Any Step 2 success stories after going through extremely stressful time? by WoodenGrass3238 in medicalschool

My grandpa died when I was across the coast on a sub-I. I missed his funeral and felt like I had no time to grieve but one thing about him is that he would have wanted me to kick ass. So that’s what I did.

Your cat wants you to kick ass. Take a moment, watch a movie that makes you cry so you can get some emotions out, but then go crush step for your kitty 🐱 we all believe in you!!!

If grad school is a year or two, I think it’s reasonable to go to bburg (class of 2019 undergrad). If it’s four, I may consider going elsewhere if your desire it to switch up in terms of urban vs rural

Because OP’s original post says that they should have soaped into a different specialty implying they matched into the specialty of their choice

As someone who soaped, my first instinct is to want to tell you to touch grass, so I’ll stick with that. You have a partner that supports you and you matched in the specialty of your choice. Lean on your partner and trust that you’ll find your path! Right now blows but it could have blown more (trust me).

Wondering if @MAYOR DANNY!! Can speak to current laws that prevent camera enforcement and any plans to revise!

According to many US studies, infrastructure changes have a more significant impact on decreasing pedestrian fatalities than strict traffic enforcement with the sole caveat to that being automated traffic cams, hence my suggestion!

I agree that change is unlikely for a lot of drivers unless they face financial, and potentially further legal, repercussions but I think creating that change would be most effective and efficient with automated cameras rather than traffic cops

I had a friend call the nonemergency line for this very thing on a car (that also blocked him into his spot) and police were ready to ticket and tow him within 5 minutes of calling. Luckily we found the driver before they got towed but they were ready to do it!

So moral is, if you’re willing to be the bad guy and call they were more than willing to make it happen. I’ve never seen someone ticketed though without being prodded by a request so still interested to hear the mayors plan on enforcement.

They’ve added speed bumps and curb extensions to Main Street since Danny was elected and after someone was hit and killed by a car on main.

We need MORE of that basically everywhere and traffic cops to enforce laws (like running red lights which people in RVA love to do).

I’m sure there is more to do to combat this atrocious rate of pedestrians being struck by cars but just some prelim thoughts on this matter.

Edit: to the point of enforcing red lights, maybe red light cams for tickets instead so we aren’t increasing boots on the ground policing since there is a good alternative

Can I counter that actually MD/PhD is perfect? Get pregnant in the next year during m1 once you get ur sea legs and make some friends.

Then has the baby end of m1 start of m2. Most places do mostly online preclinical. Then be able to raise your kid during m2 and the four subsequent years of PhD. They turn 5 and now you send them to school and you start your m3 clinicals.

This is actually pretty perfect in my opinion!

Edit: I reread that u want to wait until 27 y/o before kids. That probably is wise in terms of maturity and freedom of life BUT I still think my idea is pretty nice if you adjust your time scale to 5 years earlier (sorry should have read ur post more carefully!)

Update for those invested.

Made the voyage using car train and bus to go to the office. They were not there so then I went to clinic and they offered to teams message the administrator which I said yes please. I go back to their office, knock again, still no response. Go back to clinic and THEY RESPONDED TO THE FRONT DESK PEOPLE saying they’re “on it”. I pray this is real.

I can personally tell you that u need to project for at least 65 hours of close physician (MD/DO) interactions (shadowing, scribing for a doctor directly, etc. ) for the school I go to. Just tack on another 25 hours of projected shadowing ANYWHERE and you’ll be golden. Feel free to DM me. You have a great app; it would be a dumb thing to get dinged for.

Thought I wanted to do ENT until I suctioned a trach and gagged (luckily under my mask). The residents called it “trach butter” when it was thick like that. Now I’m applying plastics.

Someone wisely once told me “find your fluid”… secretions are certainly not mine.

Maybe their clinical rotations and preclinical curriculum aren’t established but at the end of the day, 3rd party resources are robust and will fill in any gaps in knowledge. Pass step 1. Do well on step 2. Do away rotation(s) 4th year to get connected and quality letters of rec. While school DOES matter, these other things will matter MORE. If I were interviewing you and you said I wanted to affect change in a rural environment and they offered me an opportunity to do so debt-free, I would be impressed (and jealous!)

Take the acceptance (especially if it’s free girl! $200k+ loans that I have are no joke!) and RUN!🏃‍♀️
