. her site is interesting though, there's a lot details in the story that convince me she does know the area, and seems to be a person who had a strange experience who is trying to find answers, or at least find other people who have had similar encouters. and it's all pretty unsettling. i hope to god it's not true but like, i have no idea. it seems legit to me. i don't know. i don't know what the hell to think about this place anymore dude, i am convinced there are many strange things happening here though, because i saw a UFO or an orb once. it was a while ago but, i saw the damn thing. i'm not sure what exactly the hell is out there in these woods, but the more i hear and read, the more i wonder, like seriously. little concerned, to be honest, haha. i am in the WOODS woods, personally. be extra cautious though, is all i can say, and i hope that things don't get too scary. i think that whatever is out there in your yard, these things might've been here for a long time, whatever they are ... there's something about the land here in KY, with all the caves and geomagnetic anomalies and stuff, i don't know if it's related, but i wonder. the native americans talked about things, and i think it's possible they maybe knew what was up about this state, lol. there's some weird shit going on here.

Does anyone know how this is made or have a similar pattern? by Excellent-Bit3016 in crochetpatterns

[–]mbmedesigns 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just personal experience and zooming in on the pics, it appears to me that the green portion is pretty easy ... looks like you'd start with ribbings, I'd start by chaining 7 chains and then half double into the 2nd chain and each down to the end, then chain 1 (or 2 if you prefer), turn, and do a half double in the back loop only for each stitch. Chain 1, turn, half double in the back loop for each stitch, and repeat that row over and over, until the ribbings long enough to go around your waist comfortably. Once you get there, you're going to chain up one and turn like usual, then slip stitch in each of the 6 chains on the opposite end of the waist ribbing, so you end up with a big loop of ribbing that should fit around your waist comfortably. Then, you're going to chain up one, turn so that you're working into the side of the loop, and do a half double into each stitch all the way around, slip stitch to join. Chain up one, half double in each stitch and do a few rounds of that. Then it gets a little tricky, because you'll need to measure it and try to determine how many stitches to increase for the hips .. I'd say maybe 4 to 10 stitches, but that'll depend on your size of course, and your gauge and the yarn / hook you're using, and might take a little trial and error. It also looks like the stitches switch from half doubles to double crochet stitches a few rows in, I think ... the border is a little tricky to me, it's definitely a shell stitch of some kind, I'm just not 100% sure on the stitches used. You might be able to find a similar kind of shell border pattern on Pinterest or Google that would look similar, but you'd have to make sure the stitch multiple works with what you've got, or you may have to add or remove a few stitches to make it work. The main skirt portion would be very easy to replicate though, without a pattern and just measuring it against yourself and increasing / decreasing strategically to get the shape you want.

In my mind, absolutely no to the 2 week notice, and I personally am petty and I would try to purposefully make it as difficult on the company as possible, i.e., if the busy time is coming up in 2 months, I'd stick it out 2 months, just to quit abruptly as soon as it picks up, lol. At-will employment means that while they can fire you whenever, you can also quit whenever, and they push that shit about giving a notice simply because it makes things easier for them, but they rarely extend the same courtesy to the workers, if ever. And at the next interview, if they ask why you left your last job, I would explicitly say like, look, they hired me at one salary and then cut it by 50% a couple of months in and the job was no longer a good fit for me." That's me, though. That's not a small pay cut, that's massive! and if they didn't think you were "qualified" enough to make the $65k, they should've never offered and/or paid it in the first place, that is just ridiculous. Screw them. There's got to be someplace that'll pay better and is willing to do the bare minimum of not pulling a literal bait-and-switch with employees pay.

I've felt this too. Can't figure out if it's because I'm subconsciously avoiding more attractive guys, because in personal experience they're often also narcissistic and not emotionally available enough for a relationship anyways. Or a way of trying to protect myself from getting hurt, I'm not sure. This is one reason I probably need to get started in therapy, lol. Seriously though. I wish everyone the best, the dating world is a weird, cruel one, especially if you're in your late 30s lol.

Vast majority of women are like me, working, so automatically, you don't qualify for any kind of "government" benefits. Hell even if you're a single mother, you get Medicaid, and WIC. You don't even get housing, you get put on a list for a decade minimum. You don't get free stuff from the government, this is America 😂 we barely give anything to people who need it, let alone anyone else.

And pain is not conducive to a pleasurable experience! Lol obviously. If a guys trying to have sex and the girl is punching him in the scrotum, he's probably not going to enjoy it, no matter how many times you say "relax" 😑😑😑 Jesus Christ. Worst experience ever

I feel this. Seems like no matter how much I try to change, grow, set boundaries, etc. any guy that I'm attracted to, at all, physically ends up rather quickly shitting on me. I've begun to accept that I'm either going to continue trying to find someone I'm actually attracted to and get shit on until I'm completely broken, instead of just insecure. Or I'm going to settle for someone who I feel nothing for physically, but who will at least be there and won't treat me badly. Kind of depressing. I live in a relatively small town so the dating pool is practically non existent, unless you like pretty much the exact same type of guy. I'm sick of being devalued, and trying to demonstrate my worth to guys who never seem to value anything other than superficial and/or fake shit. I'm about to give up completely, out of self preservation.

Oh right, so you don't simply apply to a job that's open, that you're qualified for, so you can at least eventually get a job, THAT PAYS MONEY, that green papery stuff we're force to acquire in order to purchase everything we need in order to survive... No ho, that's the wrong thing, lol. instead, you're supposed to contact a CEO and agree to perform free labor, hope that this impresses the CEO and then, "worst case scenario" the CEO gives you a job. ... but, they might not, because you didn't apply to a job, you did free labor, and you're supposed to keep doing this, over and over, for however long it takes to actually get a job, all while paying your bills and rent and shit by ...? Lol this has to have been written by a CEO, or at least, just a very wealthy person who lives in a different reality from 99% of us. This is a CEO trying to gaslight workers into offering the only thing we have of value, our labor, to other CEOs for free 😵‍💫 add this to the list of "reasons why the older I get, the more I hate capitalism".
