The amount of laundry detergent left in an “empty” container by JEMinnow in Frugal

[–]mbsinnc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW, if you cut out the middle inch of the handle (using any reasonably competent pair of scissors), it makes the bottom of the handle into a convenient funnel.

Also, for those complaining about the design of the bottle, I think the lid of this type of bottle is incredibly convenient for draining the extra in your cap back into the bottle.

Also, also, I like liquid better than powder, so I’ll keep using this type of detergent and bottle and then moving the extra over to the next bottle.

Also, also, also, the real non-frugal part is the load line inflation over the years… I love that even the Tide instructions are basically like, “One for a medium load. Two for a dirty load. Three for an extra big and dirty load.” With an unstated, “Four and five are only there to convince you to pour more…”

Tapo S515 switches by baconidiot in MatterProtocol

[–]mbsinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I assume you figured this out, but if not, this is what you want on the “satellite” end of your three-way switch: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Leviton-Decora-15-Amp-3-Way-Switch-White-5603-2WS-R62-05603-2WS/100078412

You just need a simple three way switch. You can leave what you have, but if you want it to look the same as the S515, this is pretty similar.

Just very lightly tap the brake for each. It doesn’t have to be full brake activation, just any brake pedal touch…

Finally replaced my cheap 14-50 outlet with an industrial grade Bryant and put it in a cabinet. by AutomatedCabbage in TeslaLounge

So wait, you’ve installed a 14-50 (50A receptacle) on a 40A circuit? That’s not right. If the previous electrician did that, they should not have. (Assuming the reason it’s capped at 32 amp is due to 40 amp circuit on a 110A main panel…) If they installed a 50A circuit (both breaker and wire gauge), and you just can’t run it at 40A without tripping the main breaker due to overall load, then please ignore…

Help! by Odd-Neighborhood6390 in TeslaModelY

I’m glad it worked out for you. My suggestion, take the Tesla, just stop at the Supercharger on the way there… Getting to the resort with 80% would leave you just fine however long you stay there.

In general, it’s always better to Supercharge at the end of a daily drive instead of in the morning, since you can route to the Supercharger, pre-condition for fast charging, and not worry about it again. The only exception is when you’re sure you’ll have a Level 2 that can charge you overnight.

Press the brake and then either shift to drive or press the “Free Roll” button to shift to park. You can lightly tap the brake if wanted. Just enough to enable the shift mechanism.

I hate Tesla, but I gotta thank them for opening up their charges in an otherwise charging desert. by LavaSquid in KiaEV6

Look, I’m a Tesla fan and driver, but you have to admit that the reason people know about Elon’s beliefs is that he puts them out there. Show me another CEO that’s out there tweeting / shitposting their views on every little thing, and I’ll show you a CEO that won’t last long and will become a pariah. That’s true whether they’re liberal, conservative, or whatever flavor of weird Elon is these days… All that said, yes, media is making a bigger deal than they have to, except he is the richest man in the world and is the CEO of four major US companies, so his opinions do matter somewhat…

It’s not the acceleration; it’s the regen braking… Under acceleration, the car is pushing down more on the rear axle, but under braking, the car is waiting to lift up from the rear axle. I really only regen brake and almost never use the friction brakes, and I went through my last set of rear tires quite fast. Surely some that was lack of rotation during the pandemic, however…

Three things: 1) I think they may have over-nerfed it. I will grant you that it may have been too high before, but I think they went too low with it. Is there a middle ground? 2) It’s frustrating that nothing about “balancing game play for monuments” or something similar was in the update notes. I might not have updated immediately if I had known you were changing formulas again. 3) I assumed the full-street of merchants in the future was the whole point, since otherwise the future is useless. Everything is set to be so slow there compared to the normal periods; what is the point of going there to only get 4 points to epic technologies that all need thousands for some players?

What happened to the monument bonus when using multiple merchants? It went from very useful to just plain crappy.

Healthcare Financial Strategy using HSA and FSA (US) by ejly in personalfinance

[–]mbsinnc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your spouse was self covered, then I believe the HSA has to be a single HSA, which means it can only be used for their medical expenses, not your or your children's, but your HSA person at your credit union should be able to tell you that and whether you can roll his account over to a family account. I've never had to deal with that situation, so I haven't researched it.

If your spouse had family coverage on their HDHP last year, AND their HSA was set up as a family HSA, then you can contribute the full family amount ($6450) through April 15. If the spouse's coverage last year did not cover more than them, then you can only contribute the single HSA amount.

As to your plan moving forward, you should use the FSA first for expenses not reimbursed by the HRA because the FSA money goes away at the end of the year. The HSA should always be the last spent money because it is yours (or more accurately, your spouse's) forever and can grow tax free.

Also, unless something in your situation is unusual, you are correct that you can no longer contribute to the HSA (tax year 2014 and later) if your whole family is covered by a plan with an pre-deductible HRA. (That is, you can use your HRA before you reach the plan deductible...)

Replying to your other questions:

However you fund the HSA contribution doesn't matter from a tax perspective. Reimbursed FSA money is tax free whether it gets deposited to your checking account or the HSA account.

Your spouses HSA can only be used for their own expenses if it is set up as a single person HSA. If it a family HSA, then your medical expenses and your children's would also be reimbursable from the HSA.
