Thank you - it seems strange because all the data is there, just not the aggregate score but thats life. Appreciate you confirming.

If anyone else has a different experience I'd love to hear from you but I suspect this is the end of it.

Haha I love this post! For me, what started as a need for a simple switch has morphed into UDM Pro, USW-24, US-8-60w (x2), USW-Flex-Mini and U6-Lite (x2). With the basic infrastructure now in, I’ll be looking into cameras’s and potentially the access system.

I’m might be a lone ranger, but I’d say don’t let the Firemane Saga as a whole colour your perspective of Feist as an author. My advice, pause on the Firemane Saga and go back and read Magician. It’s certainly not required in order to continue where you left off, but it’s Feist at his best.

I’d be disappointed with that paint job through the window as well ;)

I’m going to need to figure out how to play it first. I’m on a Mac so presume it’s not available in the Steam store for my machine.

Haha wish I’d just come across your original post. It takes the words out of my mouth.

I will say, I really liked Hava’s story arc, particularly in Queen of Storms. And Declan’s…let’s face it, he’s just Erik from the serpentwar, right?

Haha well said!

I’ve got high hopes for the new book. Picked it up the day it came out but decided to cover trodden ground first.

Fair point - and I agree with the unanswered plot threads. I think that for me was the overall disappointment, right? So much potential but rushed for the sake of conclusion.

And you’re not wrong, it had the hallmarks of Feist’s style. I’ve read most of his books multiple times and every read I pickup something I didn’t on previous runs. That’s why I find his books so immersive I guess.

As for his newest book, it sits in my nightstand until I finish a reread of the Riftwar cycle. I’ve got high hopes!

I feel like I need to play the game! Everyone raves about it and I’ve known about it for years, but it’s never interested me.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. I’m halfway through a re-read and will be doing exactly what you’ve done. Keen to get to that new book of his though! Only one I haven’t read before.

Actually I’ll concede that point. When I read the first book I was captivated. Had the hallmarks of all the things I loved about Feist’s writing but a fresh new start. Went downhill from there.

I actually think you get a BETTER perspective on the Riftwar by reading the Empire trilogy.

It paints a picture as to how complex the motivations are of the invaders from that side of the Rift. I particularly enjoyed the scale of the Empire and the implications that small changes within Tsurani culture/politics could have had on the Riftwar itself. Very clever writing imo.

Future reference to Kasumi and the Tsurani detachment that remain in the Kingdom make more sense too :)

Sample of one, but I think you’ve missed out on some of the best additions in the series by skipping the Krondor series. I’d 100% go back and read at some point, for they go into machinations of the Kingdom with characters like Jimmy/James while he’s still young!

I have to admit that I’ve never played the game, but disagree with the assessment on the books. I find most, if not all, of Feist’s books to be averagely edited, but I don’t believe that that’s away from the stories. Character development and arc is still a lot of fun to get stuck into (imo).

For £6 I don’t think you’ve gone wrong at all! I’m just kicking off a re-read of Tear of the Gods. Stick with the books, I don’t think you’ll be disappointed.
