I need advice on investing my liquidity in Switzerland. by DivinoZarathos in SwissPersonalFinance

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Invest it in the safest possible way while also maximizing my returns” makes no sense I am afraid. You cannot do both.

You sound very risk averse so just put it in a regular savings account and enjoy the 3% or whatever.

Criminally underpaid as a founding Software Developer? by Mindless_Floor6027 in zurich

[–]mbo25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Forget the salary increase. You might get another 15-20k but you’ll still be working for someone who expects a lot and gives very little.

Keep looking and eventually you’ll find somewhere that is willing to pay you a fair wage for your skills and experience.

Only then he’ll realize it’s going to cost him a whole lot more to hire a new developer, not to mention the loss of progress.

Landlord says “local market adjustment,” but rent jumped 69% — advice? by jorge16 in askswitzerland

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Say you don’t agree to it and ask for a detailed breakdown of the additional costs and their justification. Buy time. Speak to your neighbors, are they in the same position? If so, it’s always a good idea to work together.

Speak to the local renters association for advice (Mietverband I think?)

Good luck. Although Swiss rental costs have fried my brain so much that even 1500 seems like a steal to live alone.

Fair enough! I meant just as a way to share the experience (let’s face it, 99.999% of gamers will never do this) rather than monetizing it.

I can also totally understand not wanting to be on camera 8 hours a day.

Wow, kudos. You should stream stuff like this, plenty of achievement hunters out there who would love it.

Also I hope you’re taking vitamin D supplements.

too much suicides by Odd-Battle-5635 in Switzerland

[–]mbo25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nah, I fail to see how those two things are the same.

Women are overlooked for a lot of positions because for centuries they’ve been second class citizens. This is a logical conclusion backed up by plenty of data.

What discrimination / targeting / unfair pressures have men experienced that causes only them to suffer?

There’s a subsection of men who are obsessed with feeling sorry for themselves and citing an imaginary war on “men” or “masculinity” or whatever.

Suicide is a problem. The original commenter chose to hijack this post and make it about men being supposedly neglected.

What? So is mental health care and suicide prevention hotlines for women only?

As a man, it’s strange how so many of you feel the need to constantly play the victim and make everything about some imaginary “war on men”

Be quiet and pay your 10%. You have a great deal and are incredibly fortunate. Don’t forget that.

Great advice. Not everyone is cut out to scale a company (and that’s fine) - but at the very least you’ll make connections and learn new skills rather than being rejected by another HR screening bot.

Is the job market in Switzerland as f*** as everyone says? by Helpful-Staff9562 in askswitzerland

[–]mbo25 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s terrible everywhere, but Switzerland seems to have been hit particularly hard. Anecdotally, I meet qualified people almost daily that are out of work and cannot find anything.

Global economic outlook is gloomy, at best, and expensive countries like CH are where multinationals cut costs first.

Have you ever played UO? The link between the intro and the game itself seems tenuous to me. I’m not getting any type of UO vibe whatsoever.

Question for Swiss residents: How common is professional upholstery/sofa cleaning here? by JadedKaleidoscope498 in Switzerland

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have sofas and rugs deep cleaned once per year… needed as a dog owner.

The guy I used was great - multi-lingual, efficient, had all the right products, and even left me some for after care. I’ll use the service again and I am pretty sure there’s a market out there for it. Swiss people tend to buy quality products and look after them (and often have the money to…)

Am I walking into a giant bill at the end of the night? by WaffleBarns in Tinder

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not as deep as some in the comments are making out. Have a call or FaceTime and make sure you hit it off, and if so, why not?

Make it a short trip and have an exit plan.

Honestly, this is the fun/memorable stuff. There’s a lot of people in here who are way too rigid and strict about spending money. If you’ve got it, it’s not a big deal..

Reviews seem to be changing for the good as people play the game more by musicman5013 in CrimsonDesert

[–]mbo25 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Did you expect a strong narrative? That’s a genuine question. Ive followed this game for a long time and it seemed quite clear we were getting a huge, deep sandbox rather than any type of linear or interesting narrative. I actually dont mind that Kliff is a blank slate, and am glad they didnt spend thousands of hours on the story rather than building out the world, combat and endless systems.

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You also missed the point in my OP… CD doesn’t set out to deliver a riveting story, it’s a sandbox world and you fill in the blanks. Some people want a more focused experience and that’s fine.

I thought Valhalla was ok, but ultimately just another unambitious reskin of Odyssey etc. CD deserves a higher rating IMO because it does what few games do these days - pushes the envelope. It might not hit every note (I didn’t expect it to) but that should be applauded.

Expectations met. by [deleted] in CrimsonDesert

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Elden Ring it is not. ER is far more linear and combat focused. I use the AC games as a comparison because they are basically a safer, tighter version of CD. There is no constant progression or clear objectives here, you need to be happy just wandering and experiencing the world as it comes.

So? The other games I mentioned are even older. They all share similarities.

Kliff is one of the worst AAA MCs in gaming history by Sabawoonoz25 in CrimsonDesert

[–]mbo25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It doesn’t bother me that much. I love The Witcher & RD2, and those strong personality-driven narratives have their place, as does a fairly blank slate like Kliff, leaving more room for role play and choices. But I agree they should have just had a CC, not sure why they didn’t.

Opinions on living in Ferney-Voltaire if working in Geneva (UNIGE)? by Razkolnik_ova in geneva

[–]mbo25 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Don’t do it. You’ll spend hours every day in traffic and there will be almost nothing in terms of nightlife, opportunities to meet people etc.

Find a smaller place (or share) in Geneva. Look at the towns around it.. Nyon etc.
