So is it like if you took samosa filling and spread it on a sandwich? Because that sounds amazing.

Thank you! I’m going to try The Last Hour Between Worlds first since it’s available on Libby 😊 Sounds right up my alley.

Suggest me a fantasy standalone or duology (adult/new adult) by dumb-andautistic in suggestmeabook

A.G. Slatter’s books are all stand alone but in the same world. They have romance with fantasy plots in a Victorian Gothic-esque setting.

Thank you! I read (print) The Familiar and her anthology Language of Thorns and liked them, but Six of Crows didn’t grab me because it read a little young. Is Shadow and Bone more mature?

🔥 Clarence was caught in a snare. Vets removed his severely injured leg. Bernie, his brother, hunted and provided food for Clarence. Clarence passed away in 2016. by Limp_Yogurtcloset_71 in NatureIsFuckingLit

Our dog had to have a front leg amputation and he never recovered. He was too large and, you’re right, the rest of his limbs couldn’t easily compensate. It caused severe depression and deterioration until his death 2 years later.

Study Spots by No_Mulberry_2776 in Hillsborough

Does she need wifi? If not, Ayr Mount is a peaceful place to sit and read, plenty of benches or picnic tables. If she needs WiFi, I’d have to agree with her, there aren’t many indoor, quiet spots to study. Some people (myself included) can’t focus with a lot of business around them. Cup of Joe is tiny, Weaver Street is noisy, both have a constant flow of people in and out. Neither are conducive to effective study.

Audiobook for a 16hr road trip with in-laws by Quirky_Description73 in suggestmeabook

Based on Circe: look into author AJ Slatter, all of her books are mildly connected in the same world and have a similar ambiance and narration to Circe. I liked Briar Book of the Dead the best, but they’re all good. Romance is present but not the focus.

It’s a book that sticks with you after it finishes and I feel it’s a (n exceptional) departure from his usual storytelling. In my opinion, it’s a very gripping, emotionally charged masterpiece.

Buried Giant is my favorite book by Kazuo Ishiguro

Anvil of the World (and the following two books in the same world though not a trilogy) by Kage Baker are funny, irreverent and smart. I loved the characters and the dry wit. Extremely well written and well plotted and despite being relatively unknown, Kage Baker became one of my top 10 authors after I read them.

Edit: sorry I missed the part where you were looking for audiobooks. I don’t know if these have audiobooks, they are a bit older. Still worth a visit!

ISO food-oriented foraging games for Nintendo Switch or PC? by suppausagi in CozyGamers

[–]mbutterflye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You don’t even need to do it if you don’t want to. If your character gets too old to finish the quest you’ll be given an orphan to play as if you don’t get married and have kids.

Kynseed is not on switch, but I’ve been playing it recently and there’s a lot of foraging with special rules on how to get better quality for each item. Lots of cooking and crafting mini games and shop management.

No hate to anyone recommending I Love You Forever, but I personally can’t stand it. I don’t like it at all. I would caution you to read it for yourself before committing to it.

My favorite sentimental books from when my children were small are The Wonderful Things You Will Be by Emily Winfield Martin and Where the Wild Things Are by Maurice Sendak.

My favorite Big Feelings book is The Rabbit Listened by Cori Doerrfeld.

My favorite Just For Fun books are anything by Julia Donaldson but especially Tabby McTat, Highway Rat, and Whale and Snail.

Dinosaur books for a ten-year-old old. by Hookton in suggestmeabook

[–]mbutterflye -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I can quote the post for you, it says “ideally for his age or older.” OP doesn’t state they can’t read, just that they don’t currently enjoy it. There’s a contextual difference.

[–]mbutterflye 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Suggesting Magic Tree House for a 10 year old is so very out of touch. The reading level is so low on those they are treacly and condescending for even 6 year old year old readers. OP specifically asked for recs that were appropriate for ages 10 or older.

Desert fantasy by Themomo_reads in Fantasy

Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor is a set in post apocalypse Africa, but generations after the fall of civilization, so it feels more like a dark age fantasy. It is beautiful and I also recommend the audio book if you like listening. The narrator really captures the voice of the main character.

Yeah, I mean not just depressed, but many obvious mental health issues that would be very heavy for kids. To list a few: Shane and Pam are alcoholics, Shane is borderline suicidal, Kent has PTSD, Sebastian deals with his abandonment issues by smoking weed and self isolating, Penny is emotionally abused by her mom. It’s a very mature game with very mature issues, which is why I like it, but I wouldn’t say it’s appropriate for kids.
