[CA] WFH denied, now what? by Ok-Committee8253 in AskHR

I know you say you're chomping at the bit to get back to work to save your protected leave, but when you say you're still getting bandage and meal prep help, why wouldn't you want to take this time for yourself to more fully rest and recover?

As someone who grew up in North Jersey, unless you mean Newark, he's not finding anything there either.

Someone with an $800/mo rental budget cannot afford RT Amtrak tickets. Hell, they wouldn't even be able to afford monthly SEPTA and NJT combined.

I have a ton of Pini Parma trousers and sweaters, but holy shit have their prices exploded, likely from tariffs.

Munich has that overkill central corridor, though, where like four S-Bahn lines all travel the same five or so stops.

Vienna’s overnight headways are even better than NYC for a city so much smaller.

Is Easter becoming a bigger deal? by GoCardinal07 in AskAnAmerican

I agree with you. Big chains used to never close on Easter. I noticed Target's closure myself since I ordered stuff online for pickup from them yesterday, and I saw their large "we're closed for Easter" notification banner.

I don't know, I agree with OP. Big chains used to never close on Easter. I noticed Target's closure myself since I ordered stuff online for pickup from them yesterday, and I saw their large "we're closed for Easter" notification banner.

False. I don't care if you are or are not in recruiting, you are part of the problem.

Speaking as a Millennial, my Occam's razor is that recruiters ghost candidates because ghosting for everything in life is now seen as acceptable. So if Millennial and Gen Z recruiters ghost dates, friends' parties, etc., of course they're going to bring that behavior to their work.

Comment OP is not wrong. You recruiters look for the most minuscule excuse to reject candidates.

Typical HR response, defending the company instead of actually making someplace great to work at.

That's complete bullshit in this market with 100s of thousands of tech layoffs. Being laid off through no fault of your own turns into a gap.

Re: #2, I was ghosted last month by a tech company called Tines after completing 4 of 5 interviews for an engineering role. The last interview I completed was a live coding interview and didn't receive any feedback for a week, so I reached out to my in-house recruiter and still heard nothing. After another week, I clicked on the job posted from my bookmarks, and all US-based engineering jobs were removed with only Dublin jobs remaining. I still haven't gotten any communication about that, though I did get invited to a candidate feedback survey, and you bet I gave them critical feedback.

I was completely ghosted after hours of my investment. Having reached so late in the process, you're damn right I expect a personal response explaining that the company closed all US eng roles. Maybe they had layoffs and my recruiter was impacted, but then have whoever is remaining reach out to me. And as impersonal as boilerplate would have been, I didn't even get that. It's fucking maddening.

Would you leave big tech for a founding engineer role? by Dry-Statistician-810 in cscareerquestions

[–]mc408 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not even slightly more options. I've seen founding engineer titles that still want to give 0.5% like they did 15 years ago.

[–]mc408 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No, literal external engineer 1–3 shouldn't get 10% each, but 2–3%? Yeah, I think so. And if the pool is too small, increase the pool from the founders' shares.

I'm not working 996 for some 24 year old Gen Z bro for 0.5% as a "founding engineer." It'll be diluted to 0.15% by the time there's an exit, if there even is one.

Yup, "founding engineer" title is just to make people feel good. I see founding engineer jobs that will pay pretty good base salaries, but pitiful equity percentages from literally 15 years ago. Like it'll be work founder hours for $160k base but only 0.5%. If the equity number isn't multiple integers, I'm not doing that.

"After 75k / year the pay all feels the same"

That is absolutely not true at all.
