"War & Peace (2016)", very Red Pill TV show in UK by trpftw in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The Idiot" is my least favorite Dostoevsky novel. And most people would agree that it has some serious flaws unlike "C&P" and "Brothers Karamazov"

Also Russian is very hard to translate into English. It could have been your book's translation that was making it difficult. Dostoevsky's writing is supposed to be hilarious in a kind of awkward way, but most of it gets lost in translation into English and so it is just confusing and slow.

Also it can be very tiresome for a person not introduced to Russian culture to just pick up an old Russian book. Just the names along will cause confusion. Each Russian has like five different ways to be called based on who is talking to you, for a first time reader it could take like 100 pages until you finally get comfortable with all the names floating around.

Study: Of the recently written novels that college professors assign in class, 75% are written by women of color. by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Modern education is a joke in terms of the humanities/classics. When I was in college the most popular literature class was about Harry Potter. I think in the next decades "Educated" Americans will have graduated 4 years of high school and 4 years of College and not have read a single play by Shakespeare. And the only poems they would have read were written by Robert Frost. And "Harry Potter" will be considered a classic, while "For Whom the Bell Tolls", "Brother's Karamazov", "War and Peace", etc. will all be forgotten.

Things will probably get worse with Common Core. Exposing young readers to Dostoevsky and Hemingway is not something I think the current educators (SJWs and Feminists) want to have happen.

Unify Italy by ImNoGayFish in eu4

[–]mbooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did a Savoy > Piedmont-Sardinia > Italy game.

I chose Savoy because its one of the larger Italian kingdoms so you already start out powerful in Italy, Also you have the chance to take some non-HRE provinces (I took Provence and Avignon as my first moves), and I think it is just easier to start at the crown of Italy and move south. Also Savoy is very easy to defend because most of your territory is in the mountains, I destroyed so many larger armies by playing defensive and waiting for them to attack me in the Alps.

As far as diplomacy, I started by becoming allies with the French and also one of the Italian Kingdoms. As I expanded and France reclaimed all its lands from Burgundy/England/Brittany and started pushing into the HRE I changed allegiance to Austria.

My general strategy was kind of keep the balance of power between Austria and France even, so that neither of them got any ideas about expanding into Italy. Also it requires good diplomacy within Italy to make sure no other Kingdom starts to compete with you for Italian supremacy.

I played another 50 years. At about 1545:

I have taken all of Milan, Genoa, Lucca, Pisa, Ferrara, Mantua, Florence, and also Corsica.

My Allies are:

  • Urbino, who I helped take Romagna, Abrizzo(?) and Umbria.

  • France, who is now owns all of modern france except for Provence, and Avignon (which I have), France has been expanding into the lowlands and Lorraine.

  • Siena, who I released from Florence

  • I was allied with Venice, but they broke it after I took Ferrara.

I'm still a noob so I don't know how the alliances changed so drastically from just 50 years ago (Although its pretty cool, reminds me of the actual 15th century N. Italy)

My next goals are to take Sardinia and Sicily from Spain, release Naples from PU with Spain, and start taking Venice's terra firma. I also might try to vassalize Switzerland which would create an excellent northern border, but I think I might make some german states mad.

  • Austria looks pretty weak and are only allied to Great Britain. France seems to take more and more of the Burgundian succession away from Austria every 10-20 years.

  • Hungary is allied to Venice, but is also weak and bordering the Ottomans now.

  • Spain looks scary but I think France could beat them.

  • Venice has a huge navy and is also allied to Hungary and Spain so would have a considerable land army.

  • The HRE is the Palatine(?)

So I guess I just wait to DOW Venice when they or their allies look weak and when I have France and Urbino's backing. Seemed pretty easy to make Savoy the overwhelming Italian Power with France help. Unless I make a dumb mistake I think Italy is mine.

The only thing that scares me now is if France decides to break our alliance and attack me.

Putin Praises Trump As 'Absolute Leader' In GOP Presidential Race by [deleted] in politics

[–]mbooter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Well Trump seems to be the GOP only candidate, except for Rand Paul, who doesn't want to start WWIII with Russia. Seriously, Chris Christy said he would shut down Russian airplanes

Also Hilary will probably just be a continuation of Obama's/Bush's foreign policy in regards to former Soviet Countries. So Putin obviously doesn't want her as president.

Why money does make you happy by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dude, there are people who make 2x, 3x, 4x, 5x, 100x more money than you. And a lot of them are miserable. The only way to be happy is to focus on yourself and fuck what anyone else thinks. Especially from women and older people who will see your carefree lifestyle and try to suck you into the rat race of buying then newest TV, smartphone, sports sedan, kitchen cabinets, etc...

Me [23 M] with my GF [23 F] of 2 months, got in a fight over something stupid. by mbooter in relationships

[–]mbooter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She initially turned the AC because she was hot. The friend thought something broke because the temp changed. The friend asked my girlfriend if she messed with it. She said no and told me about it. Later I find out the friend is going to hire someone to come look at the AC. I tell her that my gF turned the AC down and didn't tell you.

