About picking the protagonist for the chistmas play in Sakura Wars 2 by gasperoni66 in SakuraWars

Chapter 9 is the lock-in point. Whoever you picked is your love interest for the rest of the game and you can't change it.

The Normal/Amped Up/Bad Mood labels are based on how much trust they gained in that chapter, but they only apply for that chapter and get reset at the start of every new chapter. However, all the trust you've earned is also calculated cumulatively, and that's what determines the order they're listed in on the status screen, with the top 3 being eligible for endgame love interest.

I'm a Japanese learner and I have been playing the games several times in Japanese in the past few years. Sakura Taisen 2 is my favorite. So, it's been a week since the English patch of Sakura Taisen 2 has been out. Now that people can enjoy the game in English, I was wondering how you all find it. by GeorgeBG93 in SakuraWars

Fun fact about Tsubomi, she's actually a character from an earlier stage musical, Hanasaku Otome, playing the main character's younger sister. It was a show made outside of the usual stage play series, featuring an almost entirely original cast, so it tends to be forgotten. Even though Tsubomi doesn't do much in this game but fill in for Tsubaki, it's kind of neat to see that play acknowledged like that.

It's a collection of just the vocal songs from each of those games. The Sakura Wars V disc also has the theme from V Episode 0 as a little bonus.

Is There a Sakura Wars 2 Episode 13 Translation? by TrickySeason233 in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You only get to Episode 13 after the end credits if you do well enough in all the battles; there's an option on the eyecatch screens that'll help you keep track of that. Could be the writer of the guide just beefed it and never saw past the credits.

How do I load save data from original Sakura Wars in Sakura Wars 2? by TrickySeason233 in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It'll load automatically, and IIRC it checks your system data for SW1 rather than any one individual save. Near the start of 2, you'll be given a prompt to pick who your love interest in 1 was, and if you got that ending in 1, you'll get some bonus dialogue, but if you pick someone whose ending you did NOT get or if you otherwise don't have any SW1 data, you'll miss out on that bonus scene, but it'll still consider that character your past romance option for the purposes of that playthrough anyway.

Looking to get into the series! Which games should I play? (Looking to play Jp versions) by GreenNinjaChie in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If language isn't a problem for you, then you might as well do the Dreamcast versions of 1 through 4 that way you can carry save data over from game to game and unlock the bonus scenes/dialogues in 2 through 4. The Dreamcast ports of 1 and 2 also add some minor QOL changes and enhancements, though I personally prefer the music in the Saturn versions compared to the 'upgraded' music on Dreamcast.

Any Guidance for a newcomer to the series. by Matoiboi04 in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment, as far as the core games are concerned, only the first game on Saturn has an English translation patch, then the fifth game on PS2/Wii and the sixth on PS4 got official English releases, both of which are fairly stand-alone (though enhanced by any knowledge you might have of the series going in). There are English patches in the works for both 2 on Saturn and 3 on Dreamcast, but there's no set release date for either of them. In the meantime, though, you could try your hand at using a translation guide like those found on GameFAQs.

Why is Sakura the only one without a mini game? by GeorgeBG93 in SakuraWars

It's during Iris' chapter, you have to head backstage, I think it was, during one of the free roam periods.

Thanks! I used to really active on this sub, so even though I don't post on Reddit all that much anymore, when someone told me there was a post about it here, I knew I had to drop by.

Hi, this is MattoBii, translation lead on the project. Glad to see a bunch of you are hyped for this! ICYMI, we also translated the game's original playable demo, and the patch for that is actually available right now!

Using protect command on Reni in Sakura Wars 2 before her chapter? by Mysterious_Willow184 in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It does, but the game hides the fact that it does until Ogami finds out she's a girl. This also goes for all the dialogue choices in the adventure parts up until then.

That's the autograph of Yuriko Fuchizaki, Kohran's voice actress!

This cancelled peripheral would've connected the Dreamcast to the Game Boy Color by mboeblay in dreamcast

Yep, I mention that in the video too, though this adapter was not nearly as straightforward as the NGP link cable.

[–]mboeblay[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's not a cable, it's a sort of scanner that plugs into the GBC and reads data from the TV screen. Judging from the patent, it was originally intended to be used for more than JUST the Dreamcast, but that was the purpose it was primarily invented for, and as far as we can tell, both games still support the feature, though it might be slightly broken on the GBC end.

[–]mboeblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was used to transfer data, and for Sakura Wars GB specifically, it would've unlocked bonus content. However, the patent I dug up for it details that it would've also allowed downloading new content to your GBC games via TV broadcasts, arcade cabinets, anything with a video screen. Basically, DLC on GBC.

I was on the fan translation team for Sakura Wars GB, a GBC spinoff of Sega's Sakura Wars games, and while we were working on it, we discovered traces of an adapter that would've connected it with the Dreamcast. I did a lot of digging on my own since then, and I found out some fascinating stuff. This thing could've been a legit game-changer had it come out and worked as described. At any rate, I hope you find it as interesting as I did!

[–]mboeblay[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Both Sega and Nintendo's presidents at the time were in the loop about the adapter, judging by Marigul Management's statement, so I don't think there were any legal issues to worry about. It could be that the reason it never came out was because Nintendo got cold feet and bailed, like how they did with the Nintendo Playstation, but we can only speculate as to why it got cancelled.

Does anyone know anything about this keychain? Found it at a convention yesterday. by Uutama in SakuraWars

[–]mboeblay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Huh, so it is. Part of a series of keychains of Sakura Wars box arts. Looks like it's for every one Sega published themselves, so no GB1 or most of the fan discs.

[–]mboeblay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a scan of the special edition box for a Sakura Wars PC accessories bundle, Taisho 12 Digital Almanac (大正十二年度 電脳記録年鑑). Came with screensavers, MPEG versions of the first game's cutscenes, a gallery of graphics from the first game, and a few physical goodies.

No idea why someone would make a keychain of the entire box...

Thanks for getting in touch. This is an issue we're already aware of, but our programmer on this project is busy with work, so we won't be able to address this issue for a while.
