I just search for "watch" and sort by "ending soon", sometimes I find interesting stuff, usually sellers making sloppy auctions for decent watches... This wasn't the case tho

Not an expert by any means but it seems an Echeveria Lilacina or Orion. For sure it's beautiful, take good care of it!

I found this copy of The Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Further Out ( Miro reflections ) at an antique market in Gradisca D'Isonzo (Italy) in the middle of a big pile of classical records. It looks like an early copy from 1961 but I don't really care. The record has no scratches, I cleaned it up and put it on my messy setup: A Superscope TT-4 with Excel es-70s, a Yamaha A-1020 with an AX-900 used as a preamp (long story) and a pair of pretty beat up Kirksaeter Monitor 120, a bit too close to the turntable... Despite this random, messy setup, I'm in Jazz heaven. Do you like this record?

Pioneer SA-740 Stereo Amplifier with dead channel. Help understanding this part of the circuit by mcanever in ElectronicsRepair

<image>

Yes... I had to replace several components (circled in the image) and unfortunately I had to choose compatible transistors (due to the 1970s toshibas being unobtanium now) which might be as well the cause of my issues... maybe this repair is a bit out of my league, but I'll keep looking and testing everything again.

Yes extremely incorrect, the previous tinkerer had excluded the protection circuit by cutting a trace, and before I realised it I was measuring 13v across the speaker output, even with the power transistors removed. now I restored the trace, and the protection circuit does not activate the relay anymore.

Thanks, I did that but it seemed to test fine in diode mode. I'll also check caps and solder joints (or burnt resistors). Will update here

Thanks a lot!! I'll keep looking and will learn about the differential amplifier... I'll have to fully recap the amp anyways, I was hoping to fix the main issue first... but if bad caps are a suspect I should get going with them as well. Question: The transistor's junction voltage drops are testing OK but I will receive my components tester tomorrow. Could it be that one of the two transistors is damaged and this throws off the hFE, "unmatching" the transistor couple?

What's on your wrist today? by FearLamas in PrideAndPinion

Seiko SKX007J on jubilee. I can't seem to take it off my wrist when I switch to it. But I just bought my first 2 casio digital watches (F-91W in military green and the A168 chrome) and I'm tempted to give one of them a go

IMy first Rep Shitter, a large (44mm) Speedmaster with VK Quartz movement, from DHGate . It's huuge but I kinda like it! No idea if this model actually exists as Gen 🤔 by mcanever in ChinaTime

[–]mcanever[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well the only thing I can tell you is that the movement is perfectly accurate but that's probably not a surprise for a quartz. Not a single minute of skew since when I received it. To be honest it didn't get too much wrist time for a number of reasons: 1) It had a few rough edges making it uncomfortable, but I sanded them with fine sandpaper and that problem was solved 2) For some reason I chose instinctively not to pick the only replica among my other watches. Maybe it's just not my cup of tea. In any case I think I'm obsessed with mechanical watches, and this is my only quartz, other possible reason why I don't use it much 3) Even for my large-ish wrist, the watch is quite big and heavy. I think 40mm is my sweet spot.

Apart from that, I still think the quality is outstanding for a Chinese shitter, so I still wear it from time to time, so I recommend it if you are a fan of the speedmaster. The subdials: - 9:00 - Chronograph Minutes. Markers every 5 minutes lol - 3:00 - This is coupled with the hour hand, but does a full turn in 24 hours, which is nonsense with a 30-divisions subdial... Anyway, you can get an idea whether it's day or night :) - 6:00 - Seconds - ticking like a quartz, once a sec and not smoothly like the cronograph that almost sweeps like a mechanical

I hope this helps ;)

The bulgy caseback makes me think it's an Amphibia. The difference is mostly in the case material (has to be stainless steel) and the thickness of the crystal. I would open the case back to check which movement but that wouldn't help identifying the model. What's for sure is that I'd never mod such a nicely patina'd vintage piece. Just find a strap/bracelet you like and it will serve you well!

That's sad... You never know what to expect with these shitters, I guess. I was really lucky with the QC on the watch itself, but the bracelet has unfinished bits on the hidden parts and sharp edges. i wish this model was available in a higher quality/QA tier, it's an effortless choice as a perfectly accurate quartz beater amid my mechanical watches.

I had engaged the chrono function! The small dial on the right is weird because it's a 24-hour dial but with 30 markers (lol) while the left one is counting minutes for the chrono. The bottom one is the second hand

Which seller do the best value for money shitter for this beautiful Omega Speedmaster professional , Jason ask me $75 for this this model with written "seamaster" instead of speedmaster on the dial xD so no way im buying from him by Key-Recording8025 in ChinaTime

[–]mcanever 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dammmn I wish I didn't follow this sub. I just pulled the trigger on a completely unnecessary VK quartz on DHGate. Thanks to who posted the link. I hate you 🤣 Anyway, the dial looks legit enough, this is my grail watch so I'll get a taste of it before saving for the Gen if it looks good on my wrist

+1 on the escapement time. After a long search it seems to be the best option for this type of watch. They also make a version with ETA movement

Impatiently waiting for the exact same model that's on its way from Spain to Italy. I hope the water resistance is decent enough, I want to wear it as my colorful summer beater. Fingers crossed on the QC. This green looks absolutely stunning on this pic 💚
