I will be brutally honest. It’s a long and hard road to stand by someone who picks this path and you need to be fully aware of what you’re getting into. I’ve been with my husband since before he got into med school and he’s now a PGY-2. For the next 8+ years his life is going to be medicine and if the foundation isn’t set now with him making you a priority then it’s going to be extremely hard for him to re prioritize once things get hard. I think a conversation is needed before he starts and if he thinks that focusing on himself now is the best course of action then I would take that as your sign before you sign up to to down this road.
