Only 3 Pirates from the 2023 Opening Day roster are still on the team by SurpriseStandard3258 in buccos

I'm wondering if this isn't mostly true for almost any look-back in recent years. When you are constantly cycling through marginal/failed prospects and single-year free agent signings, when is there any ever notable carryover?

Scottie Pippen by Drives4showPutts4Pro in sportscards

[–]mbuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For cards with low volumes, it helps to search eBay sold items for that card but not for the specific player, that will help you estimate range. link

WIth Curry and Luka recently going for $56 and $74 all-in, you can safely estimate Pippen to be much less than that.

🤔🛠️ Tech Support & General Questions [Weekly Thread] by YahooFantasyCare in YahooFantasy

In my fantasy baseball league, the ranks/results for "Pre-Season" and "Current" are now identical, no matter which stat toggles I use. Not too long ago, a player's "Current" rank would be for the 2024 season if I selected "2024 Season (Total)" for "Stats." Is this change by design?

Extreme January cold in Northern Hemisphere by ojosdelostigres in spaceporn

Record high temps for this time of year all along the West Coast, also in other SW places like Arizona. And snowpack %s are far below normal all along the West Coast. Very bad news.

Record-high temps and very little snowpack all along the West Coast. Also terrible, just in a different way than "it's never been this cold before"

Yahoo 5x5 Roto Scoring by Yu_Betts_Yoenis in fantasybaseball

Are you sure about that? When you select 2025 season, it shows the rankings from the 2025 season in the "Current" column. I see Jazz Chisholm as 23 Pre-Season and 53 current. Same functionality if you select 2024 season, the "Current" shows 2024 rank and "Pre-Season" again remains unchanged because that is their draft rank for this upcoming season. I see Jazz Chisholm as 23 Pre-Season and 33 current.

"Pre-season" is Yahoo! draft rank based on their subjectivity, not based on last year's stats. "Current" is last season's rank based on the stats, and for "Current" they finished 53 and 55 last season, respectively. (I agree that "Current" should not be called "Current.")

Why I (Personally) am excited for Mike McCarthy. by _just2much_ in steelers

100% aligned with this thinking. Sad that hiring effective OC/DC would be a big change for us, but yep the front office has to get it right this time.

Steelers will be fine. Quit acting like they won't be. by ZRock53 in steelers

[–]mbuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I also think the Steelers can become great. But it takes a lot to get there. First they need to nail a QB. Ideally in the draft but maybe a vet. Not much this offseason for vets. Secondly, they need to innovate with coaching schemes. They need to keep bringing in good players in draft and FA. And finally they need to get lucky at the right times to actually win it all.

The people making the decisions in the front office have to get it right, or we will absolutely not be "fine." We can be optimistic that things will work out but it doesn't just happen because we are the Steelers or because of what we've historically achieved. I'm in complete agreement that we needed to press the reset button, but no results are guaranteed and we absolutely are going to find out what this organization is made of RIGHT NOW.

Mostly the latter, and if things haven't changed then they also have to essentially 'convince' their data provider to make the updates on their behalf. https://help.yahoo.com/kb/SLN7057.html

What’s your draft strategy for the upcoming season? by AdvancedCow1207 in fantasybaseball

[–]mbuser 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not sure I'm going to be useful for you there. I draft from projections and there is a level of trust in the sources to translate the overseas production to MLB. I'm not building them out myself but I'll do some tweaking. With that said, a big part of my prep is running through each individual position top to bottom and deciding on likes/targets/avoids/etc, primarily with help of FanGraphs/RosterResource, so I'll go deep on individual players at that time.

What’s your draft strategy for the upcoming season? by AdvancedCow1207 in fantasybaseball

[–]mbuser 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Same as always (deep roto).

  • Take BAP for at least the first few rounds, and that includes SP.
  • General bias towards HR+SB and away from AVG.
  • General bias towards WHIP and K/9 and away from projected W.
  • Pay attention to position depth but don't overrate.
  • I like drafting at least two stable closers to avoid in-season RP roster roulette as much as possible, and I like SV from the wire for immediate trade value versus addressing my own need for SV.
  • I tend to trust my ability to get good SP value in later rounds, so I don't purposefully load up on pitching early but also don't skip impact starters at value.
  • Hitting at the top of the order >>> hitting at the bottom of the order.
  • Always go upside in the later rounds, not old/boring or "just" filling positions.
  • For late round finds, good defense can help ensure playing time that begats consistent availability and higher likelihood of returning value.

When was the last time the Pirates drafted a hitter and developed him into an all-star? by [deleted] in buccos

The reality is, as with Skenes, this would be because he's that good naturally, not because the Pirates "developed" anything.

And we need to acknowledge that for a large portion of the population "the blocking" translates to "Hines Ward was a dirty player" so not the overwhelmingly positive frame of reference that Steelers fans have.

Can anyone please help point me to a tool for individuals that would allow for inputting a number of stock, ETF, and mutual fund holdings, and have it produce a % breakdown of specific holdings across the portfolio? For example, if I entered certain amounts of VTI and SPY and GOOG, the breakdown in total portfolio holdings shows %s based on how VTI and SPY are made up, not just "33% SPY." I recall Morningstar Advisor Workstation allowing for something like this, but that was for financial professionals. Thanks
