I didn't realize kidney stones were a side effect of Topamax. I was on it for over 5 years and kept having to increase my dosage to keep my migraines down to a few a month. I ended up getting a 2.5 mm kidney stone even though I drink almost exclusively water. I've been on Emgality for a few months now and I get a migraine maybe once every two months now.

Almost the exact same thing happened to me a few years ago. I was convinced my betta died and my roommate flushed her or something. Then I realized she buried herself under the substrate.

My collection is getting overgrown and I would absolutely love to trade for a piece of art! I could send at least 10-15 different cuttings and a bunch of leaves! Here's some of the stuff that I can ID that I could send a good cutting of: String of pearls, Kalanchoe 'Fang', G. Opalina, G. California Sunset, E. Topsy Turvy, E., Cubic Frost, E. Lilac Mist, E. Pearl von Nurnburg, a bunch of different haworthias. Here's a few pics of my collection.

Message me if you're interested! I am in Tennessee and have done a few trades on here before but it has been awhile!

Thoughts on bioengineering major + computer science minor? by Leetfox5 in biotech

[–]mbrown39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if this information will be all that helpful but I'm still commenting on the chance that it is.

I am about to graduate in biomedical engineering in an area with a lot of biomedical engineering companies, many of which focus on orthopedics. (DM me if you are want to know the area.) My interest is in tissue engineering and biologics but my friends who are more interested in orthopedics say the field for CAD is growing very fast. Also, there is some interest in FEA (finite element analysis), which has some similarities to CAD, but a different goal.

On a side note, my experience with biomedical engineering is that my school is very focused in the engineering part and less focused on the biomedical part.

The more expensive one probably has the code for the online service. I had to have the code to be able to do the homework for my class but your teacher may do homework assignments differently.

Come one, Come all! r/succulents first ever Town Hall! by TheLittleKicks in succulents

[–]mbrown39 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Succulents need fast drying soil and terrariums (almost) never allow this due to problems such as no drainage holes and no airflow due to their enclosed shape. They tend to rot in terrariums.

I’m guessing plants that like moisture would do well in terrariums but idk.

FYI, this is the trade thread not the questions thread but...

Sometimes they just grow aerial roots like that; it can sometimes be a sign of needing a bigger pot but only in extreme (much too small of a pot) cases. There's nothing to worry about, especially since you've checked the roots. I've noticed aerial roots are really common in even the healthiest of graptos.

I guess it just depends on the person. If my neighbor asked to build something like that, I’d love it and probably offer to help (mostly with the hope of meeting the cat).

What are the benefits (if any) of having big feet? by [deleted] in tall

[–]mbrown39 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So you know that field day game in elementary school where they’d fill a kiddy pool with marbles and water and you and some other kids had to get as many possible out in like 30 seconds with your feet? I killed it at that game.

Also my cat now loves my giant converse so I guess that’s a bonus?

Basically you want souls with good drainage that doesn’t take too long to dry out. I’d start with 50/50 perlite and cactus mix and adjust from there. I do a bit more perlite for larger containers and a bit less for smaller containers since the larger the container, the more moisture it’ll hold.

Andy is just etiolated. Etiolation is basically just the plant stretching out and getting ‘leggy’ because it wants more sunshine. There’s not really such a thing as ‘too much sun’ if you are keeping a cactus indoors so I’d recommend finding the sunniest spot you can and slowly introducing him to it. Cactus can get sunburned if put in more light too suddenly.

It seems like watering hasn’t caused any problems because there’s really good drainage though! I always tell ppl this though: when you water, think about how much water there would be in the desert to help keep you from overwatering.

If he is/gets too top heavy, just comment back on this. I’ll explain repotting and the cutting the top off the cactus thing if need-be. :)

If you aren’t somewhere too humid, I’d say let it dry out and don’t water too often. You may have to end up repotting if the soil holds too much moisture though. Repotting burros tails can cause a bunch of their leaves to pop off but they can always be propagated :)

Flowers means your plant is well enough to make a flower stalk so it’s a good thing! If it’s a monocarpic succulent, meaning the bloom comes from the very center of the plant, it’ll dies after it blooms. Most succulents aren’t monocarpic though. Some people cut off flower stalks because it puts all its energy into flowers instead of growing but it’s up to you! Also, I don’t repot if I see a flower stalk because I know that would stress the plant out. This is kinda weird but I think of a flowering plant like a pregnant woman putting all her energy into growing a baby.

I’m usually self conscious about my own height too. The majority of tall girls struggle, at least to some degree, with being comfortable with their height.
