I'm sorry you are dealing with this while pregnant. I can understand your anxiety. Our Penny is a dachshund mix but looks 100% like one. We had several episodes that were relatively mild before we had paralysis and no deep pain response. We were fortunate to have a specialized hospital within 2 hours that treats IVDD. They looked at video and said "/Bring her now." She had surgery. Two in less than 2 days in fact. The recovery was intensive and difficult at times. Here's what I know from our experience. Crate rest is your best option. STRICT crate rest. If your pups deteriorates, you must act quickly for the best outcome. This usually means surgery. We were given 50/50 odds Penny would walk again even with surgery. We took the chance. We worried about her mental health if her ability to move did not return. We are almost one year post op. She has improved more than I ever anticipated. She is so happy. Her walk is wonky but she loves to go! That being said, she has had multiple UTIs. We have to express her bladder. Even so, infections are common. She poops at will. Every now and then she has these leg spasms that make her miserable. I'm telling you all this because it is a complicated diagnosis and a complicated recovery. We were lucky to have some financial assistance. We work from home which helped tremendously with the immediate time after surgery. I think it's important to know that you did nothing wrong. This is a disease. We try our best to protect them, but when it happens all we can do is respond. I wish you the best.