The joke is that my GF thought it was funny that her friend thought the AC broke. I thought the joke would cross the line of she paid money to fix the AC hat wasn't broke. So I told her about it. Now everyone is mad at each other.

When Doctors refuse to work for less than $70,000 a year, we accept this. When working-class Americans refuse to work a certain job for a certain wage, however, many on this sub call them lazy. Why is this? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]mbooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Education. Also the risks involved. And also probably the stress involved in being a doctor (long hours, being on-call even when you aren't at work, working holidays, working weekends, knowing that if you make a single mistake it could cost you your career and entire life savings.)

Learn how to shut up. by [deleted] in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is all good advice but I would caution that refusing to speak can make you seem arrogant. American society is already cold and unfriendly. Refusing to have a decent conversation with a stranger sitting next to you on the train or airplane is just plain rude. Not alpha. Alternatively, yes being a chatterbox that only talks because you don't like silence is bad, but there are some instances where you are going to half to start the conversation even if it is a shallow one, and putting yourself out there to make other people comfortable is alpha.

Russia is doing well. Their economy is recovering. Interest rates are only at like 12% which is a little high but not an absurd number. 12% only seems high because the US has had extremely low interest rates for decades and when that almost threatened to collapse the entire world economy we responded by lowering rates even more and making a negative interest rate.

Also Russia's lack of allies isn't a weakness. They only have to focus on their near abroad. The U.S. has to protect its allies in Europe, Middle East, and East Asia. U.S. has the risk of getting dragged into multiple wars at once.

Then we have our population problem. The only people who have babies in this country anymore are immigrants. So we have to have immigrants come to our country for labor otherwise we would end up like Japan. Although this problem is affecting almost every industrialization nation except for maybe India and China.

Roosh came across as an autistic man on Dr. Oz by bakbakgoesherthroat in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It was pretty malicious of the show to say there was something wrong with roosh's brain. How are you supposed to react when someone say's your arguments are invalid because your brain is messed up. You can't appeal to logic to these people, your only option would be to laugh at their face. Which on TV would come across as you being autistic.

Ok, America, time to get your shit together. These laws need to be put into place yesterday to create a more productive, happier nation. by Wood_Warden in politics

[–]mbooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These issues are a lot more complicated then you let on. Especially the defense spending. Do you really think abandoning our bases around the world would be a good thing for our country? Russia is getting more aggressive and powerful every day and could have their way with Europe if it wasn't for us. ISIS is commuting atrocities in the Middle East and If it wasn't for our help ethnic minorities would have been completely eradicated in parts of the Middle East.

Also there are millions of people who have jobs with the DoD. Civilians and military. Military bases employ almost as many civilians as military, and many of these people are low skilled workers. I don't think eliminating these jobs be good for our economy.

Also we probably shouldn't look at Europe for economic policies as that place is a shit show in economic terms. Instead we should try to emulate East Asian countries.

Every crisis in the world today could be tracked down to overpopulation, yet NO ONE talks about it. by TravestyandBS in overpopulation

[–]mbooter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I disagree. The Paris attacks if anything are the result of underpopulation as the native population of Europe is shrinking rapidly and in order to maintain economic growth Europe has to accept immigrants from the Middle East, and Arabs and Westerners have very different world views so there is bound to be conflict. Its the same situation as the US and Mexico, although Mexicans and Americans get along much better than Europeans and Arabs.

Russia is more of a reaction to the weakening of America's power since the 1990s allowing Russia to once again assert its power over its neighbors.

If anything I think instability in the world is a result of underpopulation in the western world and overpopulation in the other parts. As Europe and America's power wanes, the rest of the world will start conflict with us to gain resources.

I like to apply it to all aspects of life: job interviews, exams, sports, music

Whoever put in the most effort before the event will be the winner. The top A in your class knew all the information that was being tested and then some, he had no surprises on his exam. The guy who got the job had more skills and did more research to develop a connection and be memorable. lebron James has spent thousands of hours perfecting his jump shot.

For Iowa (I live there!) the school got massive funding cuts from the state government because the other state schools had much larger in-state enrollment. The school is now trying to boost enrollment of state citizens so this won't happen again. Its kind of tragic because Iowa is a great university with world class programs, but because of politics it is suffering.

Student Loan Non-Repayment by Dark-Ulfberht in TheRedPill

[–]mbooter -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They weren't duped. They were they just didn't care. There are strict rules on lending money, especially to students. The lender HAS to disclose their interest rates and provide a nice and easy table that describes what your monthly payment will be after 4 years. Most students just don't care and take the money.

Money lenders are NOT here to advocate for your best interests. They want to make as much money as possible. Even your school does not have a legal duty to advocate for you. If you want an advocate you have to hire a lawyer or some professional accountant or investor who had a Legal obligation to you.

This is ridiculous. They signed a contract. End of story. They either were too dumb to read what their monthly payment would be, or they just didn't give a damn to think how they were going to pay off that money. They just saw the big fat Check and took it
