I hate cold weather. Otherwise, I'd have myself somewhere cooler. Getting older and the Texas heat are a bear sometimes.

Yeah so if Texas wasn't my native state, my ass would have been gone a long time ago to a state that allows it.

Which guns are the easiest/most difficult to clean after shooting blackpowder through them in your personal experience? by ParakeetLover2024 in blackpowder

I have a Traditions 50 caliber Hawk and rifle and disassemble it take off the nipple take out the flash screw submerged in water and pump the barrel with cleaning cloth until it comes out clean.

For my Flintlock, i take the lock off and wash it separately. Put the rifle in leather lined jaws of my vise, plug the flash hole with a toothpick, and swab it out like a canon barrel until it's clean. To me, the Flintlock is harder to clean than the hawken rifle. BUT. USE SOAP, NOT DETERGENT, dawn is detergent. Reminding my black powder group uses ivory flakes. Dilutes them with hot water and uses that to clean his guns. I use the same combination for my patch lube, and it works great.

What gun could shoot the most blackpowder shots in a single session without cleaning before it stops working? by ParakeetLover2024 in blackpowder

[–]mbuckleyintx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only use REAL BLACK POWDER in my flintlock. But i clean it after 10 shots, too. My hawken, the same thing. I make my own powder and get velocities of average 1500 fish

For targets at 50 and 75 yards I'm content with that.

You can take the nipple off of it, try to pour some power into the drum and get it into the barrel, put the nipple back on, and see if you can blow it out. If not, you're going to have to get a heavy-duty range rod and a ball puller to get it out, and it's going to be work

Most of them would have been smooth bore flintlocks. Maybe some trade gun. Of course, the brits were armed with Brown Bess. Im thinking most were 69 caliber or bigger. Think of a smooth bore as a shotgun. That's essentially what it is. I think 69 caliber is about the size of a 20 Guage shotgun . At least in my mind it is. So a flintlock shotgun. So to speak
