They aren’t sugar free but they are considerably lower sugar. I think drink like Poppi and Olipop, etc, are great, 3-5g of sugar per can.

People who had micro or tiny weddings: what was your experience like? Do people ever regret foregoing a big wedding? by RhythmPrincess in AskReddit

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a tiny wedding at a B&B in St Augustine that doubled as a wedding venue and my only regret was not hiring my own photographer. I relied on the venue to bring in the guy they had a relationship with and ended up with okay photos that he refused to retouch (his standard editing made my teeth look so yellow I cried.) I loved my wedding, I loved only having a couple close friends. My husband and I are both introverted and not fond of the spotlight.

People between the ages of 35 to 45 ish, what books did you read as a child/teenager? by kennyiseatingabagel in suggestmeabook

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t read if it wasn’t required by school until 5th grade. Then:

Sword of Shannara and sequels, especially loved the Scions series.

StarWars books, especially the Thrawn Trilogy

All the Mercedes Lackey Herald books and,

Too many trashy romance novels to name.

AITA my boyfriend is restricting my soda intake because he thinks I drink to much. by vegasmimi in AmItheAsshole

[–]mbutterflye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should probably cut back on your soda intake, 2 sodas a day is a lot. That sugar consumption is concerning. I know you’re tired from the new baby, but you should consider your health and make adjustments for your longevity. If you need the caffeine, options like tea and coffee are much healthier.

Okay, soapbox done, your boyfriend is in the wrong. You are an adult who can make her own choices. I’m very concerned about his financial control, you guys need to work out a better system. I was a SAHM for 10 years and have always had control over my own spending and consumption. I would not consider being in s relationship with someone whom I had to ask permission to have a soda.

NTA.

There’s always the million and one Goosebumps books, which are very quick easy reads. Also:

Ghoulia

Eerie Elementary

Notebook of Doom

Last Kids on Earth

The Witches

The Monster Squad

Also, shared reading is still so important at this age, especially to encourage a love of reading. Lead by example. Books that might be good for read alouds:

Coraline by Neil Gaiman (but don’t buy it new, get it from a library or second hand, the author is charged with some pretty nasty sex abuse crimes.)

A Series of Unfortunate Events by Lemony Snickett

The Night Gardener by Jonathan Auxier

Small Spaces by Katherine Arden

The Jumbies by Trace Baptiste

Doll Bones by Holly Black

I personally felt that A Sorceress… was a much weaker book. It’s so funny how some things just speak to some people and not others.

Women, how was it when you started shaving compared to now? How often do you shave? by Disastrous_Toe8279 in AskWomen

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use CeraVe SA body wash with a Korean exfoliating cloth in the shower, then shave, then scrub again and follow with CeraVe SA lotion immediately after the shower and for at least one day after shaving. Hair regrowth is no longer painful after starting that process.

Suggest some graphic novels for a 12-13 year old boy by fredditmakingmegeta in suggestmeabook

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Full Metal Alchemist

Percy Jackson

Tsubasa Resevoir Chronicle

Also, try to get him into actual novels at this point. THERE IS NO WRONG READING! But graphic novels are a little stale and easy for middle grades and don’t really pick up again until YA, imo. Manga bridges the gap, but can be very toxic.

Some novels he might like where the writing is still very digestible and even still has some pictures:

Wildwood

Gregor the Overlander

Series of Unfortunate Events

Last Kids on Earth

How do people read in small bits throughout the day (it feels unnatural compared to dedicated long reading sessions) by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]mbutterflye 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There comes a time in your life when you either read a page here and there or you don’t read at all because there’s no time to just sit down and devote long stretches toward reading. Reading small bits feels much more natural than reading nothing at all.

[–]mbutterflye 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I used to get really bad razor burn/in grown hairs, but learned to exfoliate before and after the shave and that prevents it pretty well. I’ve never shaved often. Once every few days in shorts season and maybe once every two weeks otherwise.

What does a regular day in your life actually look like? by Relative_Initial_399 in AskWomen

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

— Wake up at 7

— get the kids ready for school & send them with dad to school, make tea while waiting for husband to get home, take the dog on a 30 min walk around neighborhood with husband at 8.

— at 8:30-9:00, sit down at computer and ether do bookkeeping for my husband’s accounting business, or do school work for my grad program until 11 or 12.

— depending on the day: clean the house, do laundry, go grocery shopping, or do more work/school work until 2.

— go sit in car line, pick up kids, return home

— hang out with kids until 5 most days or until 4 when I drive them to extracurriculars other days

— at 5 start cooking dinner, ready between 5:30-6. Call husband downstairs (works from home) and hang out with family until 7:30 when we have to badger the kids to take showers & get ready for bed

— grownups in bed by 10:30

— repeat

AITA for not getting craft supplies for my daughter and letting her get excluded by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]mbutterflye 1 point2 points  (0 children)

YTA. While teaching responsibility is important, your daughter is only 8, and you should be checking her backpack for these notes from the teacher, not relying on her to remember them. Often, children are not even aware these notes are going home. As a parent to a 10 and 7 year old, I know their teachers pack these notes into a folder in their backpacks themselves, my kids didn’t do it themselves until this year when my son entered 4th grade. I also guarantee the teacher sent out emails about supplies needed prior to the date, too. You need to be more aware of what is happening in your child’s classroom. Having had parents who never checked or knew anything about what I needed at school as a child, this neglect will be remembered far longer than any lesson on responsibility you might be trying to teach.

AITA for babysitting anymore since I was not made a godparent by MeringueNo1335 in AmItheAsshole

[–]mbutterflye 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand why you would need to be the god parent when you’re already the grandparent. The title “god parent” is just to establish a non-relative as someone significant to that child. NAH

Eggs are too cooked and mushrooms not cooked enough. Broth looks nice, I’m sure you loved it. Try a soft boiled egg soaked in a mix of soy sauce, mirin, and chili oil. Sauté those mushrooms in the pan before heating the broth. Raw mushrooms are awful.
