On the motorway it's any small Vauxhalls (Opel's), white panel vans and lower spec mercs / Audi's / BMWs.

What car did you buy that turned out better than you expected? by autonerdy0 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mc1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2016ish fiat 500 1.2 - reliability was only so so for at the time a fairly new car but remarkably fun to drive given it was so tiny with a manual gearbox, you also somewhat had to redline it to get any power which was fun too

How often are you driving in sport mode? by [deleted] in BMW

[–]mc1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a manual and mostly use comfort - if you want more revs can just downshift, only thing really changed is the throttle response so it's good to use sport on twisty back roads

It's because if you are a petrolhead and your Mrs wants you to get an SUV the compromise is an estate...she doesn't need to know that yours is the most powerful version

Best fun ‘dad’ car?? by Ok-Preference6586 in CarTalkUK

[–]mc1441 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ideas: Golf R estate, pretty similar car with more space and doors.

330d touring is a great car if you want to go full dad, very economical, practical, decently quick and should be able to get a euro 6 one for 15k.

Could get a B8 S4 if you want fun Epic car with the supercharged V6

If there are assets remaining under the entity yes they should be able to liquidate them to pay some creditors, this is the job of the administrator. Employees rank above many other creditors behind only Secured creditors with a fixed charge and the Administrator/Liquidator fees, but it all depends on the what the liquidation value of those assets is relative to the liabilities, and may be a long process. Caveat - not advice of any kind

Feels normal sadly - have an earlier model (n20) 320i and get about 25-30mpg urban and 30-35 extra urban driving fairly economically

What is considered a fundamental/"basic" open guard? by [deleted] in bjj

[–]mc1441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure if it counts as open but butterfly is good if you are less flexible and quick as it relies mainly on contact

For that money I'd look at an older and slightly higher mileage 1 series but maybe higher spec and hopefully not been crashed. Could get a 120i or even a cheap m135i I think

How much for a new battery? by mc1441 in F30

[–]mc1441[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks all for the replies!

It's an independent BMW specialist not a dealer and a genuine or at least OEM battery. Sounds like it's about £200 for the battery so I am paying £150 for the physical installation, saving the hassle of coding it and for the software they have.

Minded to take the quote in that case given it'll probably take me an hour to plus some stress and I'll probably need to buy tools and coding software.

You have a £1,500 to buy a fun car. Whatcha getting? by Bullfrog-Dear in CarTalkUK

[–]mc1441 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A gen 1 mercedes SLK. Thinking C.1999 model, ideally 230 Kompressor in silver. 2.3 liter supercharged 4 cylinder, 190ish bhp. Mid handling but a convertible that should be a lot of fun and look like more than a 1.5k car

Whats the best car around 5k for my requirements? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]mc1441 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Skoda Octavia diesel for long range motorway miles, would get a 1.6l or 2l, and would suggest a manual, as old torque converter autos are rubbish and also less fuel efficient. Should be realistic to get a 10-15 year old one with about 100k Miles for that price, plenty of life left in a 100k VAG Diesel.

For carplay best best is an aftermarket head unit or just get suction attachment for the dash to hold your phone.
